Thank you for using EasyDisk.
What is EasyDisk?
EasyDisk is basically a portable USB hard drive used for storage and transportion of data and
applications. Lightweight and compact, the EasyDisk is incredibly small and can fit right into your
pocket! Requires no cables, power supplies, or batteries.
EasyDisk acts as a removable hard drive when plugged into a USB port. EasyDisk is truly plug-n-
play on Operating Systems that support USB 1.1, like Windows ME, 2000, and XP. The OS will
detect the device and add it as a free drive letter. Windows 98 requires a driver to be installed and
then it functions normally. The Windows 98 driver ships on a floppy disk with the product or can be
easily downloaded from "downloads" section.
EasyDisk uses durable solid state storage, there are no moving parts making it shock resistant so it
can withstand the bumps and grinds of everyday use. EasyDisk is much more convenient than bulky
Zip drives or external hard drives and floppy drives.
Save your work, MP3 music, videos, pictures, applications, games, save anything on your computer
and take them from home to work to school to your family, to your friends! Since your computer
sees EasyDisk as a removable hard drive, you can save, delete, and move files endless numbers of
times without worries.
EasyDisk comes with a 3 foot USB extension cable for convenient use on systems that are stored
where the USB ports are not easily accessed. EasyDisk is also packaged with a holder that can be
clipped to a bag or even your belt.

A. Windows 98 / SE
** Do not install the EasyDisk into the USB Port before installing the EasyDisk Driver
1. Verify that your computer has a USB interface.
2. Verify that the USB controller of computer is working
Ways to Check:
Open "My Computer" and find your "Control Panel". Open the "Control Panel" and click on
the "Device Manager" tab. Here you will see a list of all the devices installed on your
computer. Look for "Universal Serial Bus Controllers." Expand the USB controllers and verify
that you have devices listed here. You will should see "USB Root Hub" and maybe another
device name referring to Intel, VIA, or SIS. If you are missing these drivers, this means that
your system is not recoginizing the USB ports on your computer. You should check you
system BIOS to verify they are turned on. Please refer to you computer manufacturer for
help.
3. Driver Installation: Exit out of "System Properties" and return to "My Computer" Insert
your EasyDisk driver diskette or CD. You will find a file in the root directory called
"EzdSetup" (If you do not have the driver diskette handy, you can visit our website at

4. Run Driver File - Double Click on the "EzdSetup" file and click "OK"
The wizard will prompt you that the EasyDisk installation was successfully in Windows 98.
Click "OK"
5. Plug the EasyDisk into the USB interface of the computer, the system will "find new
hardware" and install the EasyDisk automatically. During the installation, system will find a
series of new hardware. When the installation is completed, a new Drive will appear using
the next available drive letter. It will be labeled "Removable Disc" and will appear in "My
Computer." You can operate the EasyDisk the same as any other hard drives you may have.
You may need to restart your PC if you have problems.
If your operating system cannot find the appropriate driver during installation, select the
appropriate *.inf location. In most cases the *.inf files are saved in c:\windows\inf. If your
operation system is setup differently with the OS installed in a different directory or drive
other than c:\windows look in the sub-directories of your OS directory.

1. Verify that your computer has a USB interface.

Ways to Check:
Open "My Computer" and find your "Control Panel". Open the "Control Panel" and click on
the "System" icon. From the system properties box, select the "Hardware Tab" (See below)
and open up the "Device Manager"

From the "Device Manager" you will see a list of all the devices installed on your computer.
Look for "Universal Serial Bus Controllers." Expand the USB controllers and verify that you
have devices listed here. You should see "USB Root Hub" and maybe another device name
referring to Intel, VIA, or SIS. If you are missing these drivers, this means that your system
is not recognizing the USB ports on your computer. You should check you system BIOS to
verify they are turned on. Please refer to you computer manufacturer for help.

3. Plug in your EasyDisk The system operating system will discover EasyDisk by itself and
the install the necessary drivers. A new icon and driver letter, "Removable Disc" will appear
in "My Computer" automatically.

4. Verify EasyDisk is working - open "Control Panel" again and check the "System
Properties", in which you'll find EasyDisk listed under "Disk drives".
5. Verify and us the "Unplug or Eject Hardware" icon. This Icon will appear in the system
tray of your task bar. To prevent data loss or corruption, use this tool to unplug your or
initialize your EasyDisk.

1. In order to increase the EasyDisk reliability, working life, and protection from viruses. The boot
sector of the EasyDisk is write protected.
2. Formatting the EasyDisk is an available option operation in Win98, Win98SE, and Windows
ME. Because the boot sector is "read only" the EasyDisk does not support the "Format" function in
Windows 2000. You need to manually delete files and directories to recover space on the EasyDisk.
If you accidentally attempt to format the EasyDisk in Windows 2000, try formatting it again on a
machine that uses Windows 98, SE, or ME or use the special format command set - see below
3. EasyDisk is very reliable; we ensure that bad tracks on the disk will not appear within rewriting
of 1,000,000 times. Please don't perform a "complete scan" or "defrag" with disk tools available in
most operating systems. This type of operation performs many "writes" and "rewrites" and is not
recommend or necessary. This can affect the working life of the EasyDisk.
4. Some software and disk tools may write to the disk frequently, which could affect sector life. Try
avoiding this type of software.
5. The data transfer rates for the EasyDisk are limited to approximately 6mbps write and 9.6mbps
read. Because of the command sets used to read and write data, systems using Windows 2000 and
Windows XP will have higher transfer rates than systems using Windows 98.
6. EasyDisk supports hot plug and play, you need to pay attention to whether the data transfer is
finished or not. Unplugging the EasyDisk before data transfer is completed will lead operating
system error, and the transfer data will be damaged. Please note that the operating system
processing bar will show when the data transfer is finished. If the indicator LED is Flashing, DO
NOT remove the EasyDisk. It is in the process of writing or reading data. If the LED is a solid
color, (for more than 5 seconds) it should be safe to remove.

You can use the special EasyDisk Commands to format your EasyDisk and return it back to its original
state. These functions can be done from any operating system.
A. Format "@@frmt" - Use this command to "low level" format the EasyDisk or to format the
EasyDisk in Windows 2000 or Windows XP.
EasyDisk commands are initiated from your file command from your "File Manager" or "Windows
Explorer.
1. Open up and browse your EasyDisk drive.
2. Create a new directory called "@@frmt"
3. Right Click on the directly the folder and select properties.
4. In the "Attributes" section - select "Read-only", "Hidden", and "Archive". - then select "Apply" or
"OK"

5. Now from your "Task Manager" (located in the lower left of your task bar") Left Click on the icon.
You will see function to stop EasyDisk. Go ahead and stop the EasyDisk. (The EasyDisk will be
represented as a drive letter)
6. You OS will notify you that it is ok to remove hardware. You can then remove the EasyDisk from the
USB port.
7. When you reinsert the EasyDisk - it will be formatted and ready for use.
B. User ID "@@urid" - Use this command to restore and verify EasyDisk ID and Serial number. If you
formant the EasyDisk in Windows 98 or Windows ME, the EasyDisk ID and Serial number will
disappear. You will need to recover this information by using the "@@urid" command. This might be
necessary for warranty replacement.
This function will erase all data on the EasyDisk - Back up your data before performing this.

8. Two new files will appear - these files will have the ID and Serial number of your EasyDisk.

1. When I insert my EasyDisk my computer tells me new hardware has been found
but I don't see any new drive icon.
You may need to turn on "Auto Arrange" in "My Computer" - Your icon is probably under
one of the other icons or at the bottom of your page. Or you many need to refresh your
screen by using the F5 key or the refresh from the "View" section of the rule bar.
2. I have Windows 98/SE and it does not see the EasyDisk?
You need to first confirm that your USB ports are working correctly. You can check your
"system devices" from the "Control Panel" and confirm that your USB ports are working, if
not you need to reference/contact your motherboard or system manufacturer.
Now that you know your USB ports are working, you FIRST need to install the EasyDisk
driver before using the EasyDisk. This can be found on your installation diskette or can be
downloaded from www.easydiskusa.com. Once this is done, you can reboot
3. I have experienced difficulties using some USB peripherals on my PC system,
would I find similar problem with the EasyDisk?
It appears you have lost clusters or errors on your EasyDisk. This may have happened by
removing the EasyDisk from the USB port while data was still being written. You will need to
perform a HARD FORMAT of the EasyDisk. Safely remove and back up any data before
performing this operation. See FAQ QUESTION 5 or your owners manual on how to do this.
4. How do I format my EasyDisk in Windows 98/SE or Windows ME?
In Windows 98, Windows 98SE and Windows ME, you can format the drive through your
operation system's software.
5. How do I format my EasyDisk in Windows 2000 or Windows XP?
In Windows 2000 and Windows XP you CANNOT format using your operating system's
format command. This is because the boot sector of the EasyDisk is "write" protected. In
these more advanced operating systems, the format command tries to write to the boot
sector. Since this is not allowed, you will get a format error. You need to used the special
EasyDisk commands to get this to work. SEE FAQ QUESTION #4
6. How to I format my EasyDisk using the "EasyDisk Commands'?
You can use the special EasyDisk Commands to format your EasyDisk and return it back to
its original state. This can be done from any operating system.

7. I accidentally erased data or directories from my EasyDisk, can I restore them.
Your computer sees EasyDisk just like any other hard drive - unless your computer is
configured to have these files moved to your recycle bin, there is no way to restore deleted
data.
8. When I insert my EasyDisk my computer tells me "new hardware found" and the
drive letter appears, but when I try to access the EasyDisk I am told the drive has
been disconnected.
Insert the EasyDisk, and before you try to access it, click on the "remove/unplug" icon in
the system tray, and remove the EasyDisk. Once your computer says it is safe to remove
the EasyDisk, do so and then plug it back in. The EasyDisk should function normally now.
