EBS-350 GormET !
EBS GormET är den mest kompletta,
kraftfulla och flexibla bascombo som
någonsin har tillverkats. Med inbyggt
delningsfilter, monitorfuntion, super-aktiva
filter och det klassiska EBS ljudet, erbjuder
EBS GormET en mängd möjligheter, som
beskrivs i denna manual. Men först av allt
följer en introduktion som hjälper dig att bli
bekant EBS GormET.
ATT KOMMA IGÅNG...
1. Packa försiktigt upp combon.
2. Se till att alla kontroller är ställda fullt
motsols. Fortsätt med att ställa de tre
filterrattarna märkta BASS, MIDDLE och
TREBLE till mittposition. Leta upp
filteromkopplaren och ställ den i läge
BYPASS. Se även till att omkopplaren
märkt
Character är i uttryckt läge. Nu är
ljudet i EBS GormET "nollställt" och redo
för att skapa just ditt personliga sound.
3. Koppla in din bas.
4. Spela hårt på basen och vrid upp GAIN
ratten tills PEAK dioden börjar blinka. Än
har du inget hörbart ljud, men en perfekt
signal att jobba vidare med.
5. Sök och vrid upp VOLUME ratten till
lämplig ljudnivå.

The EBS GormET is the most
powerful, versatile and complete bass
combo ever built. With built in crossover,
monitor section and a super powerful EQ,
the unit offers an extremely wide range of
possibilities, while maintaining that classic
EBS sound. These brief tutorials will help
you to become acquainted with some of the
features of the EBS GormET.
GETTING STARTED...
1. Carefully unpack the bass combo.
2. Check that the controls are set fully counter
clockwise. Proceed by turning the three
filter knobs marked BASS, MIDDLE and
TREBLE to mid position. Locate the filter
switch and set it to BYPASS. Make also
sure that the switch marked Character is in
its’ outer position. Now the EBS GormET’s
settings are "zeroed" and ready to be
personalized.
3. Plug in your bass.
4. While plucking the strings as hard as you
would during your hardest playing, gradually
increase the GAIN knob until the PEAK led
starts to flash at peaks.
5. Move over to the VOLUME knob and adjust
for the desired output volume.

BUILDING THE SOUND...
Your
EBS GormET features an en-
hanced tone shaping circuit, that will
enable you to create a variety of bass
sounds.
6. Toggle the BYPASS switch to it’s outer
position to enable sound shaping.
7. Play your bass. Note that there isn't any
difference in the sound yet.
8. The filters are basically of the boost/cut
design. This means that the level controls
marked with + and - signs, either boost or
cuts the selected frequency band. Further,
the MIDDLE section has got a frequency
control for precise adjustment of the
midrange.
9. Gradually increase or decrease the level and
vary the frequency, where is, of the various
filter sections. Notice how the sound is
effected. An A/B comparison can be made
by switching the filter switch to BYPASS.
10. Repeat as above by trying out the preshape
filter Character. Note that this control is not
effected by the BYPASS switch.
11. Proceed to the COMP/LIMIT knob. This
control adjusts the compression and is useful
when playing very dynamic or loud.
12. Turn up the COMP/LIMIT knob to mid and
max position. Notice how the peaks in
volume will straighten out as you play
harder and harder.
13. Now, go on to the BRIGHT next to the filter
switch and turn it half way up. Play your
bass. The BRIGHT filter is a high pass filter
which works on the highest frequencies of
the bass to give enhanced ambiance and
presence.
This was a brief tutorial of EBS GormET.
As you go on further in this manual, you
will learn how to use and utilize all of the
useful features that the EBS GormET off-
ers you.
BYGGA UPP ETT LJUD...
EBS GormET innehåller en mycket
sofistikerad ljudbearbetningsdel, som er-
bjuder dig en mängd användbara bas ljud.
6. Ställ BYPASS omkopplaren i uttryckt läge.
Detta tillåter oss att bearbeta ljudet.
7. Spela på din bas. Notera att det inte är
någon skillnad i ljudet än.
8. Filterrattarna som är markerade med + och
- tecken kan antingen förstärka eller dämpa
det aktuella frekvens- området. Dessutom
har MIDDLE ytterligare en ratt för
frekvensval som ger dig total kontroll över
mellanregistrets klang och karaktär.
9. Ändra filter-inställningarna och mellan-
registrets frekvenskontroll. Lägg märke till
alla skillnader i ljudet. Jämför det "raka"
med det filtrerade ljudet genom att koppla
om filteromkopplaren till BYPASS läget.
10. Prova enligt ovan med att använda preshape
filtret märkt Character. Notera att detta
filter inte påverkas av BYPASS
omkopplaren.
11. Fortsätt över till COMP/LIMIT ratten.
Kompressorn är användbar t.ex. för att
undvika överstyrning vid dynamiskt och
starkt spel.
12. Vrid upp COMP/LIMIT ratten till mitten
och maxläge. Lägg märke till hur volymen i
topparna dämpas ju hårdare du spelar.
13. Gå vidare till BRIGHT precis bredvid filter
omkopplaren och vrid upp BRIGHT ratten
samtidigt som du spelar på basen. BRIGHT
filtret tar fram de högsta frekvenserna från
basen, med ökad närhetskänsla och briljans
som resultat.

POWERAMP/CABINET - The internal
accelerated poweramp is of the MOSFET
design giving natural sound reproduction
and high power output with exceptional
clarity.
The incorporated soft clip system
provides tube-alike distortion
characteristics, protects the power amp
from saturation and increases it’s output
performance and sound quality.
The poweramp makes possible
maximum continuous power output,
reducing the maximum temperature of the
unit by the use of the SCS™ cooling
system, specially developed by EBS
Sweden AB.
The powerful Evolution speakers
together with our professional high
frequency driver give the combo a
powerful and natural sound throughout
the entire frequency spectrum with
unbeatable dynamics and warmth.
The incorporated tweeter fader, situated
on the rear side of the cabinet, makes
possible a precise control over the highs.
IMPORTANT: Make sure not to cover
the ventilation cutouts on the rear panel.

POWERAMP/CABINET - Det inbyggda

INPUT - A low noise, high impedance
instrument input that also will power active
pickups and circuitry. If you want to use
this function, take away the 9 Volt battery
from your bass and strap + and - pole on
the battery holder.
Use a standard stereo jack plug, when
using the phantom powering from the EBS-
GormET.
The power is switchable off if you do not
wish to use this feature, or if you have a
passive instrument without built-in elec-
tronics. Set the DIP-switch no 6 to OFF
(upper position) to defeat the phantom
power.
INPUT - En extremt lågbrusig och hög-
impediv instrumentingång, som dessutom
kan strömförsörja aktiva pickuper. Skall
denna funktion användas, tag bort 9 Volts
batteriet ur basen och kortslut över batteri-
hållarens + och - pol.
Då strömmatning från EBS-GormET till
instrumentet önskas skall en stereotelepropp
användas.
Strömmatningen kan enkelt kopplas bort
om man inte vill utnyttja denna möjlighet
eller t.ex. har ett instrument som inte kräver
batteri för att fungera. Ställ då DIP-
omkopplare nr 6 i läge OFF (uppfällt läge)
för att koppla bort strömmatningen.
IMPORTANT: If you are using the
phantom powering make sure the GAIN or
the VOLUME knob is set to zero while
plugging in the instrument cable.
VIKTIGT: Om du använder phantom
matningen/strömmatningen se till att GAIN
eller VOLUME ratten är nerdragen när du
kopplar in/ut instrumentkabeln.

GAIN - Här justeras instrumentets
signalstyrka till rätt arbetsnivå för vidare
bearbetning i EBS-GormET.
För bästa grundnivå, vrid upp GAIN
kontrollen tills PEAK blinkar till vid högsta
utsignal från instrumentet.
Not: Rätt inställd GAIN är en förutsättning
för att signalbearbetningen i EBS-GormET
skall bli fullgod.
GAIN - Control to adjust the instruments'
signal strength to the right operating level
in the EBS-GormET.
For optimum basic signal level, turn up
the GAIN knob until the PEAK led starts
flashing from the strongest signal from the
instrument.
Note: A correctly set GAIN is vital for the
signal processing to work properly in the
EBS-GormET.
BALANCED OUTPUT - Is a high quality
balanced output. Designed electronically
floating, which means the output always
will adapt itself when sending to an
asymmetrical device such as an unbalanced
input, to keep a correct level with high
noise immunity.
The balanced output functions as a line
box for connecting to PA mixing consoles
or to studio or broadcast recording units.
Lifting ground is a great aid in many
occasions. When required, set the Gnd Lift
DIP switch (no 1) at the rear panel to upper
position to disconnect the ground from the
output.
The Post Eq DIP-switch no 2 at the rear
selects the signal source. In the upper
position this switch selects the overall
sound included effects, otherwise, in the
lower position an uncolored sound is taken
immediately after the input and gain
sections.
The balanced output takes its’ signal
from the left loop channel by default.
The MONITOR signal is never present
at this output.

SPEAKER SIMULATOR - The EBS-
GormET features a speaker simulator for
the balanced output. This feature is tuned
together with the speaker and cabinet in
order to send the same sound image from
the combo as heard on stage.
To activate this function, put DIP-switch
no 3 into upper position.
Note: The speaker simulator function is
only available for the balanced output.
BALANCED OUTPUT - Är en
linjeutgång av mycket hög kvalitet. Denna
utgång innehåller en elektroniskt flytande
balansering som vid asymmetrisk
mottagning i t.ex. en obalanserad ingång,
är självjusterande för att alltid ge en perfekt
signalöverföring.
Den balanserande utgången fungerar som
en linebox och kan anslutas till t.ex. PA-
mixers eller studioinspelningsutrustning.
Jordlyft är till stor hjälp när jordbrum
uppstår. Ställ Gnd Lift omkopplaren, DIP-
omkopplare nr 1 i uppfällt läge för att
koppla bort jorden.
Post Eq omkopplaren (DIP-switch nr 2)
väljer vilken signal som skall sändas. I det
övre läget tappas hela ljudbilden av
inklusive effekter, medan det lägre läget
väljer ljudet direkt efter ingångens GAIN
kontroll.
Den balanserade utgången hämtar sin
signal ifrån vänster kanal ifrån
effektloopen.
MONITOR signalen finns aldrig på
denna utgång.

SPEAKER SIMULATOR - EBS-GormET
innehåller en högtalarsimulator för den
balanserade utgången. Den här funktionen
är kalibrerad mot högtalaren och kabinettet
för att samma ljudspektrum sänds iväg från
kombon som ljudet som hörs live.
För att aktivera denna funktion, ställ
DIP-omkopplare nr 3 i uppfällt läge.
Not: Högtalarsimulatorn är endast
tillgänglig på den balanserade utgången.

LINE OUT - This is a fullrange output
that will drive multiple poweramps,
extending the power of the system.
This output is not effected by the setting
of the built-in crossover filter. The output
always leaves a fullrange signal.

TUNER OUT - This low impedance out-
put is suitable for driving tuners. The
signal from this output is identical to the
instruments’ signal.

LOW OUT - This output together with
the CROSSOVER knob on the front panel
bi-amps the EBS-GormET.

MONITOR INPUT - This input is useful
for using the EBS-350 GORMET as a
monitor or simply to mix in selected
external sound sources, such as CD units.
This signal is controlled by the
MONITOR knob on the front.

LO-Z INPUT - This input found or the
rear panel is a low impedance instrument
input suitable for connecting e.g. wireless
equipment. When the normal input is
being used, this input is muted.
Note: The phantom power option is not
available on this input.

REMOTE - The remote jack on the rear
panel is used for remotely switching the
built in compressor and to mute the
combo, with the aid of the EBS-GormET
footswitch.
LINE OUT - Denna fullrange utgång kan

REMOTE - Fjärrkontroll-ingången på
baksidan ansluts till EBS-350 GormETs
fotomkopplare för att koppla in/ur den
inbyggda kompressorn och för att stänga av
ljudet i kombon (MUTE).
CHARACTER - The EBS GormET
provides a preshaping filter, character,
which operates independently from the
filter section and BYPASS switch. This
gives the user the opportunity to preshape
the sound before the final processing is
achieved with the filters.
When pressed to it’s inner position, a
boost is achieved in both the bass and treble
ranges, while the midrange is being slightly
cut.
CHARACTER - EBS GormET är försett
med ett preshape filter character, som
arbetar helt oberoende från filtersektionen
och BYPASS omkopplaren. Detta ger
möjlighet till förfiltrering innan
bearbetningen görs i filtersektionen.
I intryck läge ger detta filter ett klart ökat

FILTERS - The filter section contains four
enhanced performance filters:
BRIGHT is an advanced high pass filter
capable of producing bright high treble
timbre, without adding practically any
noise.
BASS is a 'shelving' type 12dB/oct slope
phase compensated bass filter with a wide
gain range.
MIDDLE has an extended frequency
range of 50-3k Hz. This filter facilitates
total control over the mids, with a wide
bandwidth giving a natural and non-
peaking result. In addition, at minimum
setting this filter facilitates a notch
function, suitable for cutting an exact
frequency.
TREBLE is a 'bell' type filter peaking at 5
kHz controlling the higher mids and treble
registers, giving presence and ambiance to
the sound.
The filter section is also equipped with a
BYPASS switch for quick reference back to
the original flat sound.
FILTER - Filterdelen erbjuder dig fyra
högeffektiva filter:
BRIGHT är ett mycket avancerat
effektfilter som tar fram övertoner och
strängklang utan att lägga till störande
brus.
BASS är ett faskompenserat 12dB/-oktav
rent lågpassfilter med mycket stor
förstärkning.
MIDDLE har en bred frekvensinställning
från 50-3k Hz. Detta filter ger en optimal
kontroll över mellanregistret med ett
naturligt ljud utan ”fula” klipptendeser. I
minimiläget ger det här filtret en notch
funktion vilket gör det möjligt att effektivt
kapa oönskade frekvenser.
TREBLE är ett bandpass-filter omkring 5
kHz. som kontrollerar högre mellan- och
diskantregister med ett klart och naturligt
sound som resultat.
Filterdelen är utrustad med en BYPASS
omkopplare för enkel referens till det
ursprungliga ofärgade ljudet.
EFFECTS LOOP - EBS-GormET is pro-
vided with an effect loop for the use of
external units such as box or rack effects.
This loop can be set to operate in two
different modes:
Serial Loop:
When DIP-switch no 4 is in the lower
position the loop is configured for serial
operation. When connecting effects to the
loop, the internal line is bypassed and all
signal passes through the external unit and
back to the EBS-GormET.
Parallel Loop:
When DIP-switch no 4 is in the upper
position the loop is set for parallel
operation, so when connecting an effect to
the effect returns, the signal is equally
mixed between the send signal and the
signal present on the effect return.
The loop puts the external effects after
the filter and compressor sections.

The effect loop also facilitates the option
of phantom power. To activate the phantom
power, set DIP-switch no 5 to lower
position.
Refer to figure below for connection.
EFFECTS LOOP - EBS-GormET har
även en effekt-loop för inkoppling av
externa effekter i box eller rackformat.
Effektloopen kan arbeta i två olika lägen:
Seriell Loop:
När DIP-omkopplare nr 4 är i nerfällt läge
är loopen inställd att arbeta seriellt. När
loopen kopplas till effekter bryts den
interna kopplingen och allt ljud passerar
igenom effekterna och tillbaks till
förstärkaren.
Parallell Loop:
När DIP-omkopplare nr 4 är i uppfällt läge
är loopen ställd i parallellt läge, vilket
betyder att när effekter kopplas till
returerna mixas signalen mellan signalen
på send och returer.

Effektloopen har också möjlighet att
phantommata externa enheter. För att
aktivera phantommatningen, ställ DIP-
omkopplare nr 5 i nerfällt läge.

MONITOR - This knob sets the volume
for the external signal source connected to
the monitor input at the rear panel. This
source can be anything from tape, CD or
DAT recorder to monitor sections from a
mixing console.
The monitor signal is mixed with the
internal signal in the EBS-350 GormET
and is also present for external equipment
at the LINE and LOW outputs.
Note: The balanced output on the rear
panel never contains the signal from the
monitor section

VOLUME - The VOLUME knob controls
all volume in the unit, controlling the
poweramp, LINE and LOW output. The
balanced output (XLR) is not effected by
the setting of this knob.

PHONES - Use this output to connect
standard stereo headphones to the EBS-350
GormET. This output automatically mutes
the internal poweramp/cabinet and line
outputs.

COMP/LIMIT - A low noise com-
pressor/limiter that works fast and
effectively, tightening up the sound and
preventing the bass head from saturating at
peaks when approaching the headroom
limit. A string may be plucked very hard
and fast, without any greater difference in
level or side effects.
The COMP/LIMIT knob sets the
compression ratio, i.e. the signal strength
relation between the input and output. The
higher ratio the more compression.
The LED intensity dynamically indi-
cates the amount of compression during
play.
COMP/LIMIT - Är en lågbrusig och
mycket snabb kompressor/limiter som
utjämnar volymtoppar likt en stötdämpare.
T.ex. så kan en sträng slås an mycket
snabbt och kraftigt utan att nivån förändras
nämnvärt från det lugna spelandet, utan
störande biljud.
COMP/LIMIT ratten bestämmer
kompressionsgraden, d.v.s. förhållandet
in/ut för kompressorn. Ju högre förhållande
desto mer kompression.
Lysdioden indikerar dynamiskt hur
mycket kompressorn arbetar när du spelar.
CROSSOVER - The incorporated active
crossover gives the possibility to bi-amp the
EBS-350 GormET in combination with
other units such as external power-
amps/cabinets or powered cabinets (EBS
AC-315 sub bass cabinet), within the
sweepable frequency range 50-500Hz.

BI-AMP - This switch sets the mode of
operation for the EBS-350 GormET.
In the inner position the combo is
connected to the crossover high filter.
In the outer position the combo is set to
fullrange operation, independently of the
crossover frequency controlled by
CROSSOVER.
Note: The LOW output is not effected by
the setting of the switch.
CROSSOVER - Det inbyggda
delningsfiltret ger möjlighet att aktivt dela
EBS-350 GormET i kombination med t.ex.
externa slutsteg/högtalare eller aktiva
högtalarlådor (EBS AC-315 sub-bas), inom
det svepbara delningsområdet 50-500 Hz.

CROSSOVER.
Not: LOW utgången berörs inte av om-
kopplaren.
