Congrats on your foc.us moovs neuro-
stimulator, lets get started!
1. Connect your foc.us v2 and moovs
together
2. Stick the hydrogel pad to your clean dry
head and then attach the moovs
3. take charge - start your neuro-modulation
session
Please ensure you have the foc.us+ connect
software installed on your computer.
Quick Start

3
If you suffer epilepsy, seisures, brain
lessions, bipolar depression or severe heart
disease you should not us a foc.us headset.
If you experience any short term negative
effects with focus you should stop use
immediately. foc.us moovs is not a toy and
is not intended for use by anyone under
the age of 18 years old. Do not position
electrodes over cuts, grazes or damaged
skin. Allow at least 48 hours between
usage. Do not touch the metal electrodes as
this can lead to burns.

and connect the dock to a 5V power supply
e.g. your computer.
You must have the drivers or software
installed on your computer for charging
function to work correctly.

The programs menu contains ve default
programs which you can tailor to your
needs.
The setup menu allows you to change
device specic settings.
Menus control

7
There are four different modes that can be
used for neuro-modulation.
Each mode produces a different electrical
signal shape.
tDCS
transcranial Direct Current Stimulation.
This mode generates a current at a
constant value.
Modes

8
tACS
transcranial Alternating Current Stimulation.
This mode generates a current with an
alternating value shaped like a sine wave.
Frequency setting determines how many
cycles per second will be generated.
Bipolar setting determines if the electrodes
will alternate polarity during a cycle.

9
tRNS
transcranial Random Noise Stimulation
This mode generates a random current
where either the frequency or target current
can be randomized.
tPCS
transcranial Pulsed Current Stimulation.
The mode generates pulses of current
shapes like square waves, where the duty
cycle can be controlled.

10
The maximum voltage setting will
determine the maximum voltage at the
electrodes.
This setting overrides the target current
value and so can prevent a target current
being reached if the resistance of the
electrode or head is too great.
The target current value can be set for all
modes.
The maximum possible setting is 2.0mA
and the device is hardware limited to
2.05mA
If using non-foc.us electrodes please be
careful to ensure the current density is
within considered safe guidelines.

Sham
Setup
When sham mode is enabled the device
ramps up a current but then invisibly turns
it off, whilst the display shows a fake graph.
In blind sham, the device may or may not be
in sham, only later analysis of the session
will conrm if it was a sham session or not.

Bluetooth Low Energy
Updating rmware
The foc.us dock and v2 are Bluetooth Low
Energy devices.
The foc.us Bluetooth specications are
documented online and available for 3rd
party development.
Regularly update your v2 with the newest
rmware for best results.
The rmware update process is controlled
by the foc.us+ connect software.
Please note that updating via Bluetooth can
be interrupted in areas with a high density
of other wi and Bluetooth devices.

14
Connect the moovs electrodes to the foc.us
v2 by inserting the 4pin 2.5mm jack into the
corresponding socket.

Peel & Stick
foc.us hydrogel pads are designed to stick
to clean dry skin.
They can often be reused but should be
changed when they no longer fully stick to
skin.
foc.us moovs attach to the hydrogel pads
via magnetic force

15
X & Y
foc.us moovs are labelled X and Y to
identify which electrode is the cathode and
which is the anode.
Ensure that you have placed the X and Y
correctly according to the program you are
running.

16
It is possible to create many different
stimulation montages using foc.us moovs.
Please register with foc.us+ to nd the right
montage for you. http://foc.us

Trouble shooting
V2 will not charge - ensure dock is
connected and software has been
installed on host PC. Suggested steps: try
connecting to a USB wall socket adapter.
No dock connected - ensure usb is
connected, drivers are installed and only
one instance of software is running.
Suggested steps: Uninstall and reinstall
software

17
Bluetooth not found - ensure Bluetooth is
turned on in device and device is not already
Bluetooth connected to something else e.g.
phone, or dock.
Suggested steps: Reset settings from
foc.us v2 setup menu.
Target current not reached - ensure
maximum voltage setting is high enough
to reach target current given impedance
of system. Suggested steps: increase
maximum voltage setting or reduce
resistance in electrodes or head.
Not sticking to head - ensure skin is clean
and dry before application. Suggested
steps: clean skin area and try with new
hydrogel pads
