Commissioning the EFOY lithium battery
Page 38
3Commissioning the EFOY lithium battery
3.1 Installing the EFOY lithium battery
•The EFOY lithium battery must always be adequately secured. If necessary,
commercially available accessories should be used (e.g., battery holder with belt
strap).
•A (sponge) rubber mat is recommended as an underlay.
•You can install the battery either upright (positive and negative poles are on top) or
horizontally (positive and negative poles are on the side).
•It is necessary to use a suitable electrical fuse.
3.2 Initial commissioning
The EFOY lithium battery has three modes
oOperating mode
oSleep mode
oDeep discharge protection
The battery is in sleep mode when delivered. The battery can be brought into operating
mode either by using a charger or with the help of the supplied activator. The activator
may need to be plugged into terminal 4 and lights up green as soon as the battery is in
operating mode. This process can take up to five minutes.
Be sure to keep the activator in a safe place. Completely charge the EFOY lithium
battery prior to first use (SOC 100%).

Commissioning the EFOY lithium battery
Page 39
3.3 Connecting the charging and load cables
•Always use cables with the appropriate cross-sections.
•First connect the charging cable to the EFOY fuel cell and then any communications
cables. Always connect the positive pole to the battery first.
•Tighten the M8 screws or the adapter screws provided with a torque of 10 to 15 Nm.
The diameters of the adapter screws differ slightly:
- The adapter screw with the smaller diameter is for the positive pole
- The adapter screw with the larger diameter is for the negative pole
3.4 Important information
The EFOY lithium battery may not be charged under the following conditions. Contact
either the EFOY hotline or your service partner.
•The battery is damaged.
Triggering a circuit breaker:
•Ensure that the discharge currents (continuous, five minutes and five seconds) are
no higher than specified in the data sheet. Otherwise an internal, reversible circuit
breaker will be triggered in the battery and the battery will switch off for approx. one
minute. It then returns to the operating mode when the discharge currents are
within the allowable limits.
If the battery voltage falls below 10.5 V, the battery automatically enters deep discharge
protection mode. In this mode, all functions are switched off to minimize power use. The
battery can only be returned to the operating mode by charging. This process may take
some time.
3.5 Connecting an optional EFOY Bluetooth Adapter BT2
You can purchase an EFOY Bluetooth Adapter BT2 which, in conjunction with a free app,
offers useful operating options and clear information.
•You can operate the EFOY lithium battery via the EFOY App.
•The EFOY App is available free in the App Store and in Google Play. The myEFOY
function of the EFOY App is available from Android version 4.4 and iOS 8.0 for
Bluetooth 4.0-capable devices. All important information about the EFOY lithium

3.6 Connecting to an EFOY Fuel Cell
An EFOY fuel cell is the best charger for the EFOY lithium battery and significantly
extends the service life of the battery.
The latest generation of EFOY fuel cells (EFOY 80/150 and EFOY Pro 900/1800/2800) can
optimally charge the battery even at sub-zero temperatures and communicate with the
battery. The state of charge display (SOC) of the battery in connection with these fuel
cells is much more accurate than with conventional LiFePO4batteries. Information on
installing and connecting the EFOY fuel cells can be found in the October 2020 revision
of the EFOY fuel cell mounting instructions at www.efoy.com.
Use the charging cable provided in the EFOY fuel cell product contents. Two optionally
available connecting kits, which consist of a data cable, a port doubler RJ12 and an SFC
Bus End Piece, are available to connect the battery to the EFOY fuel cell. One connecting
kit includes a 3 m long data cable and the other a 10 m long data cable.
The data connection between an EFOY fuel cell and an EFOY battery is provided by the
SFC Bus. An SFC Bus End Piece must be inserted into one of the two data RJ12
connectors on the battery at the end of this SFC Bus connection.

Commissioning the EFOY lithium battery
Page 42
The activator for the EFOY lithium battery and the SFC Bus End Piece are
similar in appearance. Both components are labeled for differentiation.
Ensure that you do not mix the two components.
Connect the cables in the following sequence to connect the EFOY fuel cell to the EFOY
lithium battery:
1. Push the large plug connector with the four individual cables into the fuel cell
2. Then connect the positive pole to the battery first, followed by the negative pole
3. Connect the data cable and, if available, the EFOY Bluetooth Adapter BT2 to the
EFOY Fuel Cell via the port doubler
4. Plug the data cable and SFC Bus End Piece into the two RJ12 inputs on the battery.
The cable and end piece are not allocated to the two RJ 12 inputs, and therefore
this is irrelevant
The EFOY App provides you with information from both the EFOY Fuel Cell
and the EFOY Lithium Battery. To do this, the EFOY Bluetooth Adapter BT2
must be plugged into the EFOY Fuel Cell (see picture below).

Commissioning the EFOY lithium battery
Page 43
3.7 Connecting several EFOY batteries
•EFOY lithium batteries can be connected in parallel.
•Ensure they are wired correctly (see figure below).
•Connecting the batteries in series leads to defects and is not permitted.

Servicing the EFOY lithium battery
Page 44
4Servicing the EFOY lithium battery
4.1 Replacing and cleaning the battery
If present, disconnect the data cable and then the charging cable: the negative
pole first.
Do not reconnect the charging cable until you have replaced the battery or are
finished working on the battery.
4.2 Place the battery in sleep mode
The EFOY lithium battery can be put into the sleep mode using the EFOY App and
optionally available EFOY Bluetooth Adapter BT2 for storage or transportation purposes.
In this mode, power consumption is minimal, and the state of charge (SOC) only falls
very slowly. No communication takes place. The battery can be returned to the
operating mode from the sleep mode using the activator.
