Introduction
The Everpure MRS-200 System is apre-engineered, pre-assembled reverse osmosis system
designed to provide highpuritywater formanyapplications, such as premium espresso, coffee
and blended beverages, to name afew.It combines anumber ofwater treatmenttechnologies
into one easyto install package. The system provides superior protection against taste and odor
causingcontaminants while removingdirt, particulates and dissolvedsolids that can foul or
scale equipment.
Please read this manual prior to installingandoperatingthe system.
Initial Outlet Water Production

1. For units with inlet pressure lower than 50 psig aboosterpump is recommended.
2. Where TDS exceeds 600PPM (600 mg/L) andthe pressureless than 60 psig, abooster pumpis recommended.
3. The reverse osmosis membrane filter used in this system will be damaged by chlorine. An activated carbon filter has
been provided with thissystemto protect the reverseosmosismembrane fromchlorine attack. Influent chlorine
should not exceed 3 mg/L.
TheMRS-200 System consists of seven major components:
1. Gallon/Calendar monitor.
2. 5-Micron Pre-filter.
3. Granular Activated Carbon Taste& Odor (TO) cartridge.
4. Reverse Osmosis (RO) membrane cartridge.
5. Filtered Water Blend Valve.
6. 15-gallon atmosphericStorage Tank.
7. Constant pressure product water Re-pressurization Pump.
The MRS-200 containsall the necessarypiping,valves and fittings pre-assembled onto afloor-
standingrack.Lengthsof¼” and 3/8” tubingare provided for connectingto the
wastewater/drainand sample/flushinglines.
The 5-micron pre-filter removes suspended particles, which can lead topre-mature plugging of
the TO and/orRO membrane cartridge(s). The TO cartridge removes most oxidizers, but mainly
reduces chlorine, preventing damagetotheRO cartridge. The ROcartridgecontains asemi-
permeable reverse osmosis membrane.Here, most dissolved impurities are separated fromthe
water and flushed downthe drain. The water thatis ableto pass throughthe membrane,which
is verylowin dissolvedimpurities,enters the storagetank.This is referred to as RO water or
product water. In certain applications, some filtered water is mixed(viathe filtered water blend
valve) with theproduct water toattain a specific level oftotal dissolved solids (TDS).

The storagetankstores water that has been produced byboth the RO System and the filtered
water blend valve. It provides awater supplybuffer enablingthesystem to provide reasonable
volumes ofproduct water during highdemand periods.
The product water re-pressurization pump develops and maintains the pressure required for
deliveringthe water from thestorage tank totheconnected equipment.
Aunique cartridgemonitor/alarm module has been included. This device can be set to provide
simultaneous water throughputand operatingtime indications over easilyselectable ranges.
This monitor helpsin determining cartridgechange-out schedules.
Pre-Installation Checklist
1. ____ Can the unit be mountedwithin areasonable distance ofthe water supplyand
drain facilities?
2. ____ Are two115 VAC GFIC protected receptacles available for connectingthe 115
VAC/24 VAC transformer andproduct water re-pressurization pump?
3. ____ Is there adequate clearance and support to install the unit and permit access for
maintenance? Thesystem will weighapproximately175 pounds when the
storagetank is full.
4. ____ Does theinlet water supplymeet the requirements listed below? 1
 A minimum of 1.0 GPMat 50-100 psi pressure on a consistent basis

1. Incoming water suppliesthat do not meet these requirements mayneed additional pre-treatment prior to the system.
Systemperformance may be affected if requirements are not met, including systemoutput production and cartridge
change-out frequency. Optional inlet booster pumpsare available to increase supply water pressure and system
production.
SystemInstallation
1. Locate the MRS-200 system in an area
that is convenient to the inlet water
supplyand drain facilities, with access
for routingthe product water
tubing/pipingto the equipment. Also
consider ease ofservice when selecting
a location.
2. Refer to Figure 1 for assemblingthe four
legsto the shelf. Insert each legfully
with the twohalfsleeves provided.
Adjust the levelingbolt(s) asrequired
until the shelfis stable and levelin all
directions.

3. Referto Figure 2for aviewofthe complete assembly,with adescription ofmajor
components and connection points.Place themain unit on the shelf, positioning the
cartridgeheads directlyover the cutout area.Insert acable tie intoone ofthe holes in the
baseplate and throughthe wire “slats” in the shelf, makingasecure loop. Do this with all
four corners of thebaseplate.

Check/adjust the pre-charge to 40 PSI air pressure. Attach the accumulator tankto the rack
with the wire ties provided. Secure the elbowfittingto the pump dischargeconnection by
inserting fullyand slidingthe clip upward until it clicks. Attach theoutlet valveto the clamps as
illustrated.

4. Watersupplies with adynamic operatingpressure of50 PSI orless require the useofthe
booster pump to increase production. Watersupplies with adynamic operatingpressure
greater than 50 PSI generallydo not require the addition ofabooster pump, unless certain
site specific conditions prevent the system fromattainingthe rated production output without
it. Thebooster pumpincreases theincoming pressure byapproximately45 PSI.
Do not install the inlet booster pump on water supplies with adynamic pressure in
excess of 75 PSI.
Do not connectthe MRS-200 system afteranywater filtrationsystem, unless

Ifaboosterpump is required, refer to Figure 4. Assemble amale elbowfittingto thepump
inlet and amale connector fitting to the pump outlet. Attach the pump to the mountingplate
with the hardware provided. Attach the pump with mountingplate tothebackplate with the
hardware provided. The flowarrowson the pump head should be pointingup to prevent air
entrapment. Attachalength of tubing from the pump outlet totheinlet shut-off valve.

6. The cartridgeusagemonitor requires twoAAA batteries. Do not install the batteries until
installationiscompleted and the system isreadyto put into service.
7. Connect the water to betreated to the systeminlet shut-off valveon systems without a
booster pumpor to the booster pumpinlet onmodels with a booster pump.

8. The product water tubing/pipingand associated fittingsconnectingthe ROproductoutlet to
the equipmentbeingserviced should be food grade material that meets NSF Standard 51 or
61 with aminimum pressure ratingof75 PSI. The sizeof the productwater tubing/piping
should be ½” ID minimum. Distancesof100 feet or greaterfrom the RO to the equipment
beingserviced should be ¾” ID minimum. Connect the appropriatesizeand type of
tubing/pipingand associated fittings to the RO product outlet on the MRS-200 system and
routethelines totheequipment being serviced (i.e.; espresso, coffee, etc.).
Note: Theproductwater will react with mostmetal piping,creating acorrosivecondition, in
addition to impartinganobjectionable taste. Plastic pipe or reinforced tubingare generally
verygood choicesfor RO water distribution materials.
9. Locate the RO waste connection. Twowaste flow control assemblies havebeenprovided.
Based on the incoming water quality, select one ofthe following:
a. Systems operating on hard water(>10 grains) – Locate the flowcontrol insert (red
plastic cylinder insmall parts kit). Press this insert into the red ¼” OD tubing(Fig.6).
Attach the endofthe tubingwith the flowcontrolinsert intothe 3/8” stemx¼” OD tube
reducing fittinginstalled in the ROwaste connection (Fig. 8). Route the other end ofthe
tubing to adrain nearby, securing it permanently. Allowan air gap at thedrain, following
anyapplicable local codes.
b. Systems operating on soft water (<10grains) – Locatethe capillarytubingassembly
in the small parts kit. Insert the capillarytubingassemblyinto the red ¼” OD tubing(Fig.
7). Do not shorten the capillarytubing at this time. Attach the end ofthe tubingwith
the capillary tubingassemblyend fittinginto the 3/8” stemx¼” OD tube reducingfitting
installed in the RO waste connection (Fig. 8). Route theother endof thetubingto a drain
nearby,securingit temporarily.Allowan air gapat the drain, followinganyapplicable
local codes. During start-up, referto the section titled “AdjustingtheRecovery”for
instructions.

10. Attach short length’s of¼” and 3/8” OD tubingto the TO flush valveandproduct water 3-
waysample valve connection locatednear the TO flush valve.
11. Refertofigure 9.Locatethe 10-foot power cord attached to the control enclosure. Connect
the forkconnectors on this cord to the terminals on the 24 VAC transformer. Systems not
utilizingthe booster pump require no additional wiring.Systems utilizingthe booster pump
require theaddition oftheY-connectorincluded in the small partskit to enable connecting
the electrical connection on thebooster pumptothe control enclosurecircuit.
Do not connect the transformer to the 115-Volt receptacle at this time.

Cartridge Installation and Activation
1. Removethe outer shrink-wrap and protectiveclosure fromthe pre-filter, TO and RO
cartridges.
2. Removethe sump fromthe pre-filter housing. Install the pre-filter into the sump. Locate the
O-ringin the small partspack. Lightlylubricate this O-ringwith afood grade lubricant and
install it into the groovein the sump. Re-install the sump with pre-filter and O-ringinto the
pre-filter head.
3. Open the TO flush valve. Install the TO cartridgeinto theTO head (right hand), following the
instructions on the cartridge.Position abucketor other container under the TO flush valve.
Slowlyopen the inlet shut-off valve. Carbon fines and air will be flushed out ofthe TO flush
valveduringthis time. Flush until water runs clear (3-5 minutes typically). Close the inlet
shut-off valve and theTO flush valve.
4. Install theRO cartridgeinto theRO head(left hand). Rotate the handle onthe product water
3-waysample valveso it is pointingtowards thedrain connection (frontofunit). Close the
filtered water blend valve.
5. Slowlyopen the inlet shut-off valve. Position abucketorother container under theproduct
water 3-waysample valve drain connection. Slowlyopen the inlet shut-off valve. Plug the 24
VAC transformer intoa115-Volt receptacle. Waterwill begin to flowout of the RO discharge
tubing and product water 3-waysample valve drain connection.
WARNING: Do not use this productwater! It maycontain apreservativesolution fromthe
RO cartridgeand should not beconsumed!
6. Ifyou are utilizingthe capillary tubingassembly, referto the section titled “Adjustingthe
Recovery” for instructions. Returntothissectionwhen complete.
7. Allowthe system to flushforat least 1hour or until 1gallon ofproductwater has been
produced. Close the inlet shut-off valve.
Start-Up and Blend Adjustment
1. Whenflushingis complete, the storagetankrequires fillingwith chlorinated water, time for
effectivedisinfection, andthen completedraining. The steps for this are outlined below.
Prepare for drainingthe storagetank bydoing one of thefollowing:
a) Remove the drain plugon the storage tankand temporarilyinstall a nipple, valve and
hose or tubing todrain.
b) Disconnect thetubing/pipingconnected to oneofthesystems beingserviced bythe
RO. Divert thetubing/pipingto drain asrequired.
2. Rotate the handle on theproduct water 3-waysample valveso it is pointingtowards the
storagetankconnection (rear ofunit). The systemwill nowbegin to fill the storagetankwith
product water. Removethe storagetankaccess cover. Pour 2ouncesof5.25% bleach into
the storagetank.Open the filtered water blend valvefullyand allowthe storagetankto fill
until the level switch stops the flowofwater. Close the filtered water blend valve. Disconnect
the 24VAC transformerfromthe 115-Volt receptacle. Manuallyadd additional water to the
storagetankuntil completelyfull. Reinstall thestoragetankaccesscover. Allowthe
chlorinated water to remain in the storagetankfor 10 minutes to disinfectthe storagetank
effectively. Close thefiltered water blendvalve.

Hint: Use the TO flushvalvefor asource ofwater to fill the storagetank after the level
switch stops the flowof water.
3. The storagetankrequirescomplete drainingat this time. This can be accomplished one of
two ways, based on what steps were donein step1 above. Theyare:
a) Open the valveon the storagetankdrain connection and allowthe storagetankto
drain.
b) Connect the re-pressurization pumptoa115-Volt receptacle.The re-pressurization
pump will pump the water throughthe product water tubing/pipingand to thedrain.
Allowthe pump to rununtil the storagetankis empty.Disconnect the re-
pressurization pump from the 115-Volt receptacle.
Upon completion of the storagetankdrain down, refill the storagetankasecond time byre-
connectingthe 24 VAC transformerto a115-Volt receptacle and openingthe filtered water
blend valvefully.Allowthe storagetankto fill until the level switch stops the flowofwater.
Disconnect the 24 VAC transformer fromthe 115-Volt receptacle. Drain the storagetanka
second timeusing oneofthe procedures outlined above. Repeat thisprocess until no
residual chlorine odor isdetected. Re-install thedrain plug or re-connect the equipment
beingserviced as required.
4. Connect the 24 VAC transformer to a115-Volt receptacle. The system will begin fillingthe
storagetank with product water. Close the filter water blend valve at this time.
5. Certain applications require the productwater tocontain arangeofTDSgreaterthan what
an RO system normallyproduces. In those cases, afiltered water blend valvehas been
provided to blend in filtered (not RO treated) water to attain a specific TDS range. Rotate the
handle on the productwater 3-waysample valveso it is pointing towards the drain
connection (front ofunit). UsingaTDSmeter, measure the TDS the ROsystem is currently
producing. Ifthe TDS is too low,open the filteredwater blend valveas required until some
additional flowis observed in the product water sample. Re-checkthe TDS level present.
Adjust the filtered water blend valveas required to attain aTDS level in the middle ofthe
TDS range specified.
6. Rotate the handle on theproduct water 3-waysample valveso it is pointingtowards the
storagetank connection (rear of unit).
7. Open the product water shut-off valve.
8. Connect the re-pressurization pumptoa115-Volt receptacle.
9. Install the AAA batteriesinto the gallon/calendar Monitor. Followthe instructions provided
with themonitor toprogram the unit volume andcalendar settings.
10. Duringnormal operation, makesure the system valves are in thefollowingpositions:
a. System inlet andoutlet valves – open
b. Sample port/flushing valves – closed
c. Product water 3-waysample valve – handle pointingtowards the storage tank
connection (rear of unit).
11. Once the systembeen started-up initially,it is agood idea to measure theoutlet water flow
rate and qualityto checkon the system performance. The initial values should be recorded
for future comparison todetect anychangesin performance.See the Maintenance section
ofthis manual for detailed procedures.

Adjusting the Recovery
Systems utilizingthe flow control insert (red plastic cylinder in small partskit) on un-softened (<
10 gr./gal) feed water, can expect arecoveryofabout 30%, which is fixed. Ifyou are operating
the system under theseconditions, skipthissection.
Systems connected tosoftened water supplies can utilizethe capillarytubingassemblyand
mayrun upto40% recovery.
Note: Problem water applications such ashighTDS (TDS >1000) or highsilt (SDI >3) will
require alower recoveryof10-20% toprevent membranefouling. Consult Everpure
Technical Service for assistance.
Systems operatingon asoftwater supplyhavethe option ofutilizingthecapillarytube insert.
The restrictor will permit acertain flowgiven aconstant pressure when cutto the proper length.
Because not all municipal water pressures or customerrecoveries are thesame, the following
steps must befollowed for proper restrictor sizing*
*For highTDS situations (greater than1000 ppm) it is best to run at 20% recovery.
1. Record the inlet pressure just before the inlet control valve. Measure the product flowwith a
1000 ml graduated cylinder. Don't worryif theflowis slightlymore or less than what is
specified.
2. Determinetheappropriate concentrateflowfor your system andthedesired recovery.

3. Referto Table 2. Locate the concentrate flow,based on operatingpressure. Followthat line
to the left for the correct tubinglength.
Example: For 520-ml/minproduct flowrate at 60 psiginlet pressure, determine the capillary
tube lengthfor arecoveryof 40%.

RefertoTable 2. Aflowof780 ml/min at60 psiginlet water pressure results in alength of
about 2.50 inches, frominsert endtotheendofthe capillarytubing. In this example,
measure2.50inchesfrom the insert end andcut the tubing.
NOTICE: If your supply pressure falls somewhere in between youmay approximateknowing
each pressureline on the graphis 10 psig apart. (i.e.; 65psig is midway of 60and 70psig).
4. Once the capillarytube has been cut and re-installed you can then run aperformancecheck
to verifyproduction, waste and water quality.Secure the drain tubing permanently. Allow
an air gapat the drain, followinganyapplicable local codes.

Once the system been started-up initially,it is agood idea to measure theoutlet water flowrate
and qualitytocheckon the system performance. The initial values should be recorded for future
comparison to detect any changes in performance. See the Maintenance section ofthis manual
for detailed procedures.

Operation
1. Duringnormal operation, a continuous supplyof water must beavailable to thesystem.
2. The system inlet and outlet valves must be open, the sample outlet and flushingvalves must
be closed andthedrain line must beunrestricted.
3. Theoutlet lines must be open tothecoffee, espresso and other connectedequipment.
4. Cartridge UsageMonitor
The cartridgeusagemonitor provides visual indications ofsystemoperation life. The
device incorporates simultaneous monitoringofsystemthroughputvolume and
operatingtime.This information can be used to provide more accurate determination of
cartridgeusageand change-out schedules.Referto the instructions provided with the
module for details onprogramming andresettingits volume andtime settings.
Programmable cartridge life scales:
a) Gallonageand calendar programs act simultaneously.
b) A scale must be selectedfor both gallonage andcalendar programs.
c) Gallonagescale is jumper selectable for 6,000, 12,000, 18,000or 24,000gallons.
d) Calendar scale is jumper selectable for 6 months or 12months.
Monitor operation:
a) “Active” (green)lightblinkseverytwoseconds duringanyminimumwater flow
condition.
b) “Alert” (amber) light blinks when 80% of the programmedlife scale is reached.
c) “Change” (red) light blinks when 100% of programmed lifescale is reached.
Monitor light indications:
a) The amberand green lights blinkat different ratesto indicate gallonageorcalendar
limits arereached.
1. A single blinkindicates gallonage limitshave been reached.
2. A double blink indicates calendar limitshave been reached.
Maintenance
The MRS-200 ReverseOsmosis system requires verylittle maintenance. Regularcartridge
change-out is the onlynormal requirement, andaveryimportantone. The cartridgeusage
monitor provides visual indications once 80% and 100% ofselected volume and calendar
ranges are reached.
In typical service, thecartridgechange-outschedules are aslisted below.The performance
monitoringinstructions belowand the troubleshootingsection ofthis manual will help you
determine whether it is necessarytochangecartridges ona different schedule.

Every3 months - Replace theper-filter cartridge:
1. Close the inlet shut-off valve.
2. Open the TO flush valve to relievethe pressure. Observethat the pressure gauge
reads zero.
3. Place abucket underthesump to catch anyexcess water thatmayspill from the
head. Un-screwthe sump with the wrench provided. Removethe old cartridgeand
clean the sumpif required.
4. Install the newcartridge and re-install thesump.

Every6 months – Replace theTO cartridge:
1. Close the inlet shut-off valve.
2. Disconnect the 24VAC Transformer from the115-Volt receptacle.
3. Open the TO flush valve to relievethe pressure. Observethat the pressure gauge
reads zero.
4. Followthe instructions on the TO cartridgelabel. Place abucket under thecartridge
to catch anyexcess water thatmayspill fromthehead. Removetheold cartridgeby
turningthe cartridgeto the left until it stops andpullingit downward until it is free
from its head.
5. Remove the shrink-wrap plastic from thenewTO cartridge.
6. Align thenewpre-filter cartridgelug with its headlabel.
7. Holdingthe head and cartridgefirmly,press the cartridgeupward onto the head and
turnthecartridgetotheright until it stops.
8. Slowlyopen the inlet shut-off valve and purgethesystem of anyair.
9. Allowthe TO cartridgetoflush to drain for 5 minutes or until the water is clear.
10. Close the TO flush valve.
11. Connect the 24VAC Transformer from the 115-Volt receptacle.
Every6-12 months – Sanitize the storagetank:
1. Refer to “Start-up” section - steps1-3, for sanitation procedure.
Every1 to 1-1/2years – Replace the RO cartridge:
1. Close the inlet shut-off valve.
2. Disconnect the 24VAC transformer from the115-Volt receptacle.
3. Open the TO flush valve to relievethe pressure. Observethat the pressure gauge
reads zero.
4. Followthe instructions onthe RO cartridgelabel. Place abucket under thecartridge

10. Connect the 24VAC transformer tothe115-Volt receptacle.
11. Demand water fromoneofthe piecesofequipment serviced bythe MRS-200 to
drain downthe storageto the point the solenoid energizes and the system begins
make RO water. Stop demanding water oncethis occurs.
12. Allowthe system to flushat least 1hour or until 1gallon ofoutlet water has been
produced. Checkthe water qualityto determine ifthe RO membrane is functioning
correctly.

13. Rotate the handle on theproductwater 3-waysample valveso it is pointing towards
the storagetank connection (rear of unit).
Performance Monitoring (optional)
Once the systemhasbeen flushed initially,theoutlet and drain water flowratesand water
qualitycan be measured. These measurementscan be taken at anytime and compared with
the initial values to detect anychanges in systemperformance.Productwater volume and/or
qualityare affected byanumberoffactors includinginlet water pH,dissolved solids, pressure
and temperature. Changes in these parameters will affect system performance.
Published performancespecifications are basedon certain standardized conditions. Variations
fromthese conditions can be expected to affectactual measuredperformance.These
conditions assume newfilter/RO cartridges,differential pressure acrosstheRO module equal to
specification pressure and inlet water temperature at the specification value. Increases
(decreases) in pressureand/or temperaturewill result in increased (decreased) production
rates.
Close the tankinlet valveand open the product water sample valve to obtain a sample. The flow
ratescan bemeasuredwith astopwatch and agraduatedcylinder or calibrated measuringcup.
Thedrain water flowratecan bemeasuredfrom the end of the red tubingin a similar manner.
Inlet water flow= Outlet (Product) Water Flow+ Drain Water Flow
Waterqualitycan bedetermined bymeasuring the total dissolved solids (TDS) oftheoutlet
water sample. Alaboratoryor hand held TDS/conductivitytester should be used forthis
measurement. Optionally,TDS measurements are used to calculate Total Dissolved Solids
percent reduction as anindication ofsystem performance.Percentreduction can be used to
determine when the RO cartridgeshould bereplaced.
TDS Measurement
1. Rinse aclean cup or graduated cylinder twice withthe outletwater. Thencollect enough
freshsample tomeasurewith your conductivitytester.
2. Followingthe instructions ofyour conductivitytester, measure and record the
TDS/conductivityvalue of the outlet water sample.
TDS Reduction Calculation (optional):
1. Obtain anoutlet water sample and TDSmeasurement as described above.
2. Obtain an inlet water sample in the same manner as above, but fromthe inlet water
source to theMRS-200 system.
3. Usingyour TDS/conductivitytester, measure and record the TDS/conductivity value of
the inlet water sample.
4. Todetermine percent reduction, applythetwoTDS/conductivityvalues obtained tothe
followingequation:
Inlet TDS – Outlet TDS
Inlet TDS x100 = % TDS Reduction

5. For example:
Ifthe Inlet TDS measurement is 600 ppm and the outlet TDS measurement is 48 ppm,
then
600 ppm – 48ppm
600 ppm x100 = 92% TDS reduction
This means that the MRS-200 system has removed 92% ofthedissolved solids from the
inlet water.
6. The ROcartridgeshouldbe changed every1to1-1/2 yearsor when thepercent
reduction falls below90%.
Aform has been provided belowto record these measurements andmonitor system
performance.
