Bydefaultthebroadbandrouter sDHCPison,thismeansthatyoucanobtainanIPaddressautomaticallyonceyouve
configuredyourPCtoobtainan IPaddress automatically.Thissection willshowyou howtoconfigureyourPCssothat
itcan obtainanIPaddress automaticallyforeitherWindows95/98/Me,2000 orNToperating systems.Forother
operatingsystems(Macintosh,Sun,etc.),followthemanufacturer sinstructions.Thefollowingisastep-by-step

1. Click the Start buttonandselect Settings, thenclick ControlPanel. The ControlPanel windowwillappear.
2. Double-click Network icon.The Network windowwillappear.
3. Check yourlistofNetworkComponents.IfTCP/IPisnotinstalled,clickthe Add buttontoinstallit. IfTCP/IPis
installed,go to step6.
4. Inthe NetworkComponentType dialog box, select Protocol and click Add button.
5. Inthe SelectNetworkProtocol dialogbox,select Microsoft and TCP/IP and thenclickthe OK buttontostart
installingtheTCP/IPprotocol.YoumayneedyourWindowsCD tocompletetheinstallation.
6. AfterinstallingTCP/IP,gobacktothe Network dialogbox.Select TCP/IP fromthelistof NetworkComponents and

ConnectionType
Ifyouselect “Continuous”, therouterwill alwaysconnecttothe ISP.IftheWANline
breaks downandlinksagain, therouterwill auto-reconnecttotheISP.
Ifyouselect “Connect OnDemand”,therouterwillauto-connect totheISP when
someonewantstousetheInternet and keepconnecteduntiltheWANidletimeout.The
routerwillclosetheWANconnectionifthetimeperiod thatnooneisusingtheInternet
exceedsthe “IdleTime”.
Ifyouselect “Manual”,therouterwillconnecttoISP onlywhenyouclick “Connect”
manuallyfromtheWeb userinterface. TheWANconnection will notdisconnect dueto
theidletimeout.If theWANlinebreaks downand latterlinksagain,therouterwillnot
auto-connecttotheISP.
IdleTime
You canspecifyanidletimethreshold(minutes)fortheWANport. Thismeansif no
packetshavebeensent (nooneusingtheInternet)duringthisspecifiedperiod,the
routerwillautomaticallydisconnecttheconnectionwithyourISP.
Note: This “idletimeout”functionmaynotworkduetoabnormalactivitiesofsome
