BlackDiamond DC Power Supply Installation Note 4
Removing and Replacing a Power Supply
•For DC power cables, use 4 AWG, high-strand-count wire cable.
Attaching the Cabling
To attach the cable to the lugs, perform the following steps.
1Strip 0.5 inches of insulation from the 4 AWG, high strand-count cable.
2Insert the cable into the cable lugs.
Caution: Ensure that no copper is visible between the lug and the cable insulation.
3Tighten the cable retention screw, using a

torque. The cable retention screw is shown in Figure 3.
Figure 3: 2-stud lug
Each set of power terminals on the DC power supply consists of two 6-mm, metric-threaded,
nickel-plated, brass studs centered 0.625 inch apart. The earth ground studs extend 0.52 inch
(13.2 mm) above the power supply faceplate; the set of positive (+) and negative (–) studs
extend 0.9 inch (22.9 mm) above the faceplate. The nickel plating on the studs enhances
conductivity and resists corrosion.
For convenience, the lock washers and nuts for connecting the source DC cables to the power
terminals are loosely mounted on the studs ready for use.
Removing and Replacing a Power Supply
BlackDiamond power supplies are hot-swappable. You can add a second power supply without
powering off the chassis. If you have two power supplies installed, you can remove one of them
without powering off the chassis.
To remove a power supply, follow these steps:
1Remove the power supply cords from the power supply.
2Unscrew the power supply using a #1 Phillips-head screwdriver.
3Disengage the power supply by rotating the handle out and down, as illustrated in Figure 4.
