Getting Started
This is a brief d cument designed t quickly get y u started setting up y ur valve manif ld with an integrated
Numatics’ G2-2 DeviceNet c mmunicati n n de. Please n te that this d cument is n t intended t replace
the G2-2 DeviceNet Technical Manual which includes m re detailed technical inf rmati n. The full technical
manual can be f und n the Numatics website at www.numatics.c m r can be rdered by calling
248-887-4111.
1) Initial Unpacking and Inspecti n

Bel w is an example f a 2012 series valve manif ld. This fieldbus manif ld series is capable f addressing a
t tal f 224 I/O. The manif ld can be viewed as having tw secti ns t it, the Valve Side and the Discrete I/O
Side
. The Valve Side supp rts a maximum f 32 s len id c ils and the Discrete I/O Side supp rts a
maximum f 6 m dules t taling 192 Outputs, 96 Inputs, r vari us c mbinati ns. The c mmunicati n
m dule has tw c nnect rs: a 5-pin c mmunicati n c nnect r and a 4-pin p wer c nnect r. Pin- uts f r
these, al ng with I/O c nnect rs, are labeled n the side f the respective m dules.

The MCM is the m dule that all ws the user t manually set baud rate, MAC ID and ther user definable
pti ns, with ut the need f r s ftware c nfigurati n. If s ftware c nfigurati n is preferred, this m dule is n t
necessary. The MCM c nsists f tw DIP switch sets (SW1 and SW2) and tw r tary switches (SW3 and SW4).

The manual I/O size selecti n pti n all ws the user t
select the I/O (Rx & Tx) values with ut physically having

4) Self-Test M de
An internal diagn stic t l can als be enabled using the pti nal MCM m dule. This t l all ws the user t
c nfirm that all f the Inputs and Outputs n the manif ld are fully functi nal with ut needing a netw rk
c nnecti n r c ntr ller. There are tw test m des that the user can ch se using SW2-8. The “Output” test
m de tests all the utputs by sequentially turning them ON ne at a time. The “Input/Output” test m de
tests the inputs by causing all f the utputs t t ggle between even and dd values when any input is made.
T use the Self-Test M de, the user must first set s me initial c nditi ns using the MCM m dule. F ll w
these steps t btain the needed initial c nditi n settings. Remember t rem ve p wer fr m the manif ld
bef re making changes t the MCM when setting these initial c nditi ns.
1) Disc nnect p wer and air fr m the manif ld!
2) Rec rd current MCM settings.
3) Set the r tary switches t 99 (SW3 and SW4).
4) Make sure that SW1-5, SW2-1, and SW2-7 are in the “ON” p siti n.
5) Select the desired test m de with SW2-8 (see table bel w)

6) Make sure that all f the ther switches are in the “OFF” p siti n.
The initial c nditi ns are n w set. T enable the Self-Test M de, apply p wer t the manif ld and make the
f ll wing changes while the m dule status LED is blinking (within 5 t 10 sec nds f p wer up):
1) Set SW2-6 t the “ON” p siti n.
2) Set SW2-7 t the “OFF” p siti n.
Once Self-Test M de is enabled, the m dule status LED will flash red/green until Self-Test M de is
terminated by rem ving p wer t the unit. Remember t return the MCM settings t their riginal settings t
return the c mmunicati n n de t n rmal perati n.

Self-Test M de t prevent unwanted m ti n.

“ATTENTION: CONNECT TO EARTH GROUND FOR PROPER GROUNDING OF UNIT”, label
attached t the chassis gr und c nnecti n p int n the G2-2 series c mmunicati n n de h using. This label
als p ints ut where the gr unding guidelines can be f und.
• Pr per gr unding will alleviate and prevent many intermittent pr blems
with netw rk c mmunicati n.
• When gr unding t a machine frame, please ensure that the machine frame
itself is already pr perly gr unded.
• Better gr unding can be achieved when larger diameter (l wer gauge) wire
is used.
