1.1 INTENDED USE
The lamp is intended for:
•lighting in workplaces including medical practices
•disinfect surfaces by using light energy at a nominal frequency of 405 nm.
The device must be installed on the ceiling by qualified personnel.
The ceiling must be able to withstand 40 kg per fixing point.
The device is classified as risk class 2 according to EN 62471.
Warning against photobiological danger
UV radiation covers that portion
of the electromagnetic spectrum with a
wavelength between 100 and 400
nanometres (nm) and are divided into three categories
main:
•UVA (315-400 nm)
•UVB (280-315 nm)
•UVC (100-280 nm)
The Siderea lamp in operation in
disinfection emits radiation in the spectrum between
370 and 400 nm, thus emitting only UVA.
This mode of use allows the presence of humans or animals only for certain time limits beyond which personal
protective equipment is required.
The 8-hour exposure time limits are:
•Actinic risk (skin): 145 min
•Richio near UV (eyes): 110 s
These values are indicative for a distance of 200 mm from the light source.
If there is a risk of these exposure limits being exceeded, appropriate Personal Protective Equipment must be
used for:
•Cute exposed;
•Eyes (glasses with UV400 protection);
When operating in Sunlight mode, the lamp is classified as Risk Group Exempt.
However, it cannot be ruled out that particularly photosensitive patients or patients who have taken
photosensitising medication may experience erythema or allergic reactions to light. In this case, discontinue
treatment and use very low illumination levels.
Warning against electrical or fire hazards
Do not use the lamp if its components are damaged. The device must only be installed by qualified
personnel. The device must be installed with a mains disconnection device of omnipolar type and compliant
with IEC 61058-1, fitted with an earth cable.
Check that the supply voltage, indicated on the nameplate, matches
to that of the network.
Do not carry out any maintenance work on the lamp when the power supply is switched on: therefore
disconnect the power cable from the mains before working on it.
Warning of danger from falling masses
Strict adherence to the maximum permissible loads must be observed.

2GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS
2.1 GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF PRODUCT
The device serves to
1. lighting the working environment
2. disinfect surfaces
The two functions cannot be activated at the same time, so the device
is designed to operate in two unique modes:
•Sunlight (SL): to illuminate the working environment, through
lighting of the LEDs in the central panel (1).
Sunlight mode includes lighting on top
of the device (3).
•Bacterial Killer (BKL): for surface disinfection, through
switching on the side panels (2).

SIDEREA BKL - USER MANUAL - EN
Rev 0.0 Page 6a 13
2.1.1 Sunlight Mode (SL)
The light source consists of LEDs on the bottom panel and the top of the
device.
The LEDs on the bottom panel are characterised by solar spectrum
emission.
The light from the lower panel is diffused by passing through specific diffusers that allow for a regular and uniform
light spot at every illumination level and to distribute the light evenly in the room, without creating shadows or
obscuring it from the operator.
Adjustment of the light intensity must be carried out with the radio remote control and can be performed in
synchronisation with the pre-set Faro dental lamps.
Five standard scenarios are available for the selection of different illuminance combinations in order to always
provide the necessary visual comfort.
2.1.2 Bacterial Killer Mode (BKL)
The light source consists of LEDs with a limited emission spectrum
between 370 and 415 nm whose light passes through high transmittance
panels.
Blue light at a nominal wavelength of 405-nm is recognised
a treatment for environmental microbial contamination (antimicrobial
blue light [aBL]).
It is recognised that microbes are less able to develop resistance
to aBL than to conventional antibiotics, due to the multi-target characteristics
of aBL. Furthermore, it is well recognised that aBL is much less harmful to host
cells than UV-C irradiation.
The recognised mechanism responsible for the antimicrobial effects of aBL (405-nm) is the excitation of endogenous
photosensitising porphyrins and the subsequent generation of singlet oxygen, resulting in lipid peroxidation, DNA
damage, cell wall damage and cell apoptosis of microbial cells.
The bactericidal efficacy of Siderea BKL has been tested on:
−Escherichia coli ATCC 8739
−Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 43300
Virucidal efficacy was evaluated on:
−SARS-COV-2
The disinfectant efficacy of the device depends on the dose (J/cm^2) delivered to the irradiated surface.
Siderea has 3 per-set disinfection programmes of different duration and effectiveness available.
−Short cycle 15 minutes: recommended in the patient-to-patient break
−Average cycle: 90 min recommended during lunch break
−Long cycle: 180 min recommended overnight
The maximum efficacy of these cycles at a distance of the lamp from the surface of 1350 mm (assumed as the typical
distance between the light source and dental unit chair) is as follows (values) subject to tolerance

4.2.4 Syncro Mode With Dental Lamp
The 'Syncro' mode is specifically designed to improve user comfort in order to reduce the glare effect generated when
switching from observing a strongly lit surface (e.g. oral cavity with dental lamp) to a dimly lit surface (e.g. dental quiver).
The 'Syncro' mode allows the illuminance value of the Sidèrea to be changed automatically by controlling the dental
lamp.
In 'Syncro' mode, the dental lamp acts as 'Master', i.e. it has control over the room lamp.
A small delay in synchronisation may occur between the dental lamp and Siderea. This is due to the
communication protocol, this effect is normal and not a defect.
To be enabled, the "Syncro" function requires a pairing procedure called "Pairing" (which only needs to be carried out
once) in order to create the link between the two lamps. Subsequently, the "Syncro" function can be enabled and/or
disabled by the user via the button on the dental lamp.
4.2.5 Pairing Procedure
The 'Pairing' procedure is only necessary at the first connection, however, itcan be
repeated in the case of replacement of the dental lamp or the electronics of either lamp
in the system.
If there is more than one ambient lamp in the study, make sure that the other lamps are
switched off or on for more than 60 seconds.
1. Energise the Sidèrea ambient lamp you wish to couple.
The ambient light remains in listening/waiting mode for up to 60 sec.
2. Press the "syncro" button on the dental lamp for at least 3 sec. but no longer than 6 sec. otherwise
the procedure is aborted and the software continues as if the button had not been pressed. Upon
receiving the "Pairing" request from the dental lamp, the ambient lamp activates the green LED
on the frame.
3. Press the programming button on the radio control within 60 seconds of operation 2
(syncro), the green LED flashes twice and then goes out.
4.3 RADIO CONTROL BATTERY REPLACEMENT
The battery can be accessed through the door on the back of the radio control; replace it with one of the same type,
observing the polarity indicated:
MOD: LR-23A/12V
