GENERAL INTRODUCTION
Application description
Armless Recoiler Application, using linear analog position feedback for both the mandrel and the sensor
positioner. The sensor seeks the web edge. The sensor follows the web edge as long as the Auto
Permissive input is high. Once the Auto Permissive input goes low, the sensor position and the mandrel
position are read. The mandrel then follows the sensor positioner movements.
A CDP-01-MHH is used for this application. Drive 1 is not used. The mandrel is connected to Drive 2
and the sensor positioner is connected to Drive 3.
Software part numbers
The software part numbers are located on the side of the CDP-01 housing. They include the Matrix Setup
no. (MS) , State Machine no. (SM) and firmware version ( Dx ).

OVERVIEW OF FUNCTION
Operator control options
The CDP-01 signal amplifier can be operated by way of the CDP-01 control panel (internal
operation) for setup purposes only. For normal operational control, the parallel port must be
used. Control is to be supplied with a remote control panel or programmable logic controller.
The symbols below are used for the various operator control options in the following:
Internal operation
External operation
Special features of external control
The mode keys (Automatic, Servo-Center, Manual) of the
CDP-01 control panel are disabled.
If the cable to the parallel port ( -X7 ) of the CDP-01 is
disconnected, the operation mode is changed to Manual
mode.

The panel is set to drive 3.
The sensor mode is set to Edge Right.
The sensor positioner is switched to Automatic.
The sensor searches for the web edge.
When the web edge is detected, if Auto Permissive is set,
the sensor will continue to follow the edge of the web.
If Auto Permissive is not set, the positions of the sensor
positioner and the mandrel are recorded.
The mandrel now follows the position of the sensor
positioner.
The guide point or system gain can be altered, if desired.

TROUBLESHOOTING
An incorrect setting on the CDP-01 is often the cause for incorrect or unwanted guiding
characteristics. Faults and the procedures for rectifying the faults are described in more detail in
the CDP-01 Reference Manual, chapter ‘Frequent setting errors’. Application-specific faults are
explained below.
Fault diagnosis - Fault rectification
Fault: The sensor moves in the wrong direction in automatic mode.
Remedy: Select ‘Manual’mode and change the polarity (guide direction) for drive 3.
Reference: CDP-01 Reference Manual, chapter: “Changing The Guide Direction”
Fault: The mandrel moves in the wrong direction in automatic mode.
Remedy: Select ‘Manual’mode and change the polarity (guide direction) for drive 2.
