Introduction:
TheMystiqueisabeautiful
ARFandoneofthebest
qualitykitsIhaveseen.This
babyisbig,sowatchyourself
goingthroughdoorwayswiththosewings!!Thekitisaneasybuild,butrequiresalotofpatience.
Themotor,ESC,andradioinstallationiseasy,butthewingstakesometimetodoright.Ihave
alreadyworkedoutallthebendsandtricksyouwillneedtoshoehornintheservosandgetthe
recommendedcontrolthrowstoflythisawesomeglider.Havefun,andtakeyourtime.Youwillbe
rewardedwithanexcellentflying"fullhouse"glider.Ifyouareworriedaboutthecost,Icomparedit
tosetupsofequivalentsizeandquality,andyouwillpayuptotwiceasmuchforotherglidersofthis
capabilityandquality.TheMystiqueisagreatvalue,andflieslikeadream.Itreallyisthatgood.
StartingOut:
TheMystiqueisabout95%pre‐built,andyouarebasicallyputtingintheelectronicsandpower
system.Ifyouusetherecommendedequipment,itmakesthingseasier.Thewingsandhorizontal
mayrequiresomeironingofthecoveringastemperaturechangescancausewrinklesbetweenyou
andthefactory.Makesureyouuseanicecoveringironwithacottonsock.Followthemanual
carefullyexceptwherenotedinthiswriteup.

Somebuildingtips:
1. Takeyourtimeandgoslow.Itshouldonlytakeaweek'sworthof
evenings.Patienceiskeysoyoudon'tdamageorpokeholesinthe
covering.
2. Laysomethinfoamorclothontheworkbenchtoavoidscoringthe
wingswhenworkingonthem.
3. Readtheinstructionscarefullyandfollowthemexceptwherenoted
inthiswriteup.
4. Usecanopyglue(notCA)ontheflapandaileronlinagefairingsand
leavealittle"foot"atthebasewhencuttingthemout.Thiswill
givethemamoresecuregluingsurface.
5. ProgramyourESCtoBRAKEON[hard].Thisisveryimportanttomakeyourpropstopsspinningwhen
yougotoidleonthethrottlestick.Aspinningpropatidlecausesalotofdrag!
WingServoInstallation:
Thehardestpartofassemblywillbetheaileronandflapcontrollinkages.Thewingisthin,solow
profileservosarerequired.IfyoutrytheHS‐85MGinthewing,theymayfit,butexpecttodosome
modificationstoavoidbindingofthecontrolrods.Thelowprofileservosaremoreexpensive,butI
thinktheyareworthit.
Ifyoudon'tusealowprofileservo,oryouwantmore
than20degreesofstockflapdeflection,youwillhaveto
installtheflapcontrollinkagewiththearminthedown
position.Thereareplastic"bumps"suppliedinthekittoprotectandcovertheservoarmwhereit
willstickoutoftheslotontheservocover.Thisiswhytheflapservocoverisslottedincaseyouwish
toinstalltheflapforlargerdeflections.Ifyouinstalltheflapsperthemanual,youcanjustcoverthe
slotsintheflapservocoverswithcleartape.
WARNING!
Ifyoudeflecttheflapsmorethan20degreesduringlanding,theymaystrikethegroundanddamage
theflaporservo.ThisiswhytheMystiquestockflapdeflectionisonlyabout20degreesperthe
manual.Forsportflyingandeasylanding,thisisplentyofflap.

1. Thecontrolrodsshouldbebentononeendby15
degrees,35mmfromthetrailingedge(TE)asshown
inFigure4Aileron/FlapControlRodBend.Measurethe
anglecarefully,becauseitisatightfit.
2. Placetheservoarmsontheflapandaileronservoat
anangleof10degreestowardtheleadingedgeand
NOT20degreesasshowninthemanualonpage6.
3. Cleartheaileronlinkageexitholeabout5mmfrom
thebottomofthewingtoavoidbinding.Thiswill
provideenoughclearanceforthedeflectionlistedin
themanual.ReferenceFigure5AileronLinkage
Clearance.
4. Cleartheflaplinkageexitholeatananglesoitdoesn't
bindwhentheflapisextendeddown.Reference

5. Beforeflight,youmustgluedowntheelevatorcontrol
rodinsidethefuselageabout12"aftoftheservosasshowninFigure7andFigure8.Youcan
use30minuteepoxyandmicroballoons.Thiswilleliminateanyflexinthecontrolrode
duringhighspeedflight.Theflightloadonthestabilizermaypitchthenosedownandcause
youtogointoanunrecoverabledive.DONOTSKIPTHISSTEP!!!
WARNING!MUSTFIX!!!
TheelevatorcontrolrodcanflexduringhighspeedflightcausingtheMystiquetogointoan
uncontrolleddive.Youmustgluethecontrolrodasexplainedinstep5abovetoavoidthis!

RadioSetup:
Thecontrolsettingsinthemanualareverygoodforsportglidingandareagoodplacetostart.
Dependingonyourradio,youcansetupagliderinmanyways.Ifyouareanadvancedgliderpilot,
youknowhowtoprogramyourglideralreadyandyoucanskipthissection.However,ifyouarelike
meandjusttoenjoysportglidinginasimpleformat,thenfollowthissectionandprogramyourglider
usingAIRPLANEmode.Thesesettingswillgiveyounormalthrottleoperation,athermalmodeforlift,
alandingmodewithflaps,andacruisesetting.Youcanignorethespeedsettingwhichinvolves
reflexingthewing(negativeflapandaileron)becauseIdidnotfindittobeanoticeabledifference
fromthecruisesettingduringmyflighttesting.
Startbymakingsureyourflapsystemisenabledinyoursetupmenuonthetransmitter.Eachwing
servomustbeonadifferentchannel,andthisiswhyyouneedminimumofasevenchannelreceiver
andtransmitterforthissetup.Ifyouonlyhaveasixchannelradioorless,andreallywanttotake
advantageofthewonderfulflightcharacteristicsoftheMystique,thenitistimetoupgradeyour
radio.Youwillbegladyoudid.Followthedeflectionsgiveninthemanual,andyouwon'tneedto
setanywingdifferential.E‐flitedidthisbyreducingthedowntraveloneachailerontoamaxof
12mm,andtheupaileronmaxdeflectionto20mm(measurefromtheinboardedgeoftheaileron).
Checkyouraileronthrowsandsetyourservotravelinthetransmittertogetthesesettings.Also,
makesurethefullflapdeflectiongivesyou20mmdownasmeasuredfromtheinboardedgeofthe
flap.Therudderandelevatordeflectionsshouldalsobesetperthemanual.Themixesanddual
ratesforeasysportflyingareasfollows:

OptionalWingServoConnectors:
Ifyouwanttotakethetimeforaneasywingservoconnector,solderupapairofMultiplexconnectorsfor
eachwing.Thenyouwillalwaysbesurethattheflapandaileronsarepluggedincorrectly,andyouwillonly
haveoneplugforeachwinginsteadoftwo.Ialwaysdothisonmybigplaneswherethereismorethanone
servoperwing.Justtakesome3"servoextensionsandclipofftheendsandcarefullysolderuptheMultiplex
connectorsasshowninthepictures.Besuretouseheatshrink.Youcanalsogluethefemaleconnectorto
thefuselageandmakeeachwingpluginautomaticallyasyouslideitinplace.
