Dutchmen Kodiak 300BHSL Setup guide

How to setup a Dutchmen Kodiak 300BHSL
1) Inspect campsite.
a) Find out where the campsite drain for grey and black water is located
b) Check to make sure campsite is big enough to extend 2 foot long Mega-Slides on driver side
and 1.24 foot kitchen slide on passenger side of trailer.
c) Check for any tree branches, power lines and other objects that could possibly damage the
trailer. If such is present do not remove them yourself or try to go around them. Simply
point out that the spot is not suitable for the RV and have campground personal assign you
a new spot.
2) Positioning the trailer
a) Back in, or pull through (if possible) the camp spot and stop approximately 1 foot short of
where you want the RV to be parked.
b) Take level (usually located in the “bear cave” at the front of RV) and place it on the back
bumper and see if trailer sits level.
-If level, pull/back the remaining foot and continue with next step
-If not level, take orange pads or wood blocks and place them in front or in back of the
lower sides’ tires. Pull trailer onto them. Remember, if the bubble of the level is all the
way to the right (passenger side), that means the trailer is lower on the driver side. So
therefore put leveling blocks under lower sides’ tires.
-If not level, pull trailer off leveling blocks and add more leveling blocks and repeat
process until trailer is level.
3) Install power cord from trailer to campground outlet or generator (if generator is used, turn on
generator at this point to avoid battery drainage during leveling of trailer and extending slides).
The cord should be connected to a 30 AMP outlet. On the trailers power inlet it is required to
push plug into trailers electrical inlet, then turn it a quarter inch clockwise (to the right) then
install the grey safety nut by turning it clockwise until snug tight. Don’t over tighten. No
excessive force is required. Do not forget to turn on breaker at trailer parks power outlet were
you plugged in the cord. If there is power then you should see a small blue light on trailers
electrical inlet cover lid. If light is off and breaker turned on please ask campground personal for
help.
4) Remove power cord from pulling vehicle.
5) Remove safety pin from hitch latch of trailer
6) Lower power tong jacks leg to ground but don’t lift yet

7) Install wheel chocks in front and back of tires to ensure trailer won’t be able to move after
disconnecting from pulling vehicle
8) Lift up trailer tongs hitch latch up and pull it back (you do not have to hold it you can rest it on A-
frame once pulled back). If it does not move, try to put pulling vehicle into neutral and rock it
back and forth. This process takes two people.
9) Continue lowering the tong jacks leg until trailer starts to lift of the pulling vehicles hitch ball and
stop lifting
10) As soon as it is off, stop lifting and remove the towing safety chains from towing vehicle. It
should be safe to do so at this point. If trailer, after lifting off hitch ball keeps moving, secure the
trailer with more wheel chocks, re-position pulling vehicle and repeat the process. Under no
circumstances remove the trailers safety chains from pulling vehicle if rollaway of RV is possible.
11) Place trailer hitch safety pin in trailers toolbox
12) Pull towing vehicle out of the way (5-8 feet forward away from trailer)
13) If needed install safety lock to trailer tong
14) Put level on “Bear-Caves” floor, long ways, parallel with side of trailers (front to back) and level
trailer with tong jack. It is recommended to leave the front of trailer slightly higher than the
back.
15) Lower all 4 corner jacks onto leveling blocks. Do not lift trailer with jacks (jacks and trailer will
get damaged if you do so). Lower them until snug and the turn crank one more turn. That’s
more than enough. Corner jacks are not for leveling, they are only for stabilization support.
16) Install all sewer hoses. It is recommended to install to the front black and grey outlet of the
trailer and not the grey outlet in the back of trailer for kitchen grey water. Usually bathroom
grey and black water tanks fill more frequently than the kitchen grey water.
17) Install water supply hose but DO NOT turn water on at this point (if at campground. If dry
camping, skip this step)
NEVER HOOK UP HOSE TO TRAILER WITHOUT PRESSURE REGULATOR, you will damage trailers
water pipes by doing so.
18) Lower entrance stairs
19) Extend slides in the following order or you might damage the trailer. A second person is
required while extending slides to watch outside of the trailer to ensure slides won’t hit
anything.
a) Extend kitchen slide
b) Ensure dining room to back (Bunk Bed room) bed room door is closed and latched
(otherwise you will rip door off handle of door while extending living room slide) and extend
living room slide. Stop extending when you here a loud banging noise or when slides stop to
move.
c) Open door of bunk bedroom and extend slide (watch slide as you extend).
20) Open all faucets and turn water supply to trailer on (the hose you hooked up in step 17, or if dry
camping turn on trailers water pump so water can be pumped from fresh water tank (if filled).
The water pump switch is located on the control (located to the top right as you enter RV)
panel). Wait until most air escaped pipes and shut all faucets but one. Leave one hot water
faucet open so water heater can fill up with water and air can escape.

21) Ensure stove burners and oven is turned off and then turn on propane bottles
22) Turn all three burners of stove on (one at the time) and light them to make sure all air of
propane lines escaped. Let them burn for a few seconds and then turn them off
23) On the control panel (located to the top right as you enter RV) turn on water heater. There are 2
switches. One named propane and the other named electric. If you need hot water fast, turn
both of them on. If not, turn propane switch off and use electric only. That way you will preserve
propane and use only electricity to heat water. While dry camping (not at campsite with
hookup) it is recommended to use propane only instead of electric which requires a generator)
24) Turn on fridge on auto setting
25) Adjust thermostat as required for heating, ac or fan only
26) Raise trailers TV antenna (there is a crank located between TV and couch in ceiling) or hook up
cable TV connection to trailer (located next to city water inlet outside on driver side)
27) Insert chemicals (located under bathroom sink) into toilets holding tank through toilet
28) Put all tools back into tool box and lock “bear cave”.
29) Open vent latch for kitchen stove range hood (located next to kitchen window)
30) Enjoy your KODIAK!!!
