1 Important safety and environmental instructions
This section contains safety instruc-
tions to prevent hazards that can
result in injury or property damage.
Any warranty is void if these instruc-
tions are not followed.
1.1 General safety
•This appliance complies with in-
ternational safety standards.
•This appliance is intended for
home use and food preparation
only, it is not suitable for profes-
sional use.

for use by persons (including
children) with reduced
physical, sensory or mental
capabilities or lack of
experience and knowledge
unless they have been given
supervision or instruction
concerning the use of the dryer
by a person responsible for
their safety.
•Children should be supervised
to ensure that they do not play

•Cleaning and user maintenance
should not be done bychildren
unless they are under the su-
pervision of adults.
•Keep the product and the prod-

•Do not block the air inlet and air
outlet openings while the appli-
ance is operating.

ance is in use. Hot air rises from
the appliance during use!
•The appliance becomes hot
during use. To avoid the risk
of burns, do not touch hot sur-
faces.
•Make sure that the room is ad-
equately ventilated during use.
•In case of fire, unplug the ap-
pliance.
•Do not pour water on the appli-
ance, as it may cause electric

•Do not operate the appliance
with an external timer or a sep-
arate remote control system.
•Only use metal kitchenware with
insulated handles with the ap-
pliance.

pliance while it is operating or

1.1 Compliance with the WEEE
Directive and Disposing of the Waste
Product:
This product complies with EU WEEE Directive
(2012/19/EU). This product bears a classification
symbol for waste electrical and electronic equip-
ment (WEEE).
This symbol indicates that this product
shall not be disposed with other house-
hold wastes at the end of its service
life. Used device must be returned to
offical collection point for recycling of
electrical and electronic devices. To find these col-
lection systems please contact to your local au-
thorities or retailer where the product was pu-
chased. Each household performs important role
in recovering and recycling of old appliance.
Appropriate disposal of used appliance helps pre-
vent potential negative consequences for the envi-
ronment and human health.

1.2 Compliance with RoHS Directive
The product you have purchased complies with EU
RoHS Directive (2011/65/EU). It does not contain
harmful and prohibited materials specified in the
Directive.
1.3 Packaging information
The product's packaging is made of
recyclable materials, in accordance
with the National Legislation. Do not
dispose of the packaging waste with
the household waste or other wastes, dispose it to
the packaging collection areas specified by local
authorities.
1.4 Important points for saving
energy
Comply with the times recommended by the
manual while using the appliance. Unplug the
appliance after each use.

3 Operation
3 Intended use
•The appliance is intended for home use only, it is not suitable for professional use.
•The appliance may emit some smoke when you use it for the first time. This is normal.
3.1 Preparing the appliance for use
•Use the appliance in an upright position on a stable, flat, clean, dry and non-slip surface.

Before using the appliance for the first
time, remove the packaging materials
and place the appliance in a flat and
clean area.
Grab the handle (4) firmly to release
the removable cooking basket (5); then,
take the drawer out of its housing.
To release the basket from the drawer,
place the drawer on a flat surface.
Slide the protection cover (2), press
the basket release button (3) and
raise the basket from the drawer and
remove it.

Clean the removable cooking basket (6)
and the basket drawer (5) with warm
soapy water and then, dry thoroughly
outer surface of the appliance and the
parts you just washed.
There are 2notches on both sides
of the handle. Seat the basket in its
housing by aligning the tabs into the
notches on the top of the basket drawer.
Attach the drawer to the appliance
after cleaning all parts. Your appliance
is ready for use.
•Set the appliance at the highest temperature for first use and operate it for 10 minutes without
any food therein.
•Do not use the basket drawer (6) without the removable cooking basket (5) therein.

•When “L (Low)” is shown on the display, it means that the appliance is at low
temperatures and not hot yet.
•When the pre-heating process is completed, “ADD” warning appears on the display and
place ingredients in the cooking basket and put it back in the appliance.
•When “H (High)” appears on the display, it means that the cooking process is completed,
and take the cooking basket out of the appliance.
•Display shuts down, when the cooking basket is taken out of the appliance. Appliance
resumes, when the cooking basket is put back.
•Press “Menu ” symbol until finding the desired program to select a program.When the
desired program is found, the light of the program will blink, press “Start ” symbol to
start the program.

3.3 Warnings before first use
While the appliance is operating and
when the removable cooking basket (5)
is pulled back, hot gases will be emitted
from its air outlet (7) and the upper por-
tion of the basket. Therefore, be careful
to avoid burns resulting from highly hot
gases.
While using the cooking basket (5) and
basket drawer (6) at higher tempera-
tures, be careful not to make a direct
contact with them.
Press the basket release button (3),
only when the basket is placed on a
horizontal table. Pressing the basket
release button (3) with an improper
placement causes the basket drawer
(6) to fall down.
3.4 Operation
3.4.1 Temperature and time setting

Press symbol to set the temperature
and time. Afterwards, press sym-
bol to set the necessary temperature and
time. Press symbol to start.
When the temperature set is reached
up, the warning “ADD” will appear on the
display and take the cooking basket (5)
out and place ingredients in the basket
and then put it back in the appliance.
When completing half of the set time
of the program, the appliance bleeps
three times, the basket drawer (6) may
be removed at this point and you can
flip food by means of a tool (tongs etc.)
The appliance has a 12 minutes of
shut-down memory and next stage of
the heating process proceeds, when
the basket drawer (6) is pushed back
in the appliance. Afterwards, the dis-
play shows the remaining time.

•Silicone in the cooking basket is resistant to high temperatures and produced from
a material that does not cause any harm, when used along with food. It fundamentally
prevents the basket coating from being scratched. Therefore, be sure that it is not removed
while cooking food.
•Be aware of hot steam that may be outlet while pulling the basket drawer (6) out and
do not touch with your bare hands, because it is highly hot.
•Use an auxiliary tool (tongs etc.) that would cause no damage on the interior surface of the
appliance to take out the cooked foods.
3.4.2 Program selection and start
When the cooking program is selected on menu, “Temperature/time” setting will be automatically performed.
Cooking temperature and time can be optionally re-set by pressing “Temperature/Time Resetting” symbol.
If you would like to move on another program in the appliance, keep pressing “Start/Stop ”
symbol for 3 seconds. Afterwards, press “Menu ” to select the desired program.

“Menu ” symbol repeatedly until find-
ing the desired program to select a pro-
gram. When the desired program is
found, the light of the program will blink,
press “Start ” symbol to start the pro-
gram.
Press “Start/Stop ” symbol to start
pre-heating of the appliance. Display
shows “ON” message.
Appliance bleeps when the pre-heat-
ing is completed and the display
shows “ADD”.

3.5. Cooking
•Blend food with oil before placing it in the removable cooking basket (5).
Do not grab directly the basket drawer (6) and the removable cooking basket (5) while hot,
but grab the handle.

Grab firmly the handle of the removable
cooking basket (5) to open up the basket
drawer (6); then, take the drawer out of
the appliance and position on a flat and
clean surface.
Place foods in the removable cook-
ing basket (7). Then attach the basket
to the appliance and make sure it fits
completely.
Plug your appliance in and select the
desired cooking program. Then, start
the cooking process.

Warning sound will be heard when the
set time is up and your appliance turns
off automatically. Display shows “H
(High)” message, when the cooking pro-
gram is completed. This expression indi-
cates that the food program is finished.
Take the removable cooking basket (5)
out and check the food, whether it is
fried or frozen or not. If it requires addi-
tional cooking time, you can prolong the
cooking time a little bit more.
After the process is completed, pour
the ingredients in the basket into a
bowl or plate. Since the hot or drib-
bling oil may be accumulated in the
lower portion of the removable cook-
ing basket (5), do not forget to take the
basket with ingredients out of the bas-
ket drawer before serving the food.

To ensure that the cooking/frying process is uniform, remove and shake the basket drawer
carefully and check it, if necessary. If necessary, adjust the temperature.
When shaking food, make sure the basket is in the locked position. Do not press the basket
release button (3) while stirring ingredients in the removable cooking basket (5).
•Let foods rest for 5 to 10 seconds before taking them out of the removable cooking basket
(5).
•Use tongs to take large or soft foods out of the basket not to cause any damage on the
interior surface of the appliance.
•When a batch of food is ready, the product is instantly ready for another batch.
•Perform the preparations after taking the removable cooking basket (5) out of the
appliance, if necessary. Place the removable cooking basket (5) on a table mat after
taking it out of the appliance.
Note that the appliance may be very hot during the removal.
Avoid contact of the cooking basket with the outer surface of the
appliance, since surface of the cooking basket (5) will be hot during
and after cooking.

The table below gives an overview of cooking times for different foods. Cooking time varies based on
thickness and texture of foods. Consider the recommended time and amounts as approximate values.
Perform a pre-heating process until the appliance reaches up to the recommended temperature spec-
ified in the table before cooking process to achieve successful results.

5 Cleaning and maintenance
5.1 Cleaning
Never use gasoline, solvent, abrasive cleaners, metal objects or hard brushes to clean the
appliance.
Turn the appliance off and unplug it. Wait for the appliance to completely
cool down.
Take the removable cooking basket
(5) out of the drawer.
Take the removable cooking basket (5) and basket drawer (6) to cool your appliance down faster.

raise and pull up the handle (4) upwards
and take the removable cooking basket
(5) out.
Clean the removable cooking basket (5)
and basket drawer (6) with warm soapy
water and afterwards, dry thoroughly.
Use a damp cloth to clean the outer
surface of the appliance. Dry the out-
side of the appliance completely.
Keep the base and drawer of the removable (6) cooking basket (5) always clean to avoid
foreign substance accumulation.

5 Cleaning and maintenance
5.2 Storage
•If you do not intend to use the device for a long time, store it carefully.
•Unplug the appliance and allow it to cool before storing it.
•Store the appliance in a cool dry place.
•Store the appliance and its cord out of the reach of children.
5.3 Transportation and shipping
•During transportation and shipping, carry the appliance with its original packaging. The packaging of
the appliance will protect the appliance against physical damage.
•Do not put heavy objects on the appliance or its package. The appliance may get damaged.
•If the appliance is dropped, the appliance may not operate or permanent damage may occur.

Warranty
This certificate is issued by DEFY APPLIANCES (PTY) LIMITED manufacturers of Defy and Ocean products,
hereinafter the Company, to the original purchaser only, of the appliance described on the certificate and
shall constitute the only warranty given in respect of this appliance.
The Company warrants to the original purchaser that for a period of ONE YEAR from date of purchase the
appliance is free from defect under normal domestic use, both in workmanship and material, subject to
the following conditions.
1. Repair or replacement of any part of this appliance, found by the Company to be defective, shall be at the
election of the Company. The Company reserves the right to effect such service through any of its Service
Divisions or Authorised Service Dealers. The cost of such service shall be borne by the Company in full,
provided that the appliance is located no further than 50km from a Company Service Centre or an
Authorised Service Dealer. Where the appliance is located beyond the 50km radius, the purchaser shall be
liable for the standard travelling charges, as determined by the Company.
2. Vitreous enamelware, fuses and lamps are specifically excluded from these warranties. It is an express
condition of these warranties that the purchaser takes due care and attention in the use and maintenance of
the appliance. Abuse, misuse in conflict with operating instructions, connection to incorrect voltages and
subjection to commercial use shall release the Company from its obligations.
3. This warranty shall become void and cease to operate if the appliance is dismantled by, or any repairs to
the appliance are effected by any persons not duly authorised by the Company, or if substitute parts not
approved by the Company are used in the appliance, or if the serial number of the appliance is removed.
4. The Company shall not be responsible for damages resulting from fire, flood, civil disturbances or any Act
of God. The Company shall not, in terms of these warranties be responsible nor held liable for any
consequential loss or damage of any kind caused by or due to the failure or malfunction of the appliance.
The Company shall not be responsible for damages caused by insect and/or animal infestation.
5. The Company shall not be responsible for transportation or other costs other than those incurred within the
provisions of Point 1 of this Certificate.
6. For warranties in the Republic of South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa, please contact the customer care
line. Please refer to the previous page for South African and Sub-Saharan African contact details.
7. Where service is requested under warranty and no fault or defect can be found by the Company, all costs
incurred will be for the purchaser's account.
8. This Certificate as well as your invoice will serve as proof of purchase. For the purpose of warranty, it will
be essential to produce this Certificate and invoice. Failure to do so, will render the purchaser liable for
service costs.
KEEP THIS CERTIFICATE AND SALES INVOICE AS PROOF OF PURCHASE FOR WARRANTY PURPOSES.
