Clearing Coin Jams
CoinCo Guardian6000 6 Tube Coin Acceptor
These instructions should be used in conjunction with the Coin and Bill Acceptor manual and related
Knowledge Base articles.
The CoinCo Guardian6000 Coin Acceptor may stop accepting and sorting coins if a coin is jammed
within the Validator or Sorting sections of the Coin Acceptor. Symptoms may include:
Coin being rejected and dropping straight through to the Coin Return tray.
Coins routing to the incorrect denomination coin tube
Coins inserted not entering any coin tube
A “Check Coin Path” Status/Diagnostic Error on the LCD Display on the Coin Acceptor
This document provides instructions for removing the Validator/Sorter section of the Coin
Acceptor to check for and remove any Jammed Coins.
1. Turn off the Power to the Coin and Bill Acceptor at the Mains Power Outlet.
2. Using the provided keys, open the rear door of the Coin and Bill Acceptor
3. Push the release tab (marked by the red indicator on the left of the Coin Acceptor) to the right.
While holding the tab in this position, using your second hand grab the top edge of the light grey
frame above the LCD Display Screen and pull forward (towards yourself). The Validator/Sorter
section of the Coin unit will swing down (being hinged at the bottom of the Sorter). Note that the
Validator/Sorter has tight fit in the Coin Acceptor main black frame. You may need to pull forward
with a little bit of force to get the section to swing down.
Page 2of 11
4. Unplug the ribbon cable behind the Validator/Sorter section from the circuit board. This connector
has a tight fit so a little force may be required when pulling on the ribbon cable for the connector to
become unplugged.
5. Once the cable is unplugged you can lift the Validator/Sorter section slightly and pull forward. The
light grey knobs on the side of the Validator/Sorter will come free from the slots of the main Coin
Acceptor (black) frame. The Validator/Sorter section will completely come out of the Coin Acceptor.
Place the Validator/Sorter section on a desk.
6. Open the Validator door (hinged from the right). Clear any visible stuck coins. Also check in the
Sorting flaps in the bottom right. If there are coins stuck behind the flaps but you are unable to
remove the coins then turn the Validator/Sorter section upside down and gently shake the unit. Any
coins behind the flaps will loosen and fall out.
Page 3of 11
7. Next, open the Sort Door by pulling the red latch to the left while lifting the door from the right hand
side. The door is hinged on the left. Clear any exposed/accessible jammed coins.
Page 4of 11
8. Open the first clear inner flap. This hinges from the left. Clear any exposed/accessible jammed
coins.
9. Remove the second clear flap. There is a pinch latch on the left hand side. Squeeze the two parts
of the latch together at the same time as lifting up. The latch will release. The flap is hinged on the
right by a clear plastic knob that inserts into a hole. The flap will release and can be completely
removed. Clear any exposed/accessible jammed coins.
Page 5of 11
10. Now, remove the first (top) sloped plastic guide at the bottom of the unit. Squeeze the release latch
on the right hand side while pulling the guide to the bottom of the unit. The guide will release. It is
hinged from the bottom left hand side. Slide the guide out of the hinge slot to completely remove the
plastic guide from the unit. Clear and exposed/accessible jammed coins.
11. Next, remove the second (bottom) sloped plastic guide at the bottom of the unit. This removes in
the same way as the first (top) sloped plastic guide (see step 10 above). Once completely
removed, clear any exposed/accessible jammed coins.
12. All jammed coins should now be released and clear of the unit. The unit can now be put back
together. This will be done in the reverse order to how it was taken apart.

Rebuilding the unit:
1. First the plastic guides will be re-inserted. The second (bottom) plastic guide has some small
hinged light grey arms. Due to gravity and to ensure that they fall into the correct space, it is best to
re-insert the plastic guides with the Validator/Sorter section standing up in the upside down position.
2. Turn the unit upside down. Insert the second (bottom) plastic guide into the hinge slot on the left
hand side. Ensure that the hinged grey arms insert into the slots in the Sorter bars. The bars can
be pushed in to get the arms through the slots. Push the guide down on the right hand side until it
is fully inserted and the latch clicks back into place.
3. Next insert the first (top) plastic guide into the hinge slot on the left hand side. Push the guide down
on the right hand side until it is fully inserted and the latch clicks back into place.
4. Lay the Validator/Sorter back down on its back. Insert the second clear flap. Insert the clear knob
on the end of the flap into the socket (on the right). Push the flap down into place until the latch
engages.
Page 7of 11
5. Before closing the top clear flap it is recommended to check the sorting flaps for correct movement.
The flaps are controlled by a two way control arm. On the edges of the two flaps there are light grey
rods. Check that both rods are inside the control arm ends (hooks). The control arm down and lift
the arm up. Ensure that after each movement that the arm and flaps return to their original
positions by themselves.
Page 8of 11
6. Next close the top clear flap (hinged form the left) until it is completely closed.
7. Now, close the Sorting Door. The door is hinged from the left. The door sits on some hinge pins. If
the Door falls off the hinge pins at any stage during the above steps then please ensure that it is
slide back onto the pins correctly before closing the Sorting Door. If it is not sitting on the pins
correctly then the Sorting Door will not close. Do not force the Sorting Door while closing as you
may damage the hinge. If it will not freely close then check the hinge pins.
Page 9of 11
8. Once the Sorting Door is close then the Validator/Sorter section is now completely re-assembled
and can be re-installed into the Coin Acceptor frame. Insert the hinge knobs on each side of the
Sorter section into the slots on the main Coin Acceptor (balck) frame.
9. Re-attach the Ribbon Cable by aligning the cable connector to the slot. It is best that the cable is
pushed into the slot using a “see-saw” action. Push firmly on the left side of the connector first.
Then push firmly on the right side of the connector. Push firmly on the left hand side of the
connector again. The cable should now be securely connected in the socket.
10. The Validator/Sorter section can now be swung back into place (hinged from the bottom). Before
pushing the unit all the way back into place you will find the Coin Eject Lever at the top of the
Validator/Sorter will hit the round metal disc attached to the bottom of the Ejector Arm (which is the
Coin Eject button at the top of the complete Coin and Bill Acceptor –what the user pressed to eject
their money). The Ejector Arm (button) must be lifted up to ensure that the Eject Level slides
underneath the round metal disc. Once the Lever has cleared the metal disc then the
Validator/Sorter section will push completely back in place and the release lever (marked by the red
indicator on the left hand side of the unit) will engage and lock.
11. Press down the Coin Eject button several times to ensure that the mechanism is moving correctly.
12. You may now power on the Coin and Bill Acceptor at the Mains Power outlet. As the Coin
Acceptor performs it power-on Self-Test, ensure that the LCD displays shows an OK status instead
of a diagnostic error. Once the Self-Test has completed the LCD display should alternate between
Status OK (with the approximate change level/Value) and Float Disabled. If any errors are
displayed then please repeat the steps above to ensure that no steps were missed and the unit was
not incorrectly assembled. If an error still exists then please contact EnvisionWare Support for
further assistance.
