The FATAR MIDI PEDALBOARD MODEL MP-1 isthe perfect way to expand your
MIDI system. Studio and stage musicians a like will appreciate the added flexibility
ofaccessing MIDI Note and Program events by foot,both for playing traditional
"bass" lines and for innovative ideas like triggering MIDI percussion and sound
effects,or even for inputting commands to a MIDI lighting controller! The MIDI
PEDALBOARD ismanufactured sothat all functions can be easily executed by the
feet.

"BINARY LED DISPLAY:
Those familiar with older style"bass pedals" may, on first glance, think that the 8-4-
2-1LEDs on the leftside ofthe MIDI PEDALBOARD are "footage" indicators. In
reality,though, they are something quite differentnumbers! How? It requires a little
simple math on your part. All you need to do isadd the values ofthe illuminated
LEDS toget the result. Some examples follow (o= off/= on)
^OCTAVE ASSIGNMENT:
Depress and release the octave footswitch; then, within 3 seconds, play the
appropriate pedal according to the following chart:

As a frame ofreference, Note 60is Middle C on thepiano; a piano has a range ofNote
21(lowest A) to Note 108(highest C); anda typical 5 - octave synthesizer has a range
ofNote 36(lowest C) to 96(highest C). Depending on the MIDIdevice connected to
yourMIDIPEDALBOARD, some octaves may not play, ormaygive unusualresults.
CHANNEL ASSIGNMENT:
Depress and release the CH. MIDI footswitch and thecurrentMIDI Channel will be
diplayedby the Binary LEDS for 3 seconds. During this period oftime, assign a new
channel by playng the appropriate pedal according to the following chart:

Upon new channelselection, thedisplayimmediately returnsto thecurrentOCTAVE
setting. You will not see the new channelassignment displayed untilthe CH. MIDI
footswhitch is depressed once more. Note also that,in this case, thesum ofthe
numers indicatedby theilluminatedLEDs is allways one less thantheactualMIDI
Channelassigned. This isbecause in the digitalMIDI code itself, whatwe thinkofas
Channels 1 -16isrepresented by thenumbers 0-15.
PROGRAM ASSIGNMENT:
MIDI Program Change numbers from 00- 99(or 1 - 100,if your connected MIDI
device startscountingat Program 1)may be sent in ascending or descending order on
thecurrentlyselected MIDI Channel bydepressing the appropriatePRESETbutton.At
turn-on,yourMIDIPEDALBOARDloads00(Program1)intoitsbuffer.Bydepressing
PRESET first,01( Program 2)will be sent; depressing PRESET firstsends 99(Program
100).You may continuein either direction, and each depression ofa PRESET button
will increment or decrement thelast numbersent. Thus to send a highernumbered
program, you willneed to depressthePRESET buttonseveral times, and"countup"to
it.(If theprogram numberyou wantis between 51and 100, you can use thePRESET
buttonand "count down" instead.)There is no indicatorfor thecurrentlyselected
program; refer to the displayon theconnected MIDI device to confirm yourselection.
