WELCOME
Welcome, and thank you for choosing an AcomData product. This guide covers all Samurai/
Samurai PRO models. When following the setup instructions, look for the instructions that
best pertain to your model and situation.

PRECAUTIONS
Please follow the precautions listed below. Not doing so could result in damage to the
device and voiding of the warranty.
We strongly recommend you backup your data. AcomData is not responsible for data loss•
or corruption; nor will AcomData perform data recovery.
Do not expose the device to damp or wet conditions.•
Never place containers of liquids on the device. This can damage the device and increase the•
risk of electric shock, short-circuiting, fire, or personal injury.
Do not expose this device to temperatures outside the range of 5°C to 35°C when the•
device is in operation, and -20ºC to 60ºC when not in operation.
Do not bump, jar or drop the device.•
Do not try to stand the device in a way not described in this guide.•
Do not disconnect any cables while the device is mounted to an operating system.•
Do not use more than one interface (e.g. USB 2.0, eSATA, FireWire) at a time.•
Do not connect the Drive to more than one computer at a time.•
Data cables can only be plugged in one way. Be sure to orient them correctly.•
You can use both FireWire and FireWire 800 ports (if so equipped) simultaneously—one•
port to connect the Drive to your computer; the other port to connect to another FireWire
device. However, do NOT connect a bus-powered FireWire device to the Drive.
For bus-powered USB connections, do not plug the USB cable into a keyboard port or a•
hub that does not have its own power supply.

CONNECTING THE DRIVE TO YOUR COMPUTER
This section covers the various connection options for all Samurai models. The connection
options are differentiated by the interface used, not by model. On the following pages you
can find the connection option that pertains to your particular situation.
When considering a connection option, please note: the following items are not supplied:

Many laptops are equipped with
4-pin FireWire ports. However,
4-pin FireWire ports do not supply
power. In this case, the FireWire

CONNECTING WITH AN ESATA CABLE AND
THE USB CABLE
eSATA ports do not supply power. If con-
necting the Drive via eSATA, you must also
connect the USB cable. The eSATA port will
transfer the data; the USB port will supply
the power.

VERIFY THAT THE DRIVE MOUNTS TO YOUR SYSTEM
Windows users:
A few moments after you connect the Drive, it should mount and a new drive icon/letter
will appear in My Computer.
Mac Users:
A few moments after you connect the Drive, it should mount and a new drive icon will
appear on the Desktop/Finder.
WHAT TO DO IF THE DRIVE IS NOT DETECTED
If the Drive won't mount to your operating system, most likely it is not receiving sufficient
current to fully power up. Insufficient power would only be an issue if you are using USB to
power the Drive. You can augment power with a second USB port.
Using a second USB port to augment power:
Unplug the mini-USB connector from the Drive.1.
Plug the secondary USB type A connector into a second USB port on your computer or self-2.
powered hub.
It does not matter if the second port is USB 2.0 or USB 1.1.
Plug the mini-USB connector into the Drive's mini-USB port.3.

ACPOWERED OPERATION
If your Samurai is equipped with a DC power port,
you can use the optional AC adapter to power the Drive. This
option is particularly useful for conserving laptop battery power.

HOW TO UNMOUNT & DISCONNECT THE DRIVE
Windows Users
In the Windows Taskbar, click the Safely Remove icon.1.
In the Safely Remove pop-up menu, select the Drive. After the Drive unmounts, Windows will2.
display a message that it is safe to remove the device. You can then safely unplug the cable(s).
Mac users
Drag the Drive's icon to the Trash. After the icon disappears from the Desktop you can safely unplug
the cable(s).
ATTENTION eSATA USERS PC & MAC:
If your Drive is connected via eSATA, you must turn off your computer before disconnecting
the Drive.

OBTAINING WARRANTY SERVICE
What you need to obtain warranty service:
A copy of the bill of sale for your AcomData product;1.
A Returned Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number that is assigned to your product2.
by an AcomData Tech Support Specialist. An RMA can only be generated if the product
has been registered online at www.acomdata.com. You must register the product online
or your TSS can register it for you. Your TSS will then walk you through the process to
ensure you receive prompt service.
