1. INTRODUCTION
The Active SmartHome Smart Radiator module by Danfoss is a modern alternative to
usual thermostatic radiator valves and allows you to control the temperature of your
entire house or individual radiators using a PC, a smartphone or a tablet connected to
the Internet.
The thermostat includes 3 control buttons and a LCD display which respectively enable
the user to interact directly with the module and to see the selected temperature/state
of module.

In the box - The thermostat is supplied with adapters for Danfoss RA valves and
M30x1.5 (K) metric thread (014G0002), two AA alkaline batteries and a 2 mm Allen key.
Compatibility - The Smart Radiator module by Danfoss is compatible with most
radiators: please see figure 15 (List of thermostatic head’s adapters) in section 3.4.
Before proceeding with the installation, please make sure that your radiator valve is
compatible with the Smart Radiator module and that you have the correct adapter. If
not, contact your customer support.

2. INSTALLATION
The installation of the Smart Radiator consists in three
steps:
1. Pairing the module with the platform Active
SmartHome;
2. Dismounting your old thermostatic head;
3. Mounting the new Smart Radiator module.
If it is your first installation, it makes sense to dismount one thermostatic head
before starting, in order to control the compatibility with the adequate adapter.
Please note that when the head is dismounted, your radiator will continue to
operate.
It is also recommended to first connect the Smart Radiator to the Active
SmartHome platform before mounting it. That way it will be easier to test the
signal strength and distance of connexion to install signal repeaters if needed
without dismounting your Smart Radiator several times.
2.1. Pairing the Smart Radiator module on your Active SmartHome
platform
1. Open your web browser and access your Active SmartHome platform;
2. Log in, then navigate to the Home Control section and go to the Settings sub-
menu;

3. Go to Add Module and choose the Danfoss radiator valve. Click on Continue (Fig.
01);
4. Name the module according to the room it is installed in and select “Heating” as
category. Click on Continue (Fig. 02);

5. Remove the side lid and insert the two provided AA batteries. Please, refer to the
drawings within the thermostatic head to insert the batteries properly. Click on
Continue (Fig. 03 to 05);
6. The letter “M”should flash on the screen. If this is not the case, you will have to
reset the device (to do so, see point 3.3. Factory reset);
7. Push once on the central control button , the letter M should flash quickly on
the LCD display (fig. 06). This means that the module is connecting to the gateway;
click on Continue.

8. Wait a couple of seconds for the learning signal to be sent between the gateway
and the module. When detected, you will hear the gateway beep meaning it has
successfully detected the Smart Radiator module. If the module is not detected, try
getting closer to the gateway or reset the device (please refer to section 3.3.
Factory reset);
9. Please push once on the central control button to confirm the connection.
Note that the letter M will still flash until the mounting is completed. (point 13
below)
10. Click on Continue;
11. Your Smart Radiator is now connected to the Active SmartHome platform. In the
last two steps of the installation wizard, you can optionally add the Smart Radiator
to a room and/or set different temperatures for specific profiles;
12. You can now proceed to the installation as described in section 2.4.
13. After the installation, please hold the central control button until the letter
“M”disappears in order to exit the learning mode and start using it.

2.2. Dismounting your old thermostatic head
Please, do not forget to pair the module with the Active SmartHome platform
before installing your thermostatic head on your radiator.
Dismounting your thermostatic head will depend on its model. The illustrations below
show the steps to dismount the most frequent systems (M30 and RA). In case of trouble,
do not hesitate to contact your customer support.
2.2.1. Thermostatic head with M30x1.5 connection
Follow these steps to remove a thermostatic head with a M30x1.5 connection:
1. Open the thermostatic valve completely (i.e. turn it counter-clockwise to the
max temperature);
2. Slacken the nut right before the thermostatic valve. This can normally be done
by hand and not with a wrench;
3. Pull out the thermostatic head from the valve (Fig. 07).

Follow these steps to remove a thermostatic head with a RA connection:
1.Turn the thermostatic valve completely (to the letter “I”);
2.Turn the base counter-clockwise;
3. Pull out the thermostatic head from the valve (Fig. 08).
2.3. Mounting the new Smart Radiator module
Make sure that the letter “M” is flashing on the display prior to installing. If not, please
hold the central control button for 3 seconds.
For detailed information on how to mount the thermostatic head, please see figure 09.

Start by fitting the thermostat to a tap on a pipe:
1. Screw or insert the corresponding adapter on the valve (see figure 09 for help);
2. Hand-tighten the thermostat onto the adapter;
3. Push and hold the central control button for approximately three seconds to
exit the installation mode and attach the thermostatic head to the valve. The letter
“M”will stop flashing and the display will turn off and on again with the
temperature of 21°C.
The antenna and alarm icons should disappear from the LCD display to confirm that
the Smart Radiator has successfully established a connection with the gateway (Fig. 10). If
you have trouble with the connection, please refer to the section 3.5.

3. OPERATION & SUPPORT
3.1. Operation
The first week after the installation, the Smart Radiator module is in a learning period
where it will optimize its way of operating.
Once mounted, you can change the temperature at any time either directly through the
up/down buttons and/or remotely via the Home Control service of the Active
SmartHome platform.
To optimize the use of the battery, regular communication between thermostat and
gateway is performed at a 5-minutes interval. After having changed the temperature
value on one-end, it may therefore take up to 2 minutes to update the data on the other
end. Moreover, the thermostat’s LCD turns off after a minute in stand-by mode. Press
the central control button to illuminate the screen, and display the temperature
again.

The “low battery”symbol is displayed approximately one month before the
batteries run out. After approximately two weeks, the symbol will flash 14 times from
19:00 to 21:00 hrs. Before the batteries run out, the Smart Radiator will leave the valve
in a slightly open position to protect it from damage.
Rechargeable batteries must not be used.
3.2. Dismount the Smart Radiator
1. Remove the battery cover (Fig. 11);
2. Insert the provided Allen key or similar into the locking hole to lock the adapter
ring (Fig. 12);

3. With the key locking the adapter ring, turn the adapter in the shown direction (Fig.
13);
4. Put back the battery cover (Fig. 14).
3.3. Factory reset
Factory reset may come more than handy if you failed to install a module. The steps to
reset your Smart Radiator are as follows:
1. Remove the batteries;
2. Insert again only one of the two AA batteries;
3. Keep holding the central control button and insert the second battery minding
the polarity. Do not release the button for the next six seconds. When the reset
succeeds, the thermostat vibrates slightly and shows the flashing “M”sign;
4. Continue following the instructions of section 2.1 from step 07 and onwards.

3.4. Compatibility table
There are 6 types of adapters to connect the Smart Radiator properly to your heating
system. You will need to use the adapter corresponding to the manufacturer and
current model of your installed thermostatic heads.
In your package, the RA and the M30 x 1.5 adapters are enclosed. If you need other
connection adapters, please contact your customer support, with information on your
current brand and model.

3.5. Overview of display and control buttons
Use these buttons to navigate within the menu and to adjust the temperature.
Use this button to select the menu and confirm choices.
The Smart Radiator is displaying the set temperature, not the measured room temperature.
3.6. Testing the connection
It can take some time until the connection is established. If after mounting the Smart
Radiator, you see no connection, start by waiting a few hours before making any
changes. If the problem persists, you can test the connection with the following steps
(Fig. 17).

If the connection continues to fail, try to reset the thermostatic head (please refer to point
3.3.) and to pair it again by following the steps 6 to 11 of the section 2.1.
3.7. Adjusting to radiator/room conditions
Press for at least 3 seconds until M is displayed.
Press twice until Pb is displayed, then press .
The default setting is P2.
Use P1 if the radiator appears oversized for the room.
Use P3 if it is undersized*.
Select P1, P2 or P3 using navigations keys and exit using
.
*The frequency of P1, P2, and P3 regulation varies to compensate for radiator over/undersizing .
3.8. Disposal
The thermostat must be disposed of as electronic waste.
