tion of our products. It is important to
read, understand and follow all instruc-
tions shipped with the products. In addi-
tion, listed below are some other important
safety instructions and precautions you
should follow:
• To properly install a light assembly:
you must have a good understanding of
automotive electrical procedures and
systems, along with proficiency in the
installation and use of safety warning
e uipment.
• When drilling into a vehicle structure,
be sure that both sides of the surface
are clear of anything that could be
damaged.
• You should fre uently inspect the light
system to ensure that it is operating
properly and that it is securely at-
tached to the vehicle.
• Refer to the instruction sheets packed
with related products for additional
precautions and information.
• File these instructions in a safe place
and refer to them when maintaining
and/or reinstalling the product.
Failure to follow all safety precautions and
instructions may result in property damage,
serious injury, or death to you or others.
I. GENERAL.
This instruction sheet provides directions for
installation of the Federal Raydian™ series warning
system on a vehicle roof. A vehicle-specific mounting
hook is purchased separately and is required to com-
plete the warning system installation.
II. UNPACKING.
After unpacking the light bar carefully check all
envelopes shipping labels and tags before removing or
destroying them. Ensure that the parts listed in the KIT
CONTENTS LIST are contained in the packing carton.

NOTE
Refer to the Installation and Maintenance
Instructions packed with the Raydian lightbar
for electrical installation instructions.
IV. INSTALLATION ON VEHICLE ROOF.
CAUTION
To avoid injury and damage to the unit an
assistant should help handle the Raydian
lightbar.
NOTE
The Raydian lightbar has the mounting brack-
ets pre-positioned for mounting on the Ford
Crown Victoria. If the light assembly will be
mounted on a Crown Victoria skip steps A and
C.
A. Loosen the 3/8-16 hex nuts sufficiently to allow
the mounting brackets to be adjusted in and out to fit
the roof of the vehicle. If the Raydian is being installed
on a vehicle with a steep forward slope roof like the
Chevy Impala install the wedges between the HotFoot
and the bottom extrusion of the lightbar on the forward
track as shown in figures 1 and 2.
B. Place the Raydian lightbar on the vehicle roof at
the desired location. Usually the unit should be in-
stalled so that the mounting hooks attach at or immedi-
ately behind the door center post.
C. Adjust both mounting brackets in or out until
the rubber mounting pads rest near the edge of the roof
or gutter where the roof is most rigid. Center the unit so
that the end of the assembly and edge of the roof are
equidistant on each side of the vehicle.
IMPORTANT
Plan all cable routing before completing the
installation.

roof. The unit should be placed on some soft rags or
cardboard to avoid marring the lightbar. Turn the
lightbar assembly over so that the bottom of the unit
faces up. Tighten the 3/8-16 hex nuts (four on each
mounting bracket) to 20 lb-ft. Place the light assembly
on the vehicle’s roof in the previously determined
position.
E. To fasten the mounting hook and complete the
installation refer to the Vista hook hardware kit
instruction sheet (Federal Part No. 2561635) that is
included in the supplied Vista hook hardware kit.

VI. BASIC MAINTENANCE.
A. Cleaning the Plastic Domes.
Ordinary cleaning of the plastic domes can be
accomplished by using mild soap and a soft rag. Should
fine scratches or a haze appear on a lens they can best
be removed with a specialty plastic cleaner/polish such
as Plexus® and a soft cloth. Alternatively non-abrasive
high quality one-step automotive past cleaner/wax may
be used.
CAUTION
The use of other materials such as strong
detergents solvents petroleum products etc.can
cause crazing (cracking) of the plastic domes.
B. Halogen Lamp Replacement.
WARNING
A serious injury may result if the lamp is
touched when hot. Always allow the lamp
to cool before removing. Halogen lamps
are pressurized and if broken can result in
flying glass. Always wear gloves and eye
protection when handling the lamps.
CAUTION
Service life of the lamp will be shortened if the
glass bulb portion is touched. If the glass bulb
has been handled clean carefully with a grease
solvent.
