OVERVIEW
The FY-20Aisaflightstabilizerfor fixedwingaircraft basedoninertial motionsensing. It utilizes
a3-axisgyroscope and3-axisaccelerometer tocontroltheaircraft attitudeinall 3dimensions.Theunit
can beactivatedorde-activatedviaasparechannel fromyour receiver.Functionsinclude:
•Levelflight –whenyouneedit,theFY-20Awillautomaticallylevelthe flightattitudeofyour
aircraft.Ifyouarejust learningtofly,thiswillhelpyougainexperience, log moreflyingtimeand
increaseyourconfidence.TheFY-20Acan be leftactivated throughoutthe flightduration,from
takeoffuntil youlanding.
•EmergencyRecovery –incaseyouloseorientationoryoufeeltheaircraft isoutofcontrol,
activatetheFY-20Aviatheswitchand releaseofthecontrol sticks.The FY-20Awillautomatically
bringtheplaneback tolevelflight.
•Precision Flying:Forexperienced pilot,FY-20Acanhelpyouachieve moreleveledandprecise
flightpaths,especiallywhenflyingand landinginstrongwind.
•First Person View(FPV):ForlongdistanceflyingorFPV,theFY-20Awill takeonthe jobof
levelingtheplanefor you. Justpointtheplanewhereyouwanttogo and enjoytheview!
SystemWorking Principle
The FlightStabilizationSystem(FSS) intheFY-20Aisan integrated 3-axisgyroscope and 3-axis
accelerometer.Thisformsacomprehensive inertialbasednavigationplatformthatcalculates3Dflight
attitudeusingproprietaryFeiYuTech algorithm.
When activatedinBalanced-Mode,theFSSdetectsanychangestothemodel shorizontalattitude.
If attitudechangeisdetected,theunitwill sendoutcontrollingsignalstothe plane sailerons,elevator
and ruddertocounter that change.
Bycontinuouslydoingthis,theplaneiskeptinastateofequilibrium, resultinginasmoothlevel
flight.Theaircraft pitch attitude (nose upordown)isautomaticallycontrolledviatheelevator,while
aircraftrolliscontrolledthroughtheailerons.Flightdirectiontothe left orrightisautomatically
corrected viatherudderservo.
Toachievelevelflight,the pilotneed onlyreleasetheflightcontrolsticks(aileron,elevator,
rudder)sothattheyreturntothetransmitterneutral(middle)position.Themodelwillimmediately
reverttolevel flight.
When usedinthe3D-Mode,ifanaircraft isinanacrobaticflight,theactivatedFSSwill
automaticallycountertherollingspeeddetected bythe 3-axisgyrosusingall3-axiscontrols(rudder,
aileron andelevator). Theplane willthereforemaintainitslastattitude state.
The FY-20Acan beusedinanyenvironmentbothindoors andoutdoors, andinanyweather
condition.Afterinstallation, itdoesnotneedanyotherinitialization. Just switchonthepower andyour
planecantakeoffinstableflight.

RemoteControlsystemrequirement:
The FY-20AhasbeentestedtoworkwiththefollowingRC systems:
•Robbe-FutabaPPM/PCM1024/ PCMG3mode,2.4GHzsystems
•Graupner/JRPPM8,PPM12,SPCMmode
•MPX PPM8,PPM12withUNImode;
•Anyremotecontrol system usingthestandardof1.5msneutralposition.
FY-20A Flight Modes
a) The FY-20Acan beactivatedtoflyin3flightmodes.Youmaychoosetheseflightmodesviaone
free receiver channelanda3-positionswitchfromyour computerradio:
•Mode1: FY-20ADeactivated. Inthismode,all control oftheaircraft isbythe pilot. FY-20A
doesnotparticipateinflightcontrol.
•Mode2:3D-Mode.Inthismode,FY-20Awill automaticallyrecognizethelatestpositionof
theaircraft,andgivecontrollingsignaltokeeptheaircraft at thelastattitudeuponactivation
of3D-Mode.All3-axiswillbestabilized,makingyour3Dacrobaticmovementsmoother.
However,pleasenotethat thislast attitudewillbekeptfor lessthan10seconds.Continuous
pilotinputisstill compulsoryfor safeaerobaticflying.
•Mode3:Autobalancemode.Wheninthismodeandwithyourtransmittercontrolsticksat
center, the FY-20Awillcontinuouslysend outcontrollingsignal(aileron, elevator,rudder)to
ensuretheaircraft maintainsitshorizontallevelflightattitudeandstabledirection.Inthis
mode FY-20Awillnotallowacrobaticflights.
b) Toselectthemodes,setyour End PointsAdjustment(EPA) for the3-PositionSwitchasfollows:

c) Youmayalsouse a2-positionswitch,atmaximumandminimumEnd Points(EPA)toactivateor

d) If the FY-20AdoesnotdetectanyincomingsignaltotheSwitchChannelInput,itwill
automaticallyengageMode3- AutoBalanceMode.However,weDONOTrecommend flying
the unitwithnosignalinputtotheSwitchChannel. Itispossiblethattheautobalancewillnot
functionproperlyif theSwitchchannelisleft open.
e) WeDONOTrecommendlandinginMode2:3D-Mode.In3D-Modethe aircraftattitudeisnot
tuned forsmoothlanding.
f) PleasenotethattheFY-20Aoperationdoesnotinvolve theThrottlechannel.TheFY-20Ahasno
controloveryouraircraft Throttle.Yourthrottlechannelshouldbe connecteddirectlyfromyour
ESCtoyour Receiver(channel 3for example), andoperatedinasafemanner.
g) Warning:The AutoBalanceMode willprovide asmootherleveled landingforyouraircraft.
However,notethattheturningradiusismuch largerwhenFSSisactivated.Please ensureyour
landingareahasadequateclearance for thislargerradius.

1.Removeallexistingmixingfunctionalreadyprogrammedinyourradio.
2.TheFY20Awilldoallthedifferentialmixing,not yourradio.

resetting andinitializationisrecommended:
1. The devicehasnotbeenusedforalongtime.
2. Thereisachangeinenvironmentaltemperatureofover 30degrees.
3. When in AutoBalance Mode,andtheinstalleddeviceinthehorizontalposition,theplane
control surfacesbegintomoveanddeflectbyitself, without input fromthepilot.
Initialization /Reset Procedure
Installthejumperasshowninthispicture:
Power-ON the FY-20Aand keepitstationaryforatleast20
seconds. Youwillnoticetheredlightblinkwithtwodifferentrates.
After20secondsthere-setting/initializationiscomplete.
Disconnectthepower,unplugthejumperandremove(keepit ina
safeplace for futureuse).
NOTE:
•Carryoutthisre-settingprocedureonlyifthethreeconditions(above)occur. Wedonot
recommend regularscheduled re-setting. ItisNOTnecessaryand NOTrecommended.
•Thestabilizerunitdoesnotneedtobe inahorizontalposition duringinitialization.However,
youmust ensurethereisnovibrationduringthisprocess. Ifyoususpect shakinghad occurred,
justrestarttheinitialization/ resettingprocess.
ElectricalConnection and Diagram
a) FY-20APower
•The FY-20Aoperatesbetween4to6voltsinput.
•FY-20AispoweredviatheReceiverconnection.
•If yourplane iselectricpowered,theReceiverpowersupplyisnormallyfromtheESC.
Alternately, youcan supplythe Receiverand FY-20Aviaaseparatebatteryeliminationcircuit
(BEC).
b) Connectionbetween theFY-20AandRC Receiveroutputisviathesuppliedwire:
FY-20Arequiresaminimumof5-channelRC receiver.
c) 3Receiverchannelsareused foraileron,elevatorandruddersignaloutput. Connectthese3
receiveroutputsignalstothe FY-20Awiththesuppliedwires.
d) 1Receiver channelisrequiredtocontroltheFY-20Aworkingmodeviaa3-positionswitch.
e) ExampleMinimum5channelreceiver:

Connection Warning
Beverycareful whenyouareplugginginyourservos/connectors. Wronginstallationcanresultin
damagetoyour powersupplyor your Receiver.

Forallfixwingaircrafts(includingthetraditionalrudder,aileronandelevatorplanes,andplaneswith
aileron andelevatormixing,andsoon) iftherudder isNOTusedinanymixingfunction,youcan have
twooptions,asshownbelow:
1. KeeptheFY20Arudderchannel(RUDIN,RUDOUT)open(not used).Connectthe Rudderservo
directlytoyour RC Receiver.
2. ConnectyourReceiverChannel4toFY20A(RUD IN)and
connect therudderservo toRUD OUT.
Aileron-ElevatorMixing
Forthefollowingaircraft:DeltaWingwithElevatorsignalmixing
(e.g.FlyingwingElevon):
DifferentialOutputiscarriedoutbyusingajumperasshownhere.Thejumperhastobeinstalled
before poweringON. Ifyouinstall itafter poweringON, themixing functionwillnottakeeffect.
Donot removethisjumper. Leaveitinstalledaslongasyouareusingthemixingfunction.
Rudder-ElevatorMixing
The JumpershouldNOTBE USED ifyouwant todoRudder-Elevator Mixing,becauseFY-20Adoes
not supportDifferential-Modestabilizationfor rudder-elevator mixing.
Therefore,therudder-elevatordifferentialcontrolforV-tailedplanesmusthaveanadd-onmixing
devicefor thecorrespondingdifferentialchannelbefore connectiontotheservos:
VIBRATION CONTROL
a) TheFSSintheFY-20Aisvibration-sensitive.Tooptimize itsstabilizationcapability,vibrations
reachingtheunit mustbekeptataminimum.
b) Thereforewheninstallingthisflightstabilizer,wehighlyrecommend thatyouinstallitwiththe
suppliedshockabsorbingplatform.
c) The algorithmintheFY-20Acompensatesfornormallevelsofflightvibration.However,ifthe
vibration experienced bytheunit exceedstheacceptablelevel, it willNOTworknormallyormay
even stopworkingaltogether.
d) Tokeepvibrationataminimum, installtheFY-20Aawayfromtheengineoranyothervibration
sources.
e) The included shock-absorbingmountwillmeetthedampingrequirementsofelectricpowered
aircraftsandmostgas/nitroplanes.
f) If youreceiveyour shockabsorbingmountuninstalled(A), assembleitasshownbelow(B):
g) UsethesuppliedVelcrostripstomounttheFY-20Atothe
suspended platform.
h) Mounttheentireunittotheplane usingdoublesided tape
(recommended), Velcro, screwsor glue.
Onlythe vibrationdampingpad isenoughwhenthevibrationisnot
sobig.
Thesupplied DamperMountwilltakecareofmostaircraft
vibrations,unlessit is(thevibration)too severe.
WARNING:VIBRATION CHECK
Even withthe shockabsorbingmount,youraircraftinstallationmaynotmeetthedamping
requirementsoftheFSS.Toconfirmcorrectvibrationdamping,pleasefollowthisprocedure:
A. Afterconnectingall wiresbetweentheReceiver,FY-20AandServos,installtheunitas
recommended (ensurecorrect orientation).
B. Run theplaneengineor motoratdifferentthrottlelevels. DONOT TAKE OFF.
C. Movethethrottlelevel todifferentpositionsand maintainit for 20secondsateachposition.
D. At eachthrottleposition,observethestateoftheredandbluelightsflashingfromtheFY-20A.
E. If theredandbluelightsbothstay ONsolid,thenthevibrationdampeningisnotenough.You
willneedtoaddadditionaldampeningsupportor changetheinstallationlocation.
F. If the red lightmaintainsasteadyflashing,and thebluelightisOFF,thisindicatesthevibration
dampeningrequirementshavebeenmet.
FY-20AINSTALLATION: ORIENTATION, POSITION & LEVEL
i. The FY-20Ahasanarrowprinted onthetopofit. Orientthearrowtowardsthefrontofthecraft
(i.e.directionofflight).
ii. When installing,pleasekeep theFY-20Ahorizontalandascloseaspossibletothe "Centreof
gravity"(CG)oftheaircraft.
iii. The controlbenchmarkofthe FY-20Aisitshorizontalposition.Therefore,ensuretheFY-20Ais
inthehorizontalpositionwhentheplaneisinlevel flight.
iv. If thereisdeviationbetweentheFY-20Ahorizontalposition andtheplane slevelflight, it may
causetheneutralvaluetobedifferentbetween the ManualMode and theauto BalanceMode.
Thisdifferencemayresultinthefollowing:
FY-20APre-Flight Checking and Debugging
PRE-FLIGHT CHECK:
Thefollowingprocedureexplainshowtocheckforcorrectservo controldirection upon FY-20A
activation.YoushouldalsocheckthattheFY-20Adoesnotcontroltheaircraft servoswheninMode1
(DeactivatedMode).
STEP1: DIALADJUSTMENT
AdjustthethreedialsontheFY-20Asothatthearrowisinthemiddle,asshownbelow.Then
rotatealldialsinone direction (doesnotmatterwhich direction):
Servo (bluearrow)isplugged wrongly
resultinginthesignalwire(white)missing
theFY20Asignalpin.
Thisresultsintheincomingpower cable
(RED)andservo wire(BLACK) short
circuiting(redarrows).
Thiswillshortcircuityour batteryor BEC!

STEP 2: AUTOBALANCEMODECHECK
Place theplaneonahorizontalsurfacewithboththewingsandpitch leveled.Centrethe rudder
surface. Movethe3-position switchsothat theFY-20Aisinthe AutoBalanceMode.
STEP 3: AILERON CHECK
•Inclinetheplanetotheright(rollright).Theaileronsshouldgiveacontrolsignaltocounterthis
roll direction(seebelow). Similaractionshouldoccurwhen rolled tothe left.Ifthe aileronsmove
correctly,the knobhasbeenturnedinthecorrectdirection.Youcan nowadjustgainbymoving
nearer(lowgain)orfurther
away(highgain)from
center:
•If the aileronsdonot
followthemovements
shownabove,simplyturn
theaileron knob tothe
oppositeside(beyond
centre).Youshouldnow
seethecorrectservo
movement.
STEP 4: ELEVATOR CHECK
•Incline theplaneNOSE
UP.Youshouldseethe
elevatormovedown.
And whenyoumovethe
NOSEDOWN,the
elevatorshouldmoveup.
MovetheElevatorknob
totheoppositeside
(fromCentre)ifthe
servo movementis
incorrect:
•AdjustElevatorgainaccordingtoyour
aircraft requirement(lowestgainnearestto
centre,highestgainfurtherawayfrom
centre).
STEP 5: RUDDERCHECK
•Rotatetheplaneatitscentreaxisfromleft
toright. Youshouldseethefollowing
action:
•Movethe Rudderknobtotheoppositeside
(fromCentre)iftheservo movementis
incorrect:
•AdjustRuddergainaccordingtoyouraircraft requirement(lowestgainnearesttocentre,highest
gainfurtherawayfromcentre).
STEP 6: FLIGHTTESTAND SENSITIVITYADJUSTMENT
•Steps1to5shouldenableyoutocorrectlysetyour servo movement direction viathe3knobdials.
•Tofine tuneyour aircraftattitude controlviatheFY-20A, someflighttestinghastobeperformed.
•Forthe firstflightit isrecommended thatthegainsnotbesettoo high.Thiswillreducelarge
oscillationor ‘flightovercorrection .
•Afterthe flighttake off,switchthedevicefromMode 1(deactivated)toMode 3(Auto-balance
mode).
•If yousee oscillationofthe wings,thisindicatestheAilerongainissettoo high.Switchbackto
manualmodeandlandthe airplane.Reducethesensitivity(movedial towardscentreposition)and
flyagain.Youshouldseeimprovementinwingattitude.Adjustuntilyouaresatisfiedwiththe
levelofwingstabilization.
•ToomuchElevatorgainwill showthetailmovingupanddown(rocking). Too muchRuddergain
willshowtail wagging. Reduce gainuntilthisflightovercorrectionisgone.
•Alternately,ifyoufind theflightcorrectionisnotenough, youcan increasegainaccordingly.
WARNING: SAFETYPRECAUTION –MUSTREAD
i. The purposeoftheFY-20A(FSS)istostabilize theaircraft.Itisnotan Anti-Stalldevice.The
stabilizationactionoftheFY-20Awillfailif theaircraftisstalled.
ii. The aircraft directioniscontrolledbyyou, atalltimes.Make sureyouknowwhereyouaregoing.
iii. TheFY-20Aisforyourenjoyment. Donotflytheplane intoacrowded area,whereyouraircraft
can causeseriousinjuryifitweretocrash. Pleaseberesponsiblewhen usingthisproduct.
iv. Besidesthe regularpre-flightchecks(werecommend achecklist),alwayscheckthecorrect
operationofthestabilizer on thegroundpriortotakeoff.
v. AnyelectronichardwareonanRC aircraftcanfailovertime.Pleaseassess youraircraftand
electronicscondition beforeuse.Wearenotresponsibleforanylossesasaconsequence ofusing
thisproduct.
vi. PleaseaskanexperiencedRCPlanepilotforassistance ifyouareabeginner.Itisabsolutely
criticalthat youget flight basicsbeforeproceeding. Youalsoneeddirectionstocorrectlyassemble,
takeoffand controlyour RC Model.Wehighlyrecommend joiningyour local RC Modelingclub.
vii. Neverflyclosetopeople,buildings,wires,vehicles,treesorclosed spaces.Youcouldseriously
injuresomeone.
viii. Minimumflyingdistanceshouldbe20feetfromyourselforothers.Learnaboutemergency
proceduresshouldyoulosecontrolofyour aircraft.
ix. Keep theRC Modelandtherelated equipmentawayfromchildren.RCplanesarenottoys.
Children mustbesupervisedatalltimesif theyareallowed tofly.
x. Pleaseoperateyour RC plane withinthepermittedareaofyour local government. For moredetails,
pleasecheckwithyour local council or government.
xi. If youarenotusing2.4GHzspread spectrumradio,neverturnon yourradiobeforecheckingand
re-checkingthatyou'rethe onlyone usingthefrequency.Youcouldcauseacrashofanother
aircraftif thefrequencyisthesame. Forsecurity;pleaseobeytothe local frequencyregulation.
xii. Never usetheremotecontrol withinthree milesofyour local airport.Youcouldendanger fullscale
aircraftinstruments.Livescouldbelost.
xiii. Keepall electricalequipmentawayfromrainwater, moistureandextremehightemperature.
xiv. DO NOTOPENanyFY-TECHAttitudeFlightStabilizationSystem(AFSS)unitoranyofour
other modules.Openingor dismantlingthemodulecover willnullanykind ofwarrantyweandour
distributorhaveontheproduct youpurchased.

Install theFY-20AHorizontally.Ensurethatyouinstallthe
unit withtheArrowpointingtowardstheaircraft nose
(directionofflight).Alsoensurethatthe receiverisfixed

plane tothe left.Ifthecontroldirection iswrong,rotatetheAILdialknob inthe opposite
direction.
f. Elevator:iftheplanenoseispitchedup,theFY-20Astabilizerautomaticallymoveselevator
down.Iftheplaneispitcheddown,theFY-20Astabilizerautomaticallymovestheelevator
up.Ifthe controldirectioniswrong,rotatetheELEdialknobinthe oppositedirection.
g. Rudder: Ifthe plane'snoseisrotated totherightrapidly, theFY-20Astabilizerautomatically
movestheruddertothe left.Ifthe plane'snoseisrotated tothe left,therudderwill
automaticallymovetotheright. Ifthecontroldirection iswrong,rotatetheRUDdialknob
intheoppositedirection.
h. CheckthattheFY-20Aisinstalled firmlyonthe vibration-absorbingmount. Closethe
cockpit.Installationiscompleted.Testflytoadjust gain.
