MONTAGE DER TIEFMITTELTÖNER
Der erste Schritt einer erfolgreichen Installation ist, die akustisch optimalen Einbauplätze aus-
zuwählen. Berücksichtigen Sie für die Tiefmitteltöner die vom Hersteller des Autos vorgesehenen
Einbauplätze, oder besorgen Sie sich stabile fahrzeugspezifische Doorboards aus MDF, um
die Tiefmitteltöner möglichst stabil montieren zu können.
Entfernen Sie die Originalabdeckungen aus Kunststoff (Türe oder Fussraum) und entfernen Sie
die Originallautsprecher. Manchmal ist es notwendig, die Türverkleidungen komplett zu de-
montieren, da die Montageöffnungen für die Tiefmitteltöner nur so vollständig zugänglich sind.
Ist dies der Fall, kaufen Sie unbedingt vorher bei Ihrem Kfz-Händler einige zusätzliche Befesti-
gungsclips aus Kunststoff, für die Remontage der Türverkleidungen.
Überprüfen Sie die, ob die vorhandene Einbautiefe für den Tiefmitteltöner am vorgesehenen Ein-
bauort (in den Vordertüren) ausreicht. Dies muss bei geöffneten Seitenfenstern erfolgen!
Schliessen Sie die beiden Lautsprecherkabel an den Schraubklemmen des Tiefmitteltöners an.
Beachten Sie die Polung der Kabel beim Anschluss!
Befestigen Sie nun die Tiefmitteltöner in den Lautsprecheröffnungen. Achten Sie auf einen per-
fekt dichten und satten Sitz des Tiefmitteltöners. Luftdichter Sitz ist für eine gute Bass- und Kick-
Bass-Wiedergabe der Systeme entscheidend!
Wenn die Tiefmitteltöner dieses Komponentensystems nicht in den Werksöffnungen montiert
werden, können die mitgelieferten Abdeckgitter verwendet werden. Montage wie folgt:
Benutzen Sie den Plastikring als Unterlage für den Tiefmitteltöner. Schrauben Sie den Lautspre-
cher auf dem Ring aufliegend in der Einbauöffnung fest. Drücken Sie das Abdeckgitter in die um-
laufende Führungsnut des Plastikringes (für optimalen Halt des Gitters verwenden Sie die bei-
gelegten schwarzen Knetmassestückchen).

MONTAGE DER HOCHTÖNER
Die Plazierung der Hochtöner entscheidet zu einem gewissen Grad über die klanglichen Eigen-
schaften des Gesamtsystems. Unterschiedliche Montagehöhen und Orte ergeben unterschiedli-
che Pegel im Hochtonbereich. Dieser Pegel kann später auf der Weiche per Jumper angepasst
werden. Allerdings kompensiert dies nur die Lautstärkeunterschiede und nicht Wegstreckendif-
ferenzen. Die räumliche Wiedergabe ist stark abhängig von den Wegstrecken der einzelnen
Lautsprechern zum Kopf des Hörers. D.h. der Montageort der Hochtöner hat starken Einfluss auf
den Gesamtklang! Wer hier auf ein Optimum wert legt, kommt um eigene Experimente nicht her-
um. Die Hochtöner können zum Beispiel – für Hörtests – provisorisch mit Doppelklebeband be-
festigt werden.
Für besten Klang empfehlen sich z.B. die Mitte der A-Säule – oder auch ganz vorne und so hoch
wie möglich in der Türe. Je nach Fahrzeug sind auch die Spiegeldreiecke gut geeignet.
Anmerkung:
Beide Hochtöner sollten immer zueinander gerichtet montiert werden, sie sollten sich „ins Auge“
schauen. Die Folge von zum Hörer hin anwinkelten Hochtönern ist das „Side-Biasing“, d.h. es
entsteht keine imaginäre Bühne auf dem Armaturenbrett. Stattdessen scheint die Musik direkt aus
den Türen zu kommen – oder noch schlimmer – die Stimmen „kleben“ am Hochtöner fest....
Aufbaumontage des Tweeters
Der Hochtöner für Aufbaumontage besteht aus zwei Teilen, dem flachen Montage/Ring aus
Aluminium und der eigentlichen Hochtöner-Systemeinheit. Beide Einheiten werden durch einen
Bajonettverschluss miteinander verbunden.
Markieren und bohren Sie drei Löcher: Ein Loch für die Durchführung des Hochtöner-Kabels durch
die Montageunterlage, zwei weitere kleine für die Befestigung des Alu-Rings. Der Ring kann
als Schablone zum Anzeichnen verwendet werden. Schrauben Sie den Aluring mit den selbst-
schneidenden Flachkopfschrauben auf der Unterlage fest und führen Sie das Hochtöner-Kabel
durch die verbleibende etwas grössere Bohrung durch. Nun kann das ca. 1m lange Verlänge-
rungskabel hinten an das Hochtonkabel angesteckt werden. Der Hochtöner lässt sich nun mit leich-
tem Druck auf die montierte Basisplatte mit einer Drehung im Gegen-Uhrzeigersinn einrasten.
Vollversenkte Montage des Tweeters
Für die vollversenkte Montage muß eine Tiefe von mindestens 17 mm hinter der Montageober-
fläche zur Verfügung stehen. Der Hochtöner wird nun erst zerlegt, d.h. die Basisplatte wird ent-
fernt.
Mit einem Kernbohrer wird ein Loch von exakt 49mm Innendurchmesser gebohrt. Der grosse
Cup-förmige Montageadapter wird mit dem Bügel und den beiliegenden metrischen M3 Schrau-
ben in der Montageoberfläche festgeschraubt. Nach dem Einfädeln des Zuführungskabels durch
den montierten Adapter, kann die Hochtoneinheit (ohne Montagering) mit einer Drehung im Ge-
gen-Uhrzeigersinn im Cup-Adapter fixiert werden.

ANSCHLUSS UND MONTAGE DER FREQUENZWEICHEN
Die Frequenzweichen können in einem vorhandenen Hohlraum in der Türe, in der Türverklei-
dung selber, oder auch in den Seitenteilen des Fussraums (z.B. unter dem Teppich) untergebracht
oder verstaut werden. Vermeiden Sie Orte mit starker Tropfwasser-Einwirkung. Schliessen Sie
die Lautsprecher Zuleitungskabel von den Tiefmitteltönern, den Hochtönern und vom Verstärker
an die Frequenzweiche an. Beachten Sie die angegebenen Polaritäten an den Terminals und Ka-
beln! Alle Lautsprecherkabel müssen in Phase angeschlossen werden, d.h. Plus auf Plus, Minus
auf Minus. Die Wiedergabequalität leidet sonst dramatisch, diffuse Räumlichkeit oder quasi Bass-
freiheit sind die Folge (z.B. bei verpoltem Anschluss von einem Tiefmitteltöner!).
Es dürfen – versuchsweise – beide Hochtöner an der Frequenzweiche umgepolt angeschlossen
werden. Ein kurzer Klangvergleich der beiden Anschluss-Optionen – BEIDE Hochtöner korrekt
gepolt, oder BEIDE umgepolt – zeigt sofort, welche Polung besser klingt.
ANPASSUNG DES HOCHTONPEGELS
Auf der Frequenzweichen-Platine ist bei entferntem Deckel ein kleiner Jumper mit vier möglichen
Steckpositionen erkennbar: 0 dB / -1dB / -2dB / -3dB
Mit diesem Jumper kann der Hochtonpegel – je nach Einbauposition des Hochtöners und den
persönlichen Vorlieben – feinfühlig eingestellt werden.
Achtung: Der Jumper für den Hochtonpegel muss auf beiden Weichen gleich gesetzt werden!
Nach erfolgter Pegeleinstellung kann nun die Frequenzweiche am vorgesehenen Ort befestigt
werden. Nun können alle Abdeckungen, Türverkleidungen etc. wieder montiert werden. Der Ein-
bau ist beendet.

ERSTER PROBELAUF
Schalten Sie das Head-Unit ein und erhöhen Sie langsam die Lautstärke. Achten Sie auf erhöh-
te Verzerrungen, scheppern oder sonstige Störgeräusche. Klingt das System diffus, oder fast bass-
frei, liegt dies oft an einer Verpolung von einem oder gar mehreren Lautsprechern. Überprüfen
Sie alle Anschlüsse an der Frequenzweiche (und ev. an der Endstufe) erneut. Lässt sich das Pro-
blem nicht finden und beheben, suchen Sie unbedingt Ihren EMPHASER Händler auf! Bei falsch
angeschlossenen Lautsprechern (z.B. Höchtöner am Mid/Woofer Ausgang der Weiche ange-
schlossen) kann das System schon bei sehr kleinen Eingangs-Leistungen schaden nehmen.

MID/WOOFER MOUNTING
The first step is to choose the best mounting location for the tweeters and mid/woofers of your
component speaker system. If you can not mount the mid/woofers to an existing factory cutout,
a good alternative is to buy a set of car specific doorboards made of MDF, so the mid/woofers
can be mounted to a solid surface. Otherwise you should consult your EMPHASER dealer and
ask for further assistance.
Remove the factory grilles of the door and remove the factory installed speakers. On some oc-
casions, you will have to remove the complete doorpanels, to gain full access to the speaker
mounting platforms. If this is the case, you should also buy some spare plastic clips for remoun-
ting the panels, as these clips tend to break easily. A tight fit of the panels is important, becau-
se the doorpanel may strongly vibrate and distort the sound of your speaker system when not
fixed properly. Before you proceed to mount the EMPHASER mid/woofers, check the installati-
on depth in the front doors of your car once more. The windows must be down when you hold
the mid/woofers in place. Insufficient mounting depth leads to impaired window function!
Now connect the speaker cable to the mid/woofer unit and route the speaker cable to the loca-
tion where the crossover will be installed. Pay attention to the polarity imprints, when connecting
the wire to the mid/woofer terminal or crossover!
When you tighten the mounting screws to fix the mid/woofer basket, be sure to go for an airtight
fit of the basket rim to the mounting surface. Once this is done, you can reinstall the factory pla-
stic grilles or the panels of the doors.
If you have chosen another location for your woofer/midrange drivers (other than factory cut-
out), you may also want to install the speaker protection grilles: Mount the mid/woofer directly
onto the plastic-injection trim ring using the provided screws and metal clips. Fix the metal-gril-
le to the plastic trim ring, and for a stronger fit of the grille, you can apply some of the black „che-
wing gum“ pieces contained in the mounting accessory bag.

TWEETER MOUNTING
The tweeter mounting location has a strong influence on the staging capabilities of your com-
ponent system. Depending in which spot you fix your tweeters, you will also notice different vo-
lume levels in the treble region. The tweeter level can be adjusted by a jumper on the pcb bord,
to compensate for different places of tweeter mounting. Nevertheless, tweeter positioning does
affect the sound reproduction and staging quality of your component set to quite an extent, so
care must be taken to find a suitable place for the tweeters.
To determine the best tweeter location in your vehicle, it will be unavoidable to carry out short
listening tests, with the tweeters provisionally fixed in different places. Double sided self adhesi-
ve tape can be used for this purpose.
Recommended places for mounting the tweeters are the A-pillars, the window triangles or else,
as much up and in front as possible.
Attention: Both tweeters are supposed to aim at each other. A direct “on-axis” installation, with
tweeters pointing at the listener is not recommended. Tweeters facing the listener are mainly
responsible for the “side-biasing” effect, where a proper staging of the sound on the dashbo-
ard can not be achieved, and the music seems to stick to the speakers.
Flat Surface Mounting
Two parts are needed for flat surface mounting. The main tweeter unit and the flat aluminum ring.
Mark and drill holes where you want to fix the tweeter. Three holes are necessary, one main hole
for the cable routing and two small pilot holes for fixing the base. You’ll need 3mm and 6mm drill
bits and a power drill. After drilling, mount the flat adapter ring to the panel, using the two self
tapping flathead screws. Feed the tweeter wire through the remaining hole and connect the twee-
ter extension wire to the main tweeter leads on the backside of the panel. Now you can place the
tweeter over the adaptor ring, gently press the tweeter down and turn it counter-clockwise, to lock
it in place.
Flush Mounting
After choosing a mounting location that offers at least 17mm clearance behind the panel, you
must cut a hole of exactly 49mm diameter. The cup adapter can now be inserted and fixed with
the spring blade and two metrical M3 screws contained in the hardware accessory set. Once the
cup is properly fixed to the panel, you feed the tweeter wire through the hole in the cup adapter
– insert the tweeter into the cup and turn it counter-clockwise, to lock it in place.

TWEETER ATTENUATION SETTINGS
The crossover can be mounted in any location inside the vehicle. Recommended places are: In-
side the door, under the carpet in front of the door angles, under the dash board etc. Just do
not install the crossover unit, where it may be exposed to excessive moisture or water.
Now connect the tweeter wires, the wires from the mid / woofers and the wires from the ampli-
fier to the crossover units. All connections must be connected electrically in phase, which me-
ans positive (+) is connected to positive, and negative (-) to negative.
Out of phase connections, i.e. when a mid/woofer is concerned, will cause very low bass output
and a totally messed-up soundstage.
Tweeter Attenuation
The tweeter attenuation jumper is located inside the crossover, on the circuit board. Four diffe-
rent positions can be selected by moving the jumper to either 0 dB / -1dB / -2dB / -3dB
position.
The jumper allows you to modify the tonal balance in the treble region. The correct attenuation
must be played by ear, as you simply tune the high frequency balance to fit your personal taste.
Attention: Both jumpers must be set to identical positions!
Finally, you should determine if inverse tweeter polarity connection (to the crossover) will give
you better overall sound-quality. This depends on where the tweeter is mounted, and upon the
distance between tweeter and midwoofer etc. You should always invert BOTH tweeter wires at
the crossovers, or connect them BOTH in-phase and then listen for changes in the mirange res-
ponse. One of the two options will sound considerably better. Of course, this is the one to go for!
After determining the correct tweeter attenuation level and the best tweeter connection polarity,
you can remount the top of the crossover housing, reinstall all panels / factory grilles etc. Your
installation is now complete.

TESTING THE INSTALLED SYSTEM
Slowly turn up the volume of your head unit and listen for distortions. If the sound in general or
the soundstage, appear to be messy, you should double check all wires and connections on the
crossover once more! Keep in mind: Tweeters are easily burned, if they are accidentally connec-
ted to the mid/woofer terminal, etc. If you can not find the cause for the bad sound, make sure
to see your EMPHASER dealer immediately.

WARRANTY
EMPHASER Inc., Wyoming, Michigan USA warrants this ECP-XT3 component speaker system
and it’s parts, to be free of defects in materials and workmanship for TWO YEARS from the date
of purchase at retail, contingent upon being properly installed and approved by an authorized EM-
PHASER dealer.
EMPHASER Inc. will at its own discretion repair or replace any mechanically defective loudspeaker
or crossover unit during this warranty period.
Should your EMPHASER ECP-XT3 component system – or parts of it – require warranty service, plea-
se return it to the retailer from whom it was purchased. Please do not send any product to EMPHA-
SER Inc., Wyoming, Michigan USA. Should you have difficulties to find an authorized EMPHA-
SER service center, details are available from the national distributor in the country of purchase.
Abuse of the ECP-XT3 component speaker system due to excessive amplifier power, improper in-
stallation, amplifier clipping or physical damage is not covered under warranty.

Sollten Sie für Ihren Verstärker Garantie-Leistungen beanspruchen, wenden Sie sich bitte direkt
an den Händler, bei dem Sie das Gerät gekauft haben. Bitte senden Sie keine Geräte an EMPHA-
SER Inc. U.S.A. Bei Schwierigkeiten, ein geeignetes EMPHASER Service-Center zu finden, erhal-
ten Sie bei Ihrem jeweiligen Landes-Vertrieb weitere Informationen.
EMPHASER gewährt auf dieses Komponentensystem und seine Einzelteile eine Garantiezeit von
2 Jahren, gültig ab Kaufdatum im Fachhandel.
GARANTIE-EINSCHRÄNKUNGEN
Nicht unter Garantie fallen Schäden infolge von:
1. nicht-autorisierter bzw. nicht vom autorisierten Händler/Installateur geprüftem Selbst-Einbau
oder inkorrekten Audio- oder Stromanschlüssen.
2. schädlichen Einwirkungen von übermässiger Feuchtigkeit, Flüssigkeiten, Hitze, Sonnenein-
strahlung oder übermässiger Verschmutzung.
3. mechanischer Beschädigung durch Unfall, Fall oder Stoss; Schäden durch nicht autorisierte Re-
paraturversuche oder nicht durch den Hersteller ausdrücklich autorisierte Modifikationen.
Die Garantie dieses Produkts bleibt in jedem Fall auf die Reparatur bzw. den Ersatz (Entscheidung
beim Hersteller) des jeweiligen EMPHASER Produkts beschränkt. Schäden durch unsachgemässe
Verpackung und daraus resultierende Transportschäden werden nicht durch diese Garantie ge-
deckt. Jeder über diese Garantie-Erklärung hinausgehende Anspruch und jede Haftung für direk-
te oder indirekte Folgeschäden werden ausdrücklich abgelehnt.
