This document aims to describe you the main use of the DTX-200 made by DATEX
D.S.M.
The floppy are no longer manufactured, therefore, users have to get their disks
repaired or replaced by some second hand disks, less reliable. DATA STORAGE, worried
about the everlastingness of these systems, and has developed the DTX-200 in order for
these customers to recover the reliability of their device.
With the floppy emulators, you choose reliability, efficiency and innovation to
replace your old systems floppy disks drives.
Emulators are 100 % compatible with older IT systems and can be replace 'plug-to-plug'
old generation drives. The DTX-200 offers you economies of scale, very low
maintenance costs and consuming costs.
This sheet will give you the basic indications you need to use the DTX-200. The using
steps will be described chronologically.
From plug in to unplugging, from ON to OFF, you will be able to follow the process.
This document will give guide for using the DTX-200. We request you to read closely
this document before using the DTX-200.
This document is not contractual and can be changed
We thank you for choosing the DATEX floppy emulators. For any suggestion,
please not to hesitate to contact us.

Precaution
Make sure you have taken all necessary preliminary safety precautions described
below before using the DTX-200:
The emulator must be ready before beginning any operation.
A “low level” formatting is necessary when using a Compact FLASH card for the first
time on the emulator.
Moreover, the standard Compact FLASH™ is formatted 2HD PC or 2DD.
Rotation speed : 300RPM (200ms)
Same controls
Your system will perform exactly like before if not faster because of the Compact
Flash fast data transferring capabilities.
You can send the same commands as you would have done with an old floppy
drive. The LED "Select" lights permanently on a selection chosen. The LED turns on
and off with on every access and will remain off when there is no access to the CF.
WARNING:
The DTX200 works only with a custom compact flash. Our compact flash
has been specially design to be hot swap. Note that the use of any other compact may
damage the DTX200 permanently. Warranty will not take charge if the DTX200 is damage
when using another compact flash.

How to use the multi-diskettes option
(Depending on the emulator's model you can have from 0-4 to 0-99 volumes)
Press on BP1 to browse volumes from the first to the last one.
A slight pressure on it brings you back on the first volume.
A slight pressure on BP2 validate the selected volume, and soon a decimal point will
appear on the led display (as shown in the figure below) to indicate that the emulator is
now operational.
Keep on pressing on BP2 to browse volumes from the last to the first one.

Backup on the compact flash card
To optimize performance some models do not run automatic backup within every write. To
save your data into the compact flash press on BP2. Your data will then be saved to the
volume you are working on. The LEDs below the display are lit continuously during the
transfer.
If you current emulator do not support automatic back up make sure to press BP2 before
switching it off.
Switch position «WRITE PROTECT»
The switch write protect enables and disable write protection. When the Led write protect
turns on it mean that the write protect protection is activated and if the led write protect is
turn off it means that write protection is disabled.
Red = Write Protect
Switch position «2HD/2DD»
The 2HD/2DD switch is used to switch the emulator drive from Double density or High
density mode. Just like any floppy drives the emulator is able to use both 2HD (1.44Mb) or
2DD (720Ko) depending on the floppy inserted in the drive. The emulator offers the same
options with the flip of a switch. This also allows the user to have on the same Compact
Flash the possibility to have volumes of 2HD and 2DD.

Problems
The LED « seek » will turn on and stay on permanently
In, such case reset the emulator by simply turning it off and on. To turn the DTX-200
off, just simply unplug the power supply from the DTX200
If the emulator does not work after having reset it a few times, please contact us.
For some models of emulator backup are done automatically as you switch off the
emulator, hence preventing any data loss. So you simply just have to turn off the power
supply to turn off the emulator.
If your current emulator do not support automatic backup then make sure to press BP2
before switching it off to save the data on the current volume you are working on to
prevent any data loss.

The emulator above is in the basic configuration when delivered by DATEX:
The « drive select » jumper is at address 1.
It is equipped with terminators.
If your machine just uses one DTX, this one must be in this configuration.
Nevertheless, if your controller uses more than one drives (drive chain), you have to
take some precautions.

Drives chains
If you use a drive chain, you must pay attention to some parameters:
The drive addresses :
The drive called « Master » (it is drive or emulator) must be at the address 1
(drive select 1).
The addresses of the other drive shave to be configured. There are some solutions to this
end. It depends on cables you use to link your disks.
Cross cables :
You do not have to modify the disks addresses if you use cross cables to link your
disks. Using cross cables resolves addressing problems.

You can plug your disks in each connector:
Patch cables :
You have to modify the disks addresses if you use patch cables.
The disk « Master » must be at address 0, the next one at address 1.
Change the DTX-200 address
You just have to place the jumper on the address you want to change the DTX-200
address. Please refer at the illustration 14, page 15 to know the available addresses.
EXAMPLE:
If you want the DTX-200 at address 0 you just have to put the jumper, as
shown in the picture below:

Terminators :
Only a disk (or emulator) must be equipped with terminators in a daisy chain.
You must remove it from the disks and leave it just on one disk.
Remove the terminators :
You just have to pull up the terminators to remove it from the card:
WARNING:
-
When you remove a component from the card, you must take care to pull it
straight up to avoid breaking pins.
- When you remove terminators, take care of their direction.
If you want to replace them on the card, they will have to be on the direction they were
when you removed them.
The pin 1 is towards the end of the termination, opposite of the supply.
