Congratulations on purchasing thisWireless Broadband Router. This
WirelessBroadband Routeris acost-effective IPSharing Router that
enablesmultipleusers to share theInternet through anADSL or cable
modem. Simplyconfigure your Internet connectionsettings in the Wireless
Broadband Router and plug your PC to the LAN port and you're readyto
share files andaccess the Internet.As your networkgrows, you can
connectanother hub orswitch to the router’s LAN ports, allowing you to
easilyexpand your network. The WirelessBroadband Router is embedded
with a IEEE 802.11g/b access point that allows you to build upa wireless
LAN. TheWireless BroadbandRouter provides a totalsolution for the

The WAN “idle timeout” auto-disconnect functionmaynot workdue to
abnormal activities ofsome network applicationsoftware,computer virus
or hacker attacks from the Internet.For example, some softwaresends
networkpackets to the Internetin the background, even when you are not
using the Internet. Soplease turn off your computer when you are not
usingit.This function alsomay not work with someISP.So please make
sure this functioncan workproperlywhen you use this functionin the first
time, especiallyyour ISP charge you bytime used.
Get to know the Broadband Router
Back Panel
The diagram (fig1.0) below shows the broadband router’s backpanel.The
router’s back panel is divided intothree sections, LAN, WAN andReset:

1) Local Area Network (LAN)
The Broadband router’s 4 LAN ports are where you connect your LAN’s
PCs, printerservers, hubs andswitches etc.
2) Wide Area Network (WAN)
The WAN port is thesegmentconnected to your xDSL or Cable modem
and islinked to the Internet.
3) Reset
The Reset buttonallows you to do one of two things.
1) If problemsoccur with your router, press therouter’s reset button
with a penciltip (for less than 4 seconds) and the router will re-boot
itself, keeping your originalconfigurations.
2) If problemspersist or you experience extreme problems or you forgot
your password, pressthe reset button for longer than 4seconds and
the routerwill reset itself to the factorydefaultsettings (warning:
your original configurations will be replaced with the factorydefault
settings)

On the router’s front panel there are LEDlights thatinform you of the
router’s current status.Belowisan explanation of each LEDand its
description.

Getting s tarted
This is a step-by-step instruction on how tostart using the router and get
connected to the Internet.
1) Setup your networkas shownin thesetup diagram above (fig 1.2).
2) You then needto set your LANPC clients sothat itcan obtain anIP
address automatically. All LANclients require an IP address.Just like an
address,it allows LAN clients to find one another. (If you have already
configured your PC to obtain an IP automaticallythen proceed to step3,
page 11)
Configure your PC to obtain an IP address automatically
Bydefault the broadband router’s DHCP is on, this means that you can
obtain an IP address automaticallyonce you’ve configured your PC to
obtain an IP address automatically.This section willshow you how to
configure your PC’s so that it can obtain an IP address automaticallyfor
either Windows 95/98/Me, 2000 or NT operatingsystems. For other
operating systems (Macintosh, Sun, etc.), follow the manufacturer’s
instructions. The followingisa step-by-stepillustration on how to
configure your PC to obtain anIP address automaticallyfor 2a)
Windows 95/98/Me, 2b) Windows XP, 2c) Windows 2000 and 2d)
Windows NT.

2a) Windows 95/98/Me
1. ClicktheStart button andselectSettings, thenclickControlPanel.
The ControlPanel window will appear.
2. Double-clickNetwork icon. The Network window will appear.
3. Checkyour list of NetworkComponents. IfTCP/IP is notinstalled,
clickthe Add button toinstallit. IfTCP/IP is installed, go tostep 6.
4. In the Network Component Type dialog box, selectProtocol andclick
Add button.
5. In the Select NetworkProtocol dialog box,select Microsoftand
TCP/IP and thenclickthe OK button to startinstalling theTCP/IP
protocol.You may need your Windows CD tocomplete the
installation.
6. After installingTCP/IP, go back to the Network dialogbox. Select
TCP/IP from the list of Network Components and thenclickthe
Properties button.
7. Checkeach of the tabsand verifythe followingsettings:
•Bindings: CheckClient for Microsoft Networks and File andprinter
sharing for Microsoft Networks.
•Gatewa y: All fields are blank.
•DNS Configuration: Select Disable DNS.
•WINS Configuration: Select DisableWINS Resolution.
•IP Address: Select Obtain IP address automatically.
8. Reboot the PC. Your PC will now obtain an IP address automatically
from your Broadband Router’s DHCPserver.

Note:Please make sure that the Broadband router’s DHCP server is the
only DHCP server availableon your LAN.
Once you’ve configured your PC to obtainan IP address
automatically, please proceedto Step 3
2b) Windows XP
1. ClicktheStart button andselectSettings, thenclickNetwork
Connections.The Network Connections window will appear.
2. Double-clickLocalArea Connectionicon.TheLocal Area Connection
window will appear.
3. Checkyour list of NetworkComponents.You shouldsee Internet
Protocol [TCP/IP] on your list.Select itand clickthe Properties button.
4. In the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window, select Obtain an
IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically
as shownon the following screen.
5. ClickOK to confirm thesetting. Your PC will now obtain an IP address
automaticallyfrom your Broadband Router’s DHCP server.
Note:Please make sure that the Broadband router’s DHCP server is the
only DHCP server availableon your LAN.
Once you’ve configured your PC to obtainan IP address
automatically, please proceedto Step 3

2c) Windows 2000
1. ClicktheStart button andselectSettings, thenclickControlPanel. The
Control Panel window will appear.
2. Double-clickNetwork and Dial-up Connections icon. In theNetwork
and Dial-up Connection window, double-clickLocal Area Connection
icon.The Local Area Connection window willappear.
3. In the Local Area Connection window,clickthePropertiesbutton.
4. Checkyour list of NetworkComponents.You shouldsee Internet
Protocol [TCP/IP] on your list.Select itand clickthe Properties button.
5. In the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window, select Obtain an
IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically
as shownon the following screen.
6. ClickOK toconfirm thesetting. Your PC will now obtain an IP address
automaticallyfrom your Broadband Router’s DHCP server.
Note:Please make sure that the Broadband router’s DHCP server is the
only DHCP server availableon your LAN.
Once you’ve configured your PC to obtainan IP address
automatically, please proceedto Step 3.

2d) Windows NT
1. ClicktheStart button andselectSettings, thenclickControlPanel. The
Control Panel window will appear.
2. Double-clickNetwork icon. The Network window will appear. Select the
Protocol tab from the Network window.
3. Checkif the TCP/IP Protocol is on your list of Network Protocols. If
TCP/IPisnot installed,clickthe Add button toinstall it now. If TCP/IP
is installed,go to step 5.
4. In the Select NetworkProtocol window, select the TCP/IPProtocol and
clickthe Ok buttonto startinstalling theTCP/IP protocol. You may
need your Windows CD to complete the installation.
5. After you installTCP/IP, go backto the Network window. Select
TCP/IP from the list of Network Protocols and then clickthe Properties
button.
6. Checkeach of the tabsand verifythe followingsettings:
•IP Address: Select Obtain anIP address froma DHCP server.
•DNS: Let all fields are blank.
•WINS:Let all fieldsare blank.
•Routing: Let all fields are blank.
7. ClickOK toconfirm thesetting. Your PC will now obtain an IP address
automaticallyfrom your Broadband Router’s DHCP server.

Note:Please make sure that the Broadband router’s DHCP server is
the only DHCP server available on your LAN.
Once you’ve configured your PC to obtainan IP address automatically,
pleaseproceed toStep 3.
3) Once you have configured your PCs to obtain an IPaddress
automatically, the router’s DHCP server willautomaticallygive your
LAN clients an IP address. Bydefaultthe Broadband Router’s DHCP
server is enabled so that you can obtain an IP address automatically.
To see if you have obtained an IP address, see AppendixA.
Note: Please makesure that theBroadband router’s DHCPserver is
the only DHCP server available on your LAN. If thereis another
DHCP on your network, then you’ll needto switch one of the
DHCP servers off. (To disable theBroadband router’s DHCP
server see chapter 2 LAN Port)
4) Once your PC has obtained an IP address from your router, enter the
default IPaddress 192.168.2.1 (broadband router’s IP address) into
your PC’s web browser andpress <enter>
5) The loginscreen below willappear. Enter the “User Name” and
“Password” and thenclick<OK> to login.
Note: By default theuser nameis “admin” and the passwordis “1234”.
For securityreasons itis recommendedthat you change the
password as soon as possible (in Generalsetup/system/password,
see chapter 2)

6) The HOME page screen below will appear.The Home Pageis divided
into four sections, Quick Setup Wizard, General Setup, Status Info.
and System Tools.
Quick Setup Wizard (Chapter 1)
Select your Internet connectiontype and theninput theconfigurations
needed to connectto your Internet Service Provider (ISP).
General Setup (Chapter 2)
This section contains configurations for theBroadband router’s advance
functions such as: Address Mapping, Virtual Server, Access Control,
Hacker AttackPrevention, DMZ, Special applications and other functions
to meet your LAN requirements.
Status Info. (Chapter 3)
In thissection youcan see the Broadband router's systeminformation,
Internet Connection, Device Status, System Log, SecurityLog and DHCP
client information.
System Tools (Chapter 4)
This section contains the broadband router’sTools -Tools include
Configuration tools, Firmware upgrade and Reset. Configuration tools
allow you to Backup (save), Restore, orRestore to Factory Default
configuration foryour Broadband router.The Firmware upgrade tool allows
you to upgrade your Broadband router's firmware.The RESET tool allows
you to reset your Broadband router.

7) Clickon Quick Setup Wizard (see chapter 1) to startconfiguring
settings required by your ISPso that you can start accessing the
Internet. The other sections (General Setup,Status Information and
Tools) do not need to beconfigured unless you wish to
implement/monitor more advance features/information.
Select the section (QuickSetupWizard, General Setup, Status
Information andTools) you wish toconfigure and proceedto the
corresponding chapter. Use theselections on the web management’s
top right hand page (see below) to navigatearound the web-based
management User Interface.
Chapter 1
Quick Setup
The QuickSetup section is designed to get you using the broadband router
as quicklyas possible. In the QuickSetup you are required to fill in onlythe
informationnecessaryto access the Internet. Once you clickon the Quick
Setup Wizard in the HOME page, you shouldsee thescreen below.
Step 1) Time Zone
TheTime Zone allows your router to baseitstime on the settings
configured here, this will affect functions such as Log entries and Firewall
settings.

Parameter Description
Set Time Zone Select the time zone of thecountryyou are
currently in.The router will set its time
based on your selection.
TimeServer Address You canmanuallyassign timeserver
address if the default time server dose not
work.
Enable Daylight Savings The router canalso take Daylightsavings
into account. If you wish to use this function,
you must check/tickthe enable boxto
enable your daylightsavingconfiguration
(below).
Start Daylight SavingsTime Select the periodin which you wish tostart
daylight SavingsTime
End DaylightSavingsTime Select the periodin which you wish to end
daylight SavingsTime
Clickon NEXTto proceed to the next page (step 2) BroadbandType.
Step 2) Broadband Type
In thissection you have toselect one offour types ofconnections that you
will be using toconnect your broadband router’s WAN port to your ISP
(see screenbelow).
Note: Different ISP’s require different methods ofconnectingto the
Internet, please checkwith your ISP as to the type ofconnectionit requires.

1.1 Cable Modem Your ISP will automaticallygive you an IP
address
1.2 Fixed-IP xDSL Your ISP has given you an IP address already
1.3 PPPoE YourISP requires you to use a Point-to-Point
Protocol over Ethernet (PPPoE) connection.
1.4 PPTP Your ISP requires you to use a Point-to-Point
TunnelingProtocol (PPTP) connection.
1.5 L2TP Your ISP requires you to use a Layer Two
TunnelingProtocol (L2TP) connection.
1.6 Telstra Big Pond This Protocol onlyused forAustralia’s ISP
connection.
Clickon oneof the WAN type and thenproceed to the manual’s relevant
sub-section (1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4,1.5 or 1.6). Clickon Back to return to the
previous screen.

1.1 Cable Modem
Choose Cable Modem if your ISP will automaticallygive you an IP address.
Some ISP’smayalsorequire that you fillin additionalinformationsuch as
Host Name and MAC address (seescreen below).
Note: The Host Name and MAC address sectionis optional and youcan
skip this section if your ISPdoes not require these settings for you to
connectto the Internet.
Parameters Description
Host Name If your ISP requires a Host Name, typein the host
name provided byyour ISP, otherwise leaveit blank if
your ISP does not require a HostName.
MAC Address Your ISP mayrequire a particular MAC addressin
order for you to connect to the Internet.This MAC
address is thePC’s MAC address that your ISP had
originallyconnected your Internet connection to.Type
in this MAC addressin thissection or use the “Clone
MAC Address” button to replace the WAN MAC
address with the MAC address of thatPC (you have to
be using that PC fortheClone MAC Address button to
work). To find out thePC’s MAC addresssee Appendix
A. (see Glossaryfor an explanation on MAC address)

1.2 Fixed-IP xDSL
Select Fixed-IP xDSL if your ISP has given you a specific IPaddress for
you to use. Your ISP should provide all the information required in this
section.
Parameters Description
IP This is the IP address that your ISP has
given you.
Gateway IP This is the ISP’s IP addressgateway
DNS This is the ISP’s DNSserver IP address
Subnet Mask Enter the SubnetMaskprovided by
your ISP
(e.g. 255.255.255.0)

Congratulations! You have completed theconfiguration forthe Fixed-IP x
DSL connection. Youcanstart using the router now,if you wish to use
some of theadvance features supported bythis router seechapter 2, 3, 4.
1.3 PPPoE
Select PPPoEif your ISP requires the PPPoEprotocol to connect you to
the Internet. Your ISP should provide all the information required in this
section.
Parameter Description
User Name Enter the User Name providedbyyour ISP for the
PPPoEconnection
Password Enter the Password provided byyour ISP for the
PPPoEconnection
Service Name This is optional.Enter the Service nameshould your
ISP requiresit, otherwiseleave it blank.
MTU This is optional.Youcan specifythe maximumsize of
your transmission packet to the Internet. Leave it as it
is ifyou to not wish toset a maximum packetsize.

Connection Type If you select “Continuous”, the routerwill always
connectto the ISP. If theWANline breaks down and
links again, the routerwillauto-reconnect to the ISP.
If you select “Connect On Demand”, the router will
auto-connect to the ISP whensomeone want to use the
Internet and keep connected until the WAN idle timeout.
The router willclose theWAN connectionif the time
period that no one is using the Internet exceeds the
“Idle Time”.
If you select “Manual”, the routerwill connect to ISP
onlywhen you click“Connect” manuallyfrom the Web
user interface. The WANconnection will not
disconnected due to the idle timeout. If theWANline
breaks down and latter links again, the router will not
auto-connect to the ISP.
Idle Time You canspecifyan idle time threshold (minutes) for the
WAN port. This means if nopacketshave been sent
(no one using the Internet) duringthis specified period,
the routerwillautomaticallydisconnect theconnection
with your ISP.
Note: This “idle timeout” function maynot work due to
abnormal activities ofsome networkapplication
software, computer virus or hacker attacks from the
Internet. For example, somesoftwaresends network
packets to theInternet in the background, even when
you are not using the Internet. Soplease turn off your
computer when you are not usingit.This functionalso
maynot work with some ISP. So please make sure this
functioncan workproperlywhen you use this function
in the first time, especiallyyour ISPcharge you by time
used.
Click<OK> when you have finished theconfigurationabove.
Congratulations! You have completed theconfiguration forthePPPoE
connection.You can start using the router now, if you wish to usesome of
the advance features supported bythis routersee chapter 2, 3, 4.
1.4 PPTP
Select PPTPif your ISP requires thePPTP protocol toconnect you to the
Internet. Your ISPshould provide all theinformation required in this section.
