Overview and use of the device
1. 6.35 mm TS jack input, 50 kilohm impedance
2. 6.35 mm TS jack link output (parallel), 50 kilohm impedance
3. balanced 3-pin XLR output, microphone signal level
4. ground lift s itch
5. attenuator (-0 dB, -20 dB, -40 dB)
Use of the device
The Devine DI-P is a passive DI box, used to transform unbalanced high impedance audio signals to
balanced audio signals. This makes the signal more suitable to travel long distances to mixing consoles or
audio interfaces. By doing this, the chance of audio disturbance and un anted noise is decreased
significantly.
The Devine DI-P is a passive unit and requires no additional po er source. DI boxes come in several
varieties, for example po ered by a 9 Volt DC battery, or by an additional po er adapter. The DI-P uses
passive internal electronics and components to transfer any unbalanced signal to a balanced signal.
The DI-P is equipped ith a 6.35 mm TS jack input ith 50 kilohm impedance, suitable for devices such as
electric guitars, (mono) keyboard signals, etc.
A parallel output is available to transfer the signal to other equipment. For example, if you ish to connect a
keyboard but mean hile also use a stage monitor, the link output could be sent directly to a stage monitor for
the keyboard player.
The various signal sources, such as guitars or keyboards, also feature other signal impedances. To
compensate for the different input impedances, an attenuator is provided hich can decrease the incoming
signal. Choose bet een an attenuation of –0 dB, -20 dB or -40 dB.
When connecting the balanced output to your mixing console, audio interface or other processing equipment,
you ill almost instantly see hich attenuation orks best.

Devine recommends to start ith -40 dB attenuation. This ay, you ill start ith the least po erful volume
level possible and you can see on your mixing console if the signal is strong enough. If not, you can s itch
the attenuation to -20 dB and see if the signal is strong enough, but not overpo ering the inputs on your
processing equipment. If this attenuation also on't provide adequate signal levels, the -0 dB attenuation can
be chosen.
Some equipment, such as the po er adapters from keyboards, link-connected amplifiers or the pickups of
electric guitars, can cause un anted noise and hums. To eliminate these problems, a ground lift is available.
The ground lift disconnects the connection bet een the ground of the balanced signal, the housing and the
ground of the incoming and outgoing input/link signals. If no audio-problems are present, the ground
connection does not need to be lifted.
The balanced output sends out a balanced microphone level signal, suitable for connecting to the
microphone inputs of a PA-mixer, audio interface or other equipment provided ith microphone preamp
circuits.
