Dallmeierelectronic acceptsno liabilityfor damagesresulting fromunauthorized orimproper
modifications to the unit.
Protection against condensation water
If the unit is brought from a cold to a warm environment, condensation water can form
inside the unit. Short-circuits may then lead to damage to the system. Wait up to 8 hours for
the unit to reach room temperature before starting it up.
Observe the rated voltage
The unit can be damaged or destroyed by the application of an incorrect voltage.
The mains voltage must always match the rated voltage of the unit. The rated voltage is
specified on the rating plate of the unit.
Observe ratings
Unsuitable ambientconditionsandimproperinstallation(mainly toohighambient temperature

5.2 Plug-in modules
Except for the I/O module, all other DAS-300 E plug-in modules are hot-pluggable and
redundant. A module can be replaced whilst the DAS-300 E is running.
The DAS-300 E must never be run with empty bays. Therefore, unused bays must be fitted
with dummy modules for continuous operation.
Ensure that you have a replacement module of the same type before removing any fault
module. The DAS-300 E must never be operated with one or more unfitted bays for more
than a few minutes, since this may cause overheating of the DAS-300 E and thus power
failure and data loss.
IMPORTANT
Serious damage to the unit and modules (particularly HDD
failure).
Ensure that all bays of the sub-rack are fitted and closed whilst
in operation.

6 Mounting
The DAS-300 E is designed to be installed and operated in a standard 19" rack in a dust-
controlled server room.
NOTE
The guide rails and chassis slides included in delivery fit into
many but not all 19" racks.
If necessary, contact the rack manufacturer to obtain suitable
rails or load-bearing shelves.
6.1 Safety requirements
Observe the following safety requirements when installing a DAS-300 E:
zThe rack must be secured against tipping over during installation and in normal use.
zThe rack must be filled from the bottom up and emptied from the top down.
zThe rack must have a safe electrical distribution system and an overcurrent protection
for all integrated units. The rack must not be overloaded by the total number of units
installed. Pay attention to the nameplates of each unit.
zThe electrical distribution system must provide a reliable earth for each unit and the
rack.
zEach power supply in each unit has an earth leakage current of 1.5 mA maximum at 264
V AC. The design of the electrical distribution system must take into consideration the
total earth leakage current from all the power supplies in all the units. The rack will
requirelabelling with“HIGH LEAKAGE CURRENT. Earth connection essential before
connecting supply“.
zThe rack when configured with the units must meet the safety requirements of UL60950
and IEC 60950.
6.2 Installation requirements
Observe the following installation requirements when installing a DAS-300 E:
zThe system must be operated with low pressure rear exhaust installation (back pressure
not to exceed 5 pascals, 0.5 mm water gauge).
zThe maximum allowable ambient temperature of 40 °C (104 °F) with two power supply
modules installed must not be exceeded.
zThe rack must have a minimum load-carrying capacity of „number of DAS-303/DAS-
300E x 32kg).
zMinimum installation depth of 70 cm (excludes rear cabling).
zMinimum gap of 25 mm (1 inch) clearance between the DAS-300 E front side and rack
front door.
zMinimum gap of 50 mm (2 inches) clearance between the DAS-300 E rear side and rack
rear door.

DAS-300 E

6.3 Attaching the chassis slides
1. Attach the chassis slides to the DAS-300 E sides using 3 M3x4 screws for each side.
2. Assemble the left and right chassis latches using the special chassis latch screws.
Ensure the latches are correctly orientated. Both spring arms must be located against its
stop.
On the right hand the shorter arm must be at the top, on the left it must be at the bottom.
6.4 Attaching the guide rails
1. If necessary, loosen both clamping screws to change the length of the guide rails before
attaching them.
2. Fit the guide rails into the rack.
3. Attach the guide rails to both front and rear side of the rack using two washers and
screws for each side. The screws should be left loose enough to allow for sideways
movement of the rails.
4. Tighten the two clamping screws.

6.5 Mounting into the rack
IMPORTANT
Danger of injury and damage to the DAS-300 E!
A DAS-300 E can weigh up to 32 kg. It must always be lifted
with adequate lifting facilities or by at least 2 persons.
Donot lifttheDAS-300 Eby thehandlesoftheplug-inmodules.
1. Lift the DAS-300 E and insert the chassis slides into the guide rails.
2. Completely slide the DAS-300 E into the rack.
IMPORTANT
Possible damage to the DAS-300 E and / or rack!
Ensure that you slide it straight. Do not use any force.
3. Tighten the rear screws.
4. Withdraw the DAS-300 E until it reaches the hard stops (approx. 40 cm).
5. Tighten the front screws.
6. Completely slide the DAS-300 E into the rack.
7. Secure the DAS-300 E to the rack using the captive fasteners on the front flanges.

7 Connection
A DAS-303 allows the connection of up to 4 DAS-300E storage expansions units.
DAS-300 E connection
Always pay attention to the following procedure when connecting a DAS-300E:
1. Shut down the recorder.
2. Turn off the recorder.
3. Disconnect the recorder from the power supply (pull out the power plug).
4. Disconnect the DAS-303 from the power supply.
5. Connect the DAS-300 E to the DAS-303 using a SAS patch cable as shown below.
