Chapter 4 Getting Start Your Compact Storage Server
The Installation program will start Storage Server Management Wizard
automatically after the installation is finished.
4-1 Auto-search for Storage Server
When the Storage Server Management Wizard starts, all Storage Servers in
your local area network will be listed. Select the Storage Server you want to
configure, and click “Next”. If you do not find the Storage Server you want to
configure, please check the network connection, and then click “Rescan” to
restart searching.
4-2 Login Storage Server
Type the password and click “Next” to login the Storage Server that you want

16
to configure. (The default password is “1234” if you never change it.)
4-3 Quick Setup
After login, click “Quick Setup” and the wizard will guide you through all the
procedures of Storage Server basic settings.
4-4 Build Disks
If this is the first time that the hard disk drive is used in this Storage Server,
select “Auto-Build Disks & Create Shared Folders”. If the hard disk drive was

17
used in the Storage Server before and you want to keep the data in the hard
disk drive, select “Leave Disks Unchanged”. If the hard disk drive was used in
the Storage Server before and you want to erase all data and rebuild the disk,
select “Clear & Rebuild All Disks”.
If you select “Auto-Build Disks & Create Shared Folders” or “Clear & Rebuild
All Disks”, the data in the hard disk drive will be ERASED. The following page
lets you confirm it or abort the erasing operation. If you want to let the Storage
Server build disk for you, please select the file system format to build.
Note: If you will move the USB hard disk to a Windows PC, you should select
FAT32 as file system format. But FAT32 file system has a limitation that the
max size of each file is 4GB. If the USB hard disk is dedicate for the Storage
Server and will not be moved to a Windows PC, EXT2 file system format is
recommended, because it does not have 4GB file size limitation.

18
Click “Next” if you want to continue. Click “Exit” if you want to abort the
configuration.

19
4-5 Configure Password of Administrator
Enter a new administrator’s password for the Storage Server, and click “Next”,
or just click “Next” directly to keep the current password.
Click “Exit” to abort configuration, and all the modification you did will not be
applied.
Parameter Description
New Password 0~30 alphanumeric characters.
Confirm Password
0~30 alphanumeric characters. Must be same
with New Password.

20
4-6 Configure Network Setting
The wizard will detect your network environment and searching for an
available IP address for the Storage Server.
After the detection, the wizard will provide a suggested IP address setting to
you. You can apply it or modify it based on your requirement.
If your PC is configured to obtain an IP address from the DHCP server, the
“Obtain IP address automatically” option is selected as default.
If the IP address of your PC is configured manually, the Storage Server Wizard
will also let you configure IP of the Storage Server manually, and Storage
Server Wizard will search for an available IP address as the recommended
value of “Storage Server IP Address” if the IP address currently used by
Storage Server is not in the same subnet with your computer. Storage Server
Wizard will search all the legal IP addresses of the subnet of your computer
The recommended values ensure you can access the Storage Server from this
computer and IP conflict problem will be avoided. You also can ignore the
