Safety Precautions
The following safety precautions must be followed whenever
any type of connection is being made to the instrument.
■■Connect the green safety (earth) ground first, before making
any other connections.
■■When connecting to electric circuits or pulse initiating
equipment, open their related breakers. DO NOT install
any connection of the instrument on live power lines.
■■Connections must be made to the instrument first, then con-
nect to the circuit to be monitored.
■■Wear proper Personal Protective Equipment, including safe-
ty glasses and insulated gloves when making connections to
power circuits.
■■Hands, shoes and floor must be dry when making any con-
nection to a power line.
■■Make sure the unit is turned OFF before connecting probes
to the rear panel.
■■Before each use, inspect all cables for breaks or cracks in
the insulation. Replace immediately if defective.
anteojos y guantes protectores.
Sicherheitsvorkehrungen
Die folgenden Sicherheitsvorkehrungen sind immer dann zu
befolgen, wenn eine Verbindung zum Instrument hergestellt
wird.
■■Schließen Sie zuerst die grüne Sicherheits-/Erdleitung an,
bevor Sie eine andere Verbindung herstellen.
■■Öffnen Sie beim Anschluß an elektrische Stromkreise oder
Impulsauslösungseinrichtungen die entsprechenden
Unterbrecher.
Wechseln Sie schadhafte Kabel
sofort aus.

EPQ DataNode Series User’s Guide
Welcome to the EPQ DataNode Series
Congratulations on your purchase of the EPQ DataNode
Series.
The EPQ DataNodes serve as power quality and energy
data and information gathering devices, connected to the
InfoNode via Ethernet. By logging into the InfoNode
from any PC having Internet access (or access to the net-
work in which the system operates) or via modem, users
can obtain extensive monitoring data, information and
answers from all the connected DataNodes. The user
interface is a conventional Internet browser, with access
restricted only to those users with the correct password.
No additional software is required on the user’s PC.
More DataNodes can be added at any time, increasing
the size and capabilities of the monitoring network. The
individual capabilities and features of each different type
of DataNode are covered in their own separate user’s
guides.
Please read this and all user’s guides carefully to obtain
the greatest value from your power monitoring equip-
ment and to avoid damage and injury that can occur from
misuse and improper connection.

EPQ DataNode Series Overview
The EPQ DataNode Series
DataNode Description
The Signature System consists of one or more DataNodes
(the data acquisition modules) connected to an InfoNode
(the data storage, analysis module and web server). See
Chapter 5, Specifications for a detailed description of the
DataNode hardware.
The InfoNode provides the user interface through a self-
contained web server. See the Series 5500 InfoNode
User’s Guide (P/N UG-INODE5500) for additional infor-
mation and instructions.
The following two items are included with the EPQ
DataNode Series as standard accessories:
Power cord P/N 900744 (USA only)
P/N 115369-G1 (Euro only)
P/N 115368-G2 (UK only)
User’s Guide P/N UG-DNODE5500
A variety of optional equipment is available. See Chapter
4, Optional Equipment for details.
Measurement Capabilities
The Enhanced Power Quality (EPQ) family of
DataNodes is available in various model types: Model
5530, Model 5520, Model 5513 and Model 5510.
The EPQ DataNode models are designed with compre-
hensive and PQ-optimized data acquisition capabilities
for power quality related disturbances or events. The trig-
ger and capture mechanisms include RMS variations,
peak transients, waveshapes, steady-state parameter lim-
its, sensitivity changes, harmonics and more. From
microsecond transients on voltage and current to cold
load pick-up after a sustained interruption, the EPQ
DataNode will provide the data and information needed
to help determine the cause and severity of the event. In
addition, the EPQ DataNodes can be set up to collect and
trend and trigger on values from a list of hundreds of
parameters, including power and energy related parame-
ters. See Chapter 5, Specifications, for theory of opera-
tion and detailed hardware description.
EPQ DataNodes are available in a wide variety of func-
tions and configurations. The chart next page details the
similarities and differences between the various EPQ
DataNode model types.
