7. Click the"Download"buttonon theEm50G toolbarto retrieve
yourdatafromtheDecagon DataService.
8. Afterasuccessfuldownload,theEm50GDownloaderwill
automaticallylaunch DataTrac.If youdo nothaveDataTrac,a*.dxd
fileof yourdata willbe storedin adefaultlocationof
“MyDocuments/ECHODataTrac/AutoImport”.
9. In DataTrac, thenewlogger willshow upasa newdevice that
requiresconfiguration.Selecttheloggerandchoose“Configure”from
thetoolbar. Setthelocationinformationifdesired,thenpress“OK”.
Downloading Data Subsequent Times
1. Start“Em50G Downloader”.Allof theloggersthatyouhave
setup inthe previousstepswillshowupinalist.
2. The Em50Gloggersthat youhave subscribedtoare checked
bydefault.Ifyoudo notwanttodownloaddata fromspecific
subscribedEm50G dataloggers,uncheck thebox besidetheloggers
beforepressing“download”.
3. Press “Download”todownload newdatastored inthe
DecagonData Servicesincethelastdownload.Afterasuccessful
download,theEm50GDownloaderwilllaunchDataTrac.DataTracwill
automaticallyprocess anddisplay thenewlydownloadeddata.

Introduction
Thankyou forpurchasinganEm50Gdata logger.TheEm50Gisadata
collectiondevice thatwill allowyou tocollect andstore datafrom uptofive
Decagonsensors.Collected data areuploadedto theDecagonData Service
usingcellularcommunicationtechnologyuptosixtimes aday.Youcanaccess
yourlogger’sdatafrom theDecagon DataServiceatanytime.The Em50Gis
configuredusingECH2OUtility.Datafrom theEm50Gcanbeviewedusing
DataTrac.
Em50G Logger Configuration
ECH2OUtility isused toconfigure theEm50G datalogger.Pleasedownload
themost uptodateversionof ECH2OUtility fromtheDecagonwebsite
(www.decagon.com) BEFOREyou tryto configureyourEm50G.
1. Takethe brightlycolored cardcontaining yourDevice IDand putitina
safeplace.You willneedthis numberand passwordtodownload yourdata
fromthe Decagonserver.
2. ToconfiguretheEm50G,directlyconnect totheEm50Gloggerusing
theincludedUSBcableand initiateECH2OUtility.
3. Choose thesensorplugged intoeachport.
4. Pickyourmeasurementinterval.Availablemeasurementintervalsare
fromfiveminutestooneday.
5. Click“Apply”.
Communication Configuration
6. ToconfigurethecellularmoduleintheEm50G,clickthe“Configure”
buttoninthe“CommunicationOption”section.TheEm50Gusesthecellular
networktotransfermeasurementdata when“Uploaddatato
ECH2OData.com”boxis checked.The Em50Gisuploading datatothe
DecagonData Service(“on”) bydefault.
7. Chooseupto sixuploadtimes. Defaultupload times are:6-7 AM,
10-11 AM, 1-2 PM, 4-5PM. To conserve battery power, choose fewer
upload times.

8. Click“OK”aftermakingconfigurationchanges.Click“Apply”to
savecommunicationsettingsinyourEm50G.Yourcurrentsettingswillshow
upinthecommunicationsoptionfield.
9. CommunicationTest:Checkthequalityofthecellular
communicationbyclickingthe“Test”button.Thetest takesapproximately
30-60seconds whilethe Em50Gestablishesaconnectionwiththecellular
networkand theDecagonDataService.Once thetesting isfinished, the
“ConnectionQuality”fieldreportsconnectionquality.Aftertheinitialtest,
youcan clickthe testbutton againto updatethe statusofthecellularsignal
strengthand connectiontotheDataService. Clickthe “Close”buttononce
you’veevaluatedthecellularcoverageatyour location.
Installing The Em50G
1. PerformaCommunicationTesttoconfirmthat thereisgoodcellular
coverageat yoursite. Ifcellular coverageis low,trymovingafewmeters
awayandtryingtheCommunicationTestagain.
2. Attach theEm50G inanupright positionto afirm postorPVC
pipe,usingthefiveziptiesorsimilarfasteners.
Test Buttons
TheEm50G loggerhas aTESTbuttonandtwoindicatorlightsabovethe
batteriesfor basicfunctionalitytesting.Whenyou presstheTESTbutton,
thelogger performsseveral checkson internalsystems andattempts a
communicationsessionoverthecellular network.Theloggerusesthe status
lightsduringthetestasfollows:
• Both the“OK”(green)and“ERROR” (red)lightsblinkslowly
whiletheEm50Gisperforming thetests.Please bepatient. Itcantake as
muchas 60secondsormoretofinishthe cellularcommunicationtests.
• The “OK”(green)light pulseswhentheEm50Gisactivelysending
dataover thecellularnetwork.
• A solid“OK” (green)light indicatestheinternaltestspassedand
therewassuccessfulcommunicationoverthecellularnetworktothe
DecagonData Service.The Em50Gleaves thelightonfor approximately
20 seconds.
• A solid“ERROR” (red)lightindicatesanerrorinthe loggeror
incommunicating tothe DecagonDataService.Pleaseusethe
CommunicationTest featureinECH2OUtilitytofindthespecific error.
Downloading Data
Downloading Data For The First Time
TheEm50Gsends allofyour datatothe DecagonDataService, where
thedataare stored. You will needbothDataTracand theEm50G
Downloadersoftwareto downloaddata from theData Service.Please
downloadthemost uptodate versionsofboth softwarepackagesfrom
theDecagon website(www.decagon.com)BEFORE tryingto
downloaddatafromourserver.
1. Start theEm50G Downloaderand setthe userconfiguration
informationifthis isyourfirsttimeusingthesoftwarepackage.
2. Click the“Add”button toadda newsubscription (a
subscriptionis requiredfor eachEm50G).
3. Youwillbe asked forthe Device IDandpassword foreach
Em50Gdatalogger thatyou subscribeto.Enter theDevice IDand
passwordexactlyas theyappear onyourbrightly coloredcardthat
cameinsideof your datalogger. Both theIDand passwordarecase
sensitive.
4. Pick theappropriateserver where yourdataare stored. Unless
Decagonhastold youotherwise,your dataarebeing storedonthe
“ech2odata.com”server.
5. Pick theamount ofdata youwant toinclude inthe first
download.If thisisthefirsttimeyouare downloadingdatafromthis
logger,youshouldchoosethe“AllDataPoints”option.If youare only
interestedindownloading datauploaded overthelast dayorlastweek,
choose“Last Day”or“LastWeek”respectively.
6. Click“OK”.TheEm50GDownloaderwill communicatewith
theDecagon DataServicetoverifytheinformationyou’ve entered.
