We recommen that a back raft amper be use in all Vent Hoo installations. Col
weather installations necessitate the use of a back raft amper to minimize the flow of
col air into the room. A non-metallic thermal break shoul also be installe to mini-
mize con uction of outsi e temperatures through the uctwork. Locate the thermal
break as close as possible to where the ucting enters the heate portion of the
house.
Before beginning installation of the Islan Vent Hoo an Ventilator, PLAN OUT the
entire installation proce ure beforehan , consi ering the following areas:
HOOD SIZE & LOCATION- (The hoo shoul be as wi e or wi er than the cooking
appliance with the hoo being centere on the appliance. Vertically, the bottom of
the hoo shoul be between 30”-36”above the appliance cooking surface.)
DUCTING- ( ucting transitions, air must flow to outsi e, use of Back raft
amper...etc.)
ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTS- (120 Volts, 60 Hz, 15 AMP Service, Local
Co es...etc.)
ADEQUATE MOUNTING SURFACES- (To support the weight of the vent hoo s,
location of ceiling stu s, a itional support for safe ceiling mounting...etc.)
HANDLING NOTE-This Hoo has been inspecte prior to shipping to be free of
efects. Due to the weight of the Islan Vent Hoo an Ventilator; an to prevent
scratching or enting the unit, we recommen the use of two installers to move,
place, an secure the Vent Hoo to avoi personal injury or amage to the Hoo .

Site Preparation
Site Preparation and Installation Guidelines

You will nee to create a secure soffit structure to mount the Islan Vent Hoo to
the ceiling. We suggest using 11/2 “by 31/2 “woo cut to fit the installation as
shown in the following pages. The soffit mounting to the top of the Islan Vent Hoo
will be 10 7/8 “in length for the DCS-IVH-48 an 10 3/4 “for the DCS-IVH-36.
These imensions allow room for a 1/2 rywall uct cover. Do not eviate from
these imensions when choosing a uct cover as the soffit structure must align with
the mounting holes on the Islan Vent Hoo . You are limite to a maximum of 1/2
inch on all si es.
NOTE: You will nee to etermine which type of uct cover will be use before
installation an leave enough space aroun the soffit for a flush mount between the
uct cover material an the top of the Islan Vent Hoo .
CAUTION- When installing the ISLAND VENT HOOD irectly to the ceiling, a equate
structural supports are CRITICAL to secure the unit. The Islan Vent Hoo is heavy,
weighing 128 LBS for the DCS-IVH 48 an 94 LBS for the DCS-IVH-36.
NOTE: The soffit height will vary accor ing to the ceiling height.
GENERAL INSTALLATION GUIDELINES:
1) Determine the location for installation.
2) Determine the centerline of the installation.
3) If rywall is installe , cut away enough rywall to expose 2 ceiling joist (1 on
each si e of the Hoo center line)
4) Create your soffit structure accor ing to ceiling height an attach soffit plates
for DCS-IVH-36 or soffit brackets for DCS-IVH-48 with screws to si es (see the
following pages for soffits an construction).
5) Attach soffit structure to existing ceiling joist.
6) Secure soffit with soffit braces accor ing to mo el type (see iagrams page 7-
10).
7) Attach Islan Vent Hoo to soffit with the six 2 inch mounting screws provi e .
Once the Islan Vent Hoo has been mounte in place it will be necessary to install
the electrical service. All electrical work shoul be one by a qualifie electrician an
must conform to all local stan ar s. Refer to the wiring iagram on Pg. 13 for proper
hook-up an groun ing.
NOTE: Black=live, White=neutral, Green=groun
Complete the installation by making uctwork connections, testing unit functions,
an installing & finishing rywall.

DCS-I H-48 Requirements
DCS-I H-36 Requirements
When planning the path for ucting to the outsi e, keep in min the following gui e-
lines:
- Minimize use of elbows an transitions in uctwork as to maximize air flow to out-
si e of buil ing. An efficient airflow path contributes to the overall efficiency of the
Vent Hoo .
- DCS recommen s the use of “smooth wall”ucting, not flexible uctwork.
- Transitions are require from rectangular to roun ucting
(see transitions as shown below)
- Duct tape may be use at ucting joints.
- DCS recommen s the use of 10”roun ucting which provi es 78.6 In.2of sur-
face area.
- See Duct Accessories below on for ratio to 10”transition.
- Alternate uct sizes in rectangular style may be use . If a rectangular uct style is
use , the uct must equal at least 78.6 In.2for best results. (

A single switch controls the 4 halogen lights. The switch controls the brightness of
the lights with Hi/Off/Low. Use only 50w Max. Halogen Narrow Floo replacement
bulbs.
Caution! Halogen lamps are constructe of a glass bulb with a pressurize
internal filament tube that operates at high temperatures an coul be ischarge
into the fixture enclosure an /or surroun ing environment, thereby creating a risk of
personal injury of fire. When replacing the bulb, let the bulb cool, an assure that
power to light has been turne off. Never allow a hot bulb to come into contact with
