1 INTRODUCTION
1.1 PURPOSE
This document is the I level (Intermediate level) maintenance manual for G2 Handportables.
The operation of the G2 Handportable and its individual subassemblies are described in the
G2 Terminal Technical Manual (see Section 1.3, Document <2>).
The terminal test benches are described in the TRB V2 Technical Manual (see Section 1.3,
Document <1>).
This document is divided into the following chapters:
•Chapter 0 : Preliminaries
•Chapter 1 : Introduction
This chapter provides general information including abbreviations, definitions, etc.
•Chapter 2 : Description
This chapter provides a description of the hardware and operation of the G2
handportable, and gives a full list of essential tools required for I level maintenance.
•Chapter 3 : Maintenance
This chapter describes the I level maintenance processes and the procedures for
replacing parts. It contains replacement sheets and photographs relating to the
dismantling and reassembly of the G2 handportable.
•Chapter 4 : Notes
This chapter includes 4 blank pages for the operator to make notes.
•Chapter 5 : Plates
This chapter contains the document plates.

1.5 DEFINITIONS
D level maintenance (Depot)
Complex troubleshooting operations and replacement of defective components or
subassemblies at the RRC (Return and Repair Centre) by specialists using specific tools
and special test and measuring equipment.
The SRB bench is for D level maintenance and is used to pinpoint faulty components in
terminal boards.
I level maintenance (Intermediate)
Complex troubleshooting operations and replacement of defective subassemblies at
regional level by specialists using specific tools.
The TRB bench is for I level maintenance and is used to pinpoint faulty terminal
subassemblies.
Maintenance and renovation tasks
Operations carried out on a product as part of preventive or corrective maintenance in order
to restore its original characteristics and appearance.
Renovation is a maintenance task carried out to restore a product’s appearance as close
as possible to new.
MTBF
The mean time before failure is calculated in accordance with the standard MIL–HDBK217F.
•Two types of element are involved:
electrical components: voltage, current, power output, junction temperature,
moving mechanical parts: these are subject to repetitive action until the defect
occurs,
•the estimated G2 handportable MTBF is ≥50,000 hours under the following conditions:
environment: moving surface,
ambient temperature: 30°C.
O level maintenance (Organisational)
Simple troubleshooting operations and replacement of defective subassemblies by users

Replacement parts and consumables
A repairable part is a part or subassembly which can be repaired by the next level in the
maintenance hierarchy. I level repairable parts are repaired at D level.
A non–repairable part is a part or subassembly which cannot be repaired by the next level
in the maintenance hierarchy. These parts are discarded after being replaced.
Consumables are spare parts or common items used in maintenance tasks (grease, labels,
screws).
