This guide outlines the installation and setup of the Eos Family rackmount devices:
•
Eos Apex Processor
•
Eos Remote Interface
•
Ion Xe Remote Processor Unit
For information on using the Eos Family software, please refer to the Eos Family Operations Manual.

Rack Mounting
All Eos Family rackmount devices ship with the hardware necessary to mount the associated device
into a 19" rack enclosure with 2Uof rack space. Both the front and rear mounting brackets are
required for a stable rack mounting installation.
The following 2U metric rack mount kits are also available separately:
•
Apex Processor and Eos Remote Interface Rack Mount Kit (ETCPart Number 4450A2040)
•
Ion Xe RPURack Mount Kit (ETCPart Number 4311A2003)

Installing Mounting Hardware
Note: If you wish to change the label strips of an Ion Xe RPU, you must do
so before attaching the rack mounting brackets.
1. Align a front bracket to the appropriate side of the unit and secure using three M5 x 12mm
screws.

2. Repeat to install the opposite side front bracket.
3. Attach a rear bracket to a rail adapter with two 10-30 x 1/2 screws.
4. Align the new rear bracket assembly to the appropriate side of the unit and secure using two
6-32 x 1/4 screws.
5. Repeat to assemble and install the opposite side rear bracket assembly.
6. Use the remaining hardware to secure the unit into the 19" rack enclosure.

Desktop Use - Installing Rubber Feet
All Eos Family rackmount devices also ship with four rubber feet for desktop use.
1. Locate the four rubber feet and four accompanying M3-0.5 x 6mm screws.
2. Align a foot with one of the four recessed circles in each corner of the bottom of the device,
and secure with one M3-0.5 x 6mm screw.
3. Repeat to install the other three feet.

Eos Apex Processor
A fully-functional controller in a rackmount unit, ETC's Eos Apex Processor can provide primary
and backup control for Eos Apex systems, or be used as a stand-alone lighting playback unit. A 2U
device, it can be mounted into 19" equipment racks or road cases.
The Apex Processor ships with the following:
•
One three-button scroll mouse and mousepad
•
Alpha-numeric keyboard
•
Locking regionalized IEC power cord
•
Two 19-inch rack-mount ears and mounting hardware
•
Four rubberized feet (for desktop use)
•
Augment3d AR target kit

Insert the locking power cord into the IEC power connector. Connect the mouse and keyboard to
USB ports, any monitors to the Display Ports, and any network cables to the Ethernet ports. Once
all accessories have been connected, you may activate the hard power switch above the power
connector.

Press the soft power button on the front of the device. By default, it will boot into the Eos
environment in Primary mode. If you wish to designate your device as a backup or client, you must
exit the Eos environment and choose a different designation from the Eos Configuration Utility
(ECU) welcome screen.

Eos Remote Interface
The Eos Remote Interface is a rackmount device designed to offer remote video and programming
functions for Eos Family control systems. INLINESNIPPET. The Eos Remote Interface supports up to
three external 4K monitors, with optional multi-touch via USB.
The Remote Interface ships with the following:
•
One three-button scroll mouse and mousepad
•
Alpha-numeric keyboard
•
Locking regionalized IEC power cord
•
Two 19-inch rack-mount ears and mounting hardware
•
Four rubberized feet (for desktop use)
•
Augment3d AR target kit

Touchscreen Overview
The Eos Apex Processor and Eos Remote Interface feature haptic touchscreen displays, allowing
you to interact with your system directly from the rack.
The main menu displays the name of the current show file, the time, and current userinformation.
Use the red X icon in the top left to return to the most recently used sub-menu.
The Live command line appears at the bottom of all sub-menu displays.
Use the red X button in the bottom right to clear the command line. At any time, use the menu
icon in the top left to return to the main menu.
The following sub-menus are available:
Custom Direct Selects
This menu gives you control of your system via your show file's direct selects. A settings menu can
be toggled with the gear icon, allowing you to choose which set of custom direct selects to
interact with.

Popup Magic Sheets
This menu gives you control of your system via your show file's magic sheets. A settings menu can
be toggled with the gear icon, allowing you to choose which magic sheet to interact with.

Setup
This sub-menu gives you options to adjust the brightness of the touchscreen display and front vent
highlight lamp, as well as set an automatic timeout.
Power
This sub-menu gives you options to exit the Eos application, physically power off, and remotely
control the power of a multiconsole system.

Ion Xe Remote Processor Unit
The Ion Xe RPU can be used as a primary, backup, or client processor with any Eos Family desk. It
can also be used for independent playback applications.
The Ion Xe RPU ships with the following:
•
One three-button scroll mouse and mousepad
•
Alpha-numeric keyboard
•
Locking regionalized IEC power cord
•
Two active display port to DVI adapters
•
Two 19-inch rack-mount ears and mounting hardware
•
Four rubberized feet (for desktop use)
•
Augment3d AR target kit

Ion Xe RPUButton Configuration
Settings for the RPU can be altered in the Eos Configuration Utility (ECU). The 20 buttons on the
front panel of the RPU are configurable from the RPU area of the Buttons section of the ECU.
Note: The buttons section of the ECU has multiple configuration tools. Please make sure
you are choosing the RPUface panel buttons tool.
Configuring the RPUButtons
1. In the Eos browser, select File > Exit and confirm the selection. Eos will close and return to
the Eos welcome screen.
2. Select {Settings} to open the ECU.
3. On the right side of the screen, select {Buttons} to enter the RPU button setup. A virtual
display of the RPU buttons is displayed with the current button settings labeled on each
button.
4. Select a button you wish to alter. A button popup window will open.
5. Select the type of button you want it to be, macro or hardkey. For macros, select the Macro
# box, enter the desired macro number from the keyboard, select {Enter}, and select
{Accept}.
