Operation
KEEN DIMMING
The Keen unit is utilizing the 0-10V control dimming
method. The unit is fixed on the back face of the mirror.
Certain models using Keen are controlled internal of
the unit, making the need for re-wiring from/to a switch
unnecessary. Other models may require connection to
an external switch.
External dimmer are not supported. Use of external
dimmers may damage the Keen electronics.
The unit has 3 or 4 button configurations,
dependent on what type of lighting system
is requested. Follow the Scenario
Document information for further details.
Figure 1 Four Button (K3)
Figure 2 Three Button (K1, K2)
On every power up, the Keen unit will dim the lamps to
about 80% of total power. The unit can be dimmed up
or down after initial start. If no interaction occurs within
60 minutes, the unit will dim itself down to
approximately 43% of full power.
The Keen unit also includes a Night Light feature.
When the Night Light button is pressed, the buttons will
glow white, while having the actual night light button
glow blue in the center in addition to a small LED
nightlight emitting light. The light will be either external
of the chassis or internal, depending on the mirror frost
pattern. While operating Keen, the lamping will either
be turned completely off or turned to its lowest
dimming level. Any button will awake the unit from the
Night Light mode to its last set state (with exception of
the power button, this will turn the unit off).
Certain models of the Keen feature may include a
separate power button. When the power button is
pressed, it will turn off all power to the lamping for the
unit. This does not turn off all power, just power to the
lamping. The Keen unit will be continuously on during
this cycle.
In switched circumstances, when power is turned back
on to the unit it will reset itself and start at 80% of total
power.
Installation
WIRING INTO THE
LIGHTING FIXTURE
Turn power off to the location. Use 12-
18 AWG wire and following these instructions:

CONNECTING THE KEEN UNIT
The Keen unit is pre-installed on the mirror at our
factory. We suggest not removing the circuit board
component..
There are 4 total connections on the Keen unit.
1. 12V Power input. 5.5 mm x 2.1 mm pin DC Plug
2. 12V Switching Output. 2-pin JST Connector
3. 12V Additional Nightlight Output. 2-pin JST
Connector
4. 0-10V Dimming Output. 2-pin JST Connector
There may be a grounding tab to assist with the touch
capacitance of the unit. Do not remove or alter this tab
or the touch elements.
Keen is powered from a 12V power source included in
the lighted unit. Connect the DC jack into the port on
the Keen unit.
There are up to three sets of output wiring coming from
the unit. The version of Keen you have selected will
indicate what sets of wiring will provided exiting the
unit. These sets should be color coordinated to assist
with final assembly.
For each version of Keen, there will be the Gray and
Violet wiring set. This set controls the 0-10V dimming
portion of the Keen. The connectors coming off of the
Keen unit (on mirror) will mate with the connectors
coming from the chassis. Plug these connectors in until
you hear a click noise, this will indicate proper
connection.
In versions K2 and K3 of the Keen product, there will
be an extra set of connector wiring included in the unit.
This will control an internal relay switching the power to
the Ballast/Driver on or off. Plug these connectors in
until you hear an audible click..
*See item below about Fluorescent Lamp Seasoning*

In the case of an external Night Light application, plug
the 3 port connectors from the 12V Night Light.
WIRING
A relay is an electrically operated switch.
A Solid State relay is an electronic
switching device that switches states
when and external voltage is applied
along its junctions.
The Keen unit has a 12V output that can activate the
relay on or off. This function is triggered at every night
light button press or at the power button press. The
purpose of the Relay is to shut off power to the
ballast(s)/ driver(s) to emulate a true night light
function.
K1 (No relay)
1. Connect the DC power to the Keen unit
2. Do not connect the Violet and Grey wires
3. The unit should be on at full power, Connect the
Violet and Grey wires after the 12 Hour time
period.
K2/K3 (Relay)
1. Connect the DC Power to the Keen unit.
2. Connect the Red and Black wires to the Keen Unit.
3. Do not connect the Violet and Grey wires
4. The unit should be on at full power, Connect the
Violet and Grey wires after the 12 Hour time
period.
If you are using the Keen product in an LED
LIGHTING APPLICATION, there is no need to follow
these steps.
FLUORESCENT LAMP SEASONING
Seasoning fluorescent lamping helps to reduce
flickering and other lamp defects. We suggest (in
accordance to NEMA LSD-23-2010) leaving lamping at
full power for a minimum of 12 hours. Since the Keen
unit automatically dims to fewer than 50% after an
hour of no interaction, there is a special order of
operations to help season the lamping.
