Eachguidewillofferaconciseoverviewofaparticular
productseriesandillustratethemostcommonmethods
ofuse.Thischapterwillfocusontheapplicationofthe
sixmostcommonKF860SeriesVirtualLineArray
configurations.
KF860 SERIES
TheKF860/VLASeriescomprisestwo
high-outputmodulesoptimizedto
createverticallinearrays. TheSeries
comprisestwomodules–theKF860
whichfeaturesa60°horizontal
coveragepattern,andtheKF861
whichfeaturesa90°patternfor
nearfieldcoverage.Nominalvertical
coverageis30°buttheeacharray'strue
verticalpatternisdeterminedbythesizeand
configurationofthearrayaswellasbydigitalsignal
processorsettings.
Eachmodulecontains2x15-inwoofers,2xhorn-loaded
10-inmidfrequencyconedrivers,and2x2-inexit/75mm
voicecoilcompressiondriversonconstantdirectivityhorns.

TheKF860/VLASerieswasoriginallydevelopedtohelp
solvespecificproblemsforhigh-endentertainmentindustry
eventsthatfeaturedbothliveandbroadcastaudiences.
Thekeydesignparameterswereminimalarraysize,high
outputandbroadbandpatterncontrol.
PartoftheKF860Seriessolutionwastheapplication
ofconfiguration-specificdigitalsignalprocessing(DSP)
tomaintainpatterncontroloveranexceptionallywide
bandwidth.Settingsvarydependingonthenumberof
modulesinthearrayandtheanglebetweenadjacent
modules.ThustwocrucialelementsofanyKF860Series
applicationareaccuratelysplayingtheenclosuresand
applyingthecorrectDSPsettings.

Tomaintainaccurateandrepeatablearrayangles,EAW
developedaunique,all-steelriggingsystemfortheKF860
Seriesthateliminatesguesswork.Thesteelriggingplatesthat
linkmodulestogetherfitintosteel-tubingbracketsoneach
endofthemoduleandaresecuredwithquick-releasepins.
Thereaderwillfindacompleteexplanationofthisrigging
systemonpages7and8ofthisguideaswellasinthe
companionpublication,KF860 Hardware Instructions.
EAW has developedappropriatesettingsfortheMX8600
CloseCoupledDigitalProcessortocontroleachofthe
KF860arrayconfigurationsdiscussedinthisguide.These
settingsareavailablefromtheftp(filetransferprotocol)
sectionofEAW's website(www.eaw.com)orcanbefaxedas
textfilesformanualentry. These settings are appropriate to
theMX8600andonlytheMX8600.Donotattempttouse
thesesettingsinanyotherDSPunit.ContactEAW's

HANGING AND AIMING
KF860 SERIES ARRAYS
HangingKF860arraysrequirestheuseofadedicated
"bumperbar"developedforEAWbyATM, Inc. The bumper
baracceptsthetopportionoftheriggingplatesattwelve
pre-configuredlocations.
Thetopmoduleofanyarraywillbeaimedatanangle
determinedbythebumperbarlocationselectedandthesize
andconfigurationofthearray.Asmostapplicationrequire
thearraytobehungabovetheintendedcoveragearea,the
barhasbeendesignedtoaimthearray'soutputdown.
However, the bar can be reversedtoaimthearray'soutputin
anupwarddirection.Achartindicatingallpossibleangles
thatcanbeobtainedfromtheriggingsystemcanbefound
onpage8ofthisguide.
EAW has developedaspeciallymodifiedhandtruckto
assist inriggingKF860Seriesarrays. Specificinstructionon
itsusecanbefoundatEAW's websiteorbycontactingEAW
andrequestingtheKF860RiggingHardwareInstructions.

clustersonliftsorscaffolds.
Coverage:20degrees(specificanglesdeterminedbyaiming)

Splay:Theboxesarenominallysplayed10degrees,whichis
thetight-packedconfiguration.Thecoverageanglecanbe
openeduportightenedbysplayingmoreorlessthanthe
nominal10degrees.Ground-stackingnote???
Aiming:Theclustershouldbeaimedsothattheseam
betweenthetwoboxespointsatthefarthestseat.This
configurationistunedfora200ftthrow.
