THIS PORTION OF THE MANUAL CONTAINS IMPORTANT SAfETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR
THE OPTIMATE 4 BATTERY CHARGER. IT IS OF THE UTMOST IMPORTANCE THAT
EACH TIME, BEFORE USING THE CHARGER, YOU READ AND EXACTlY FOLLOW THESE
INSTRUCTIONS. SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS.
AUTOMATIC CHARGER FOR 12V LEAD-ACID BATTERIES
DO NOT USE FOR NiCd, NiMH, LHon OR NON-RECHARGEABLE BATIERIES.
1. CAUTION. CLASS II APPLIANCE. DO NOT CONNECT TO GROUND .
2. For indoor use only . Do not expose charger to rain or snow .
3. Use of an attachment not recommended or sold by the battery charge r manuf acrure r may resu~ in a risk of fire, electric s hock,or injury to
persons.
4. To reduce risk 01 damage to electric plug and cord ,p ull by plug rather than cord when disconnecting charge r.
5. An extension cord should not be used unless absolutely necessary. Use of imp ro per extension cord COu ld resuH
in a risk of fire and electric shock .lf extension cord must be used make sure that.
a) pins on pl ug of extension cord are the same number, size and s hape as those of plug on cha rge r.
b) th e extension cord is property wired and in good electrical condition,and
c) the conductor wi re size is l arge enough for the AC ampere rating of the charger as speci fied in the table below .

6. Do not operate charger with damaged cord or plug - replace the cord or plug immediately .

b) To reduce risk of battery explosion,lollow these instructions and those published by t he battery manufacturer
and manufa c rurer of any equipment you intend to use in vicinity of the battery. Review ca uti onary marking on
thes ep roducts and on en gine .
11. PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS.
a) Someone should be with in ran ge of your voice OR cl ose enough to come to your aid when you work near a lead-ac id battery
b) Have plenty of fresh water and soap nearby in case battery acid contacts skin, cl ot hing or eyes.
c)W ear complete eye protection and clothing protec ti on. Avoid touching eyes wh ile working near battery .

attent i on i mm ediately . If battery acid co n tacts skin or cl oth ing, wash immediately with soap and water. If acid enter s
an eye, immediately flood eye with running cold water for at least 10 minut es and ge t medical attention i mmediately .
e) NEV ER smoke or allow a spark or flame in vicinity of battery or engine.
n Be extra cau tious to redu ce ri sk of dropping a metal tool o nto battery . It might spark or short-circuit battery or other electr i ca l part
that may cause explosion.
g) Remove personal metal items such as rings, brace l ets ,necklaces, and watches wh en working with a lead-acid
battery. A lead-acid battery can produce a short-circu it current high enough to we ld a rin g or the li ke to metal ,
causing a severe bu rn .
i) NEVE R charge a frozen battery.
