Epifani American Tweed 4x10 User manual

American Tweed
Limited Edition
Bass Speaker Cab

Thank you for purchasing a limited edion American Tweed bass speaker cabinet, and welcome to the Epifani
family! You are about to experience Legendary Sound. We hope you love it.
Being an Epifani player puts you in the company of some of history’s most inuenal bassists. Aer all, it
was their invaluable feedback that helped Nick Epifani design every amp, combo, and cabinet down to the
smallest detail. Over the past 23 years, we’ve been making bass gear in cooperaon with legends like Anthony
Jackson, Oteil Burbridge, and Ron Carter, just to name a few. Our relaonship with them has shaped the Epifani
experience you’ll have today and in the future.
Your American Tweed is as much a piece of hand-craed, hi- studio gear as it is a rugged, road-ready
speaker cabinet. Every detail has been meculously engineered to ensure you’re able to dial in exactly the sound
you want in any playing situaon.
Limited Edion
The American Tweed series is a limited-run cabinet, hand built in small batches. Your cab is covered in authenc
tweed just like the early days of cabinet design. It is also the only Epifani cabinet currently available with rear
ports, custom ceramic drivers by Eminence, and a removable grill cloth. We wanted to give you the ulmate
retro experience.
We designed American Tweed to help you get the perfect combinaon of warm, vintage tone with a healthy
dose of Epifani punch and clarity.
We want you to have an incredible Epifani experience. So, if there is anything at all we can do to help,
please feel free to get in touch any me. You can reach us online at www.Epifani.com/support or over the phone
at (888) 925-3781.
Thank you. And, have fun!

Safety Information
1. Read these instrucons.
2. Keep these instrucons.
3. Heed all warnings.
4. Follow all instrucons.
5. Do not use this apparatus near water.
6. Clean only with a dry cloth.
7. Do not block any venlaon openings. Install in
accordance with all applicable manufacturer’s instrucons.
8. Do not install near any heat sources such as radiators,
heat registers, stoves, or other apparatus (including
ampliers) that produce heat.
9. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized or
grounding-type plug. A polarized plug has two blades
with one wider than the other. A grounding-type plug has
two blades and a third grounding prong. The wide blade
or third prong is provided for your safety. If the provided
plug does not t into your outlet, consult an electrician for
replacement of the obsolete outlet.
10. Protect the power cable from being walked on or
pinched parcularly at the plugs, convenience receptacles,
and the point where they exit from the apparatus.
11. Only use aachments/accessories specied by the
manufacturer.
12. Use only with the cart, stand, tripod, bracket, or table
specied by the manufacturer, or sold with the apparatus.
When a cart is used, use cauon when moving the cart/
apparatus combinaon to avoid injury from p-over.
13. Unplug this apparatus during lightning storms or when
unused
for long periods of me.
14. Refer all servicing to a qualied service personnel.
Servicing is required when the apparatus has been damaged
in any way, such as the power-supply cord or plug is
damaged, liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen into
the apparatus, the apparatus has been exposed to rain or
moisture, does not operate normally, or has been dropped.
15. Do not overload wall outlets and extension cords as this
can result in a risk of re or electric shock.
16. Never push any foreign objects of any kind into the
openings as they may touch dangerous voltage pointsthat
could result in re or electric shock. The apparatus shall not
be exposed to dripping or splashing and no objects lled
with liquids such as a beverage container should come in
contact with the unit.
17. This apparatus has been designed with Class-I
construcon and must be connected to mains socket outlet
with a protecve earthing connecon (the third grounding
prong).
18. The MAINS plug or an appliance couple is used as the
disconnect device, so the disconnect device shall remain
readily operable.
19. Exposure to extremely high noise levels may cause
permanent hearing loss. Individuals vary considerably in
suscepbility to noise-induced hearing loss, but nearly
everyone will lose some hearing if exposed to suciently
intense noise for a period of me.

1. Tweeter Level
Aenuates the output level of the tweeter. Choose
Low, Medium, High, or O. Select high frequencies are
sent to the tweeter via the integrated crossover.
2. Speaker Input/Output
2. Input/Output
Combinaon Neutrik Speakon™ and 1/4-inch TS
connector, wired in parallel so you can plug in to either
connector. We recommend Speakon-to-Speakon
cables.
The input/output connecons on the back of your
cabinet are wired in parallel. If you daisy chain two 8
Ohm cabinets, you will have a total impedance of 4
Ohms.
If your amp’s minimum load is 4 Ohms, it means that
you can use one 8 Ohm, or two 8 Ohm cabinets, or a
single 4 Ohm cabinet.
American Tweed cabinets are equipped with combo
Neutrik Speakon connectors. This means that you can
use a Speakon speaker cable or a 1/4-inch speaker
cable to connect your amp and other cabinets.
In the center of the Speakon connector is a 1/4-inch
jack that will accept a standard 1/4-inch speaker cable.
For higher power handling and a more secure
connecon, use Speakon-to-Speakon cables with
a speaker wire of at least 16-guage. A lower gauge
number means thicker cabling. So, a 14-guage cable
is thicker in diameter and thus beer than a 16-guage
cable. Thicker cabling means beer low frequency
transmission to the cabinet(s).
The pin connecon inside the Speakon connector
should be +1 and -1. Be sure to specify this
conguraon when buying your speaker cables.
Although this is the most common style, it is not
the only one available. The correct speaker cable is
available from Epifani. To purchase, visit

Control Panel The Tao of Impedance

When connecng speaker cabinets to an amplier, it
is important to never exceed the minimum impedance
for which the amplier is rated. Many bass amps, like
the Epifani Piccolo, for instance, have a minimum
impedance rang of 4 Ohms (Ω).
In this case, if the total impedance of the speaker
cabinets connected to the amplier is less than 4
Ohms, it could cause the ampier to overheat and the
protecon circuitry to shut the amplier o.
Using a single 4 Ohm or 8 Ohm cabinet will not
exceed the minimum impedance of most amps.
When combining two speakers, make sure they are
both designed for 8 Ohm operaon. Combining two
8 Ohm cabinets will give you a total impedance of 4
Ohms.
Do not combine two 4 Ohm cabinets unless your amp
has a minimum impedance of 2 Ohms, like the Epifani
UL 901 [1000W].
You can use your Epifani American Tweed cab(s) with
other speaker cabinets. But watch out! Not all cabs are
created equal.
When using other cabinets with your American
Tweed, be sure the others are in phase. You can easily
test the polarity, or phase, of those speakers using a
9 volt baery (the same baery used in most acve
basses). With this test you can make sure they are all
moving in the right direcon (forward!).
What does “out of phase” mean?
Somemes, when you daisy chain two cabinets, you
will note a lack of bass resonse. Typically, this means
that one of the cabinets is “out of phase,” meaning its
speaker is moving backwards when the other moves
forward. This will cause them to cancel each other
out. You can readily noce this when a single cabinet
has more bass and beer response than when two are
connected.
How to test
Here’s how to verify phase: Take a 1/4-inch cable
and connect one side to the cabinet. Touch the p of
the the other end of the 1/4-inch jack to the “+” of
a 9-volt baery, and touch the sha to the “-” of the
baery.
All the speakers should move forward when this
connecon is made. If it does, all the speakers are in
phase. If one or more speakers move backwards, you
have a cabinet that is wired out of phase. The problem
can easily be corrected by a speaker technician.
