Intended Use
Assembly
Inserting/changing the batteries
It is recommended that you use alkaline batteries to operate the measuring
tool.
– Insert the batteries (see figure 1). When inserting the batteries, ensure that
the polarity is correct according to the illustration on the inside of the bat-
tery compartment.
The battery warning (h) is shown on the display when the battery voltage
is weakening.
When the battery symbol first appears on the display, measurements can
be made for approx. another 15 minutes.
When the battery symbol flashes, you have to replace the batteries because
measurements are no longer possible.
Always replace all batteries at the same time. Only use batteries from
one brand and with identical capacity.
Remove the batteries from the laser measure when not using it for ex-
tended periods. When storing for extended periods, the batteries can cor-
rode and discharge themselves.
uDo not use lithium-ion batteries. This may result in damage to the
measuring tool.

Do not leave the switched-on laser measure un-
attended and switch the laser measure off after
use. Other persons could be blinded by the laser beam.
Protect the laser measure against moisture and direct sun light.
Do not subject the laser measure to extreme temperatures or varia-
tions in temperature. As an example, do not leave it in vehicles for a long
time. In case of large variations in temperature, allow the laser measure to
adjust to the ambient temperature before putting it into operation. In case
of extreme temperatures or variations in temperature, the accuracy of the
laser measure can be impaired.
Avoid heavy impact to or falling down of the laser measure. After severe
exterior effects to the laser measure, it is recommended to carry out an ac-
curacy check (see “Accuracy Check of the Distance Measurement”, page
15) each time before continuing to work.
Switching the aser Measure on/off

15
The measurements are taken at the center of the laser beam, even when
the laser is pointed at surfaces diagonally.
In order to get an accurate measurement, the laser measure must not be
moved while taking a measurement. Therefore, place the laser measure,
as much as possible, against or on a firm stop or supporting surface. To
record the current measurement value on the display, press the measuring
button (1) (see also "Measuring Length" on page 14).
Effects to the Measuring Range
The measuring range depends on the light conditions and the reflection
properties of the target surface.
Effects to the Measuring Result
Due to physical effects, faulty measurements cannot be excluded when
measuring on different surfaces which include:
– Transparent surfaces (e.g., glass, water),
– Reflecting surfaces (e.g., polished metal, glass),
– Porous surfaces (e.g. insulation materials),
– Structured surfaces (e.g., roughcast, natural stone).
Also, air layers with varying temperatures or indirectly received reflections
can affect the measured value.
Accuracy Check of the Distance Measurement
The accuracy of the distance measurement can be checked as follows:
– Select a permanent measuring section with a length of approx. 3 ft to
33 ft (1 m to 10 m); its length must be precisely known (e.g. the width
of a room or a door opening). The measuring distance must be indoors;
the target surface for the measurement must be smooth and reflect well.
– Measure the distance 10 times after another.
The deviation of the individual measurements from the mean value must
not exceed ±1/8” (±3.0mm). Log the measurements, so that you can com-
pare their accuracy at a later point of time.
To Attach Adapter (see figure 1): Attach the adapter to the laser measure
so that it clicks into place.
To Remove Adapter:Press the release buttons (9) and take off the adapter.
Operation - Fitting the Adapter

16
– Switch on the measuring tool (see "Switching the laser measure on/off",
page 12).
uOnly use the tape adapter on clean and dust-free surfaces to avoid
measurement inaccuracies.
Measuring length (see figures 6−7)
After the measuring tool has been switched on, the tape extension is meas-
ured continuously. The current measured value (a) is shown on the bottom
line of the display. During continuous measurement, the length of the tape
can be adjusted, and the current measured value (a) is updated on the bot-
tom line of the display.
The measuring process is indicated by a blinking arrow on the display.
There are two possibilities to measure distances: using the outer edge or
using the hook function (inner edge) for measurements.
Outer edge measurement:
– Pull the tape (10) out of the adapter by the contact edge (11) and place
the tape with the outer edge (12) (marked in blue) against the object to
be measured (Fig. 6).
The visible length of tape (between the blue marking on the outer edge
of the contact edge and the marking on the exit of the tape on the
adapter housing) corresponds to the measurement length (in inch).

Hook function (inner edge (11)):
– Pull the tape (10) out of the adapter by the contact edge (11) and turn
the handle by 90° to the left. Place the handle on an edge to hook the
handle on the edge (Fig. 7).
The visible length of tape (between the blue marking on the exit of the
tape on the adapter housing of the adapter and the blue marked inner
edge of the handle) corresponds to the measurement length (in inch).
Press the measuring button (1) to save the measured value. The current
measured value (a) is shown on the bottom line of the display. Press the
measuring button (1) again to start a new measurement.
The current measured value (a) is shown on the bottom line of the display,
while the previous measured value (b) is saved and shown on the top line
of the display.
Note: When switching off the measuring tool, the current measured value
(a) is reset to "0", even if the tape is still pulled out. To avoid measuring er-
rors, always retract the tape fully before taking a new measurement. Do not
press the measuring button until you have done this.
If the tape is already extended when you are fitting the adapter to the meas-
uring tool or switching on the measuring tool, the "roll in" indicator will ap-
pear on the display. Retract the tape fully and press the measuring button
before taking a new measurement.
uAlways make sure that the measuring tape does not snap back into
the adapter. Release the tape slowly back into the adapter; otherwise
it may become damaged.

Measuring ength (see figures 8−10)
– Run the wheel (13) along the distance to be measured. After the meas-
uring tool has been switched on, the wheel measures continuously. The
current measured value (a) is shown on the bottom line of the display.
During continuous measurement, the wheel can be moved forwards or
backwards. The measured values will be positive in both directions. If
the direction is changed during the measurement, the value will be de-
ducted until the starting point (zero point) has been reached. Once the
starting point has been crossed, the value will become positive again.
The current measured value (a) is updated on the bottom line of the dis-
play.
– The measuring process ends once the wheel has come to a stop. The
current measured value (a) is shown.
– Press the measuring button (1) again to save the measured value, and
continue measuring. The current measured value (a) is shown on the
bottom line of the display, while the previous measured value (b) is dis-
played above it.
Note: In order to obtain an exact measurement, do not change the angle
between the measuring tool and the surface (see figure 10). Make sure that
you apply a steady amount of pressure throughout the measuring process.
The result may vary on soft substrates and/or when applying excessive
pressure. The recommended pressure for an exact measurement result is
1.1 pound-force (500 g).
