BEFORE GETTING STARTED
Read and follow safety instructions. Refer to product data plate(s) for additional operating instructions and specifications. This device is an
independently-mounted operating control for use with water pumps that conform to the ratings listed in the specification table and comply
with type 1.C action.
This is the safety alert symbol. When you see this symbol on your pump or in this manual, look for one of the following signal words and
be alert to the potential for personal injury:
DANGER warns about hazards that will cause serious personal injury, death, or major property damage if ignored.
WARNING warns about hazards that can cause serious personal injury, death, or major property damage if ignored.
CAUTION warns about hazards that will or can cause minor personal injury or major property damage if ignored.
NOTICE indicates special instructions which are important, but not related to hazards. Carefully read and follow all safety
instructions in this manual and on pump.
WARNING
RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK - This product is supplied with a grounding terminals. To reduce the risk of electrical shock, be certain that
incoming power and pump ground conductors are connected to the proper grounding terminals. Disconnect power before working
on or around the product.
This equipment should be installed by technically qualified personnel. Failure to install it in compliance with national and local electrical
and plumbing codes and within Franklin Electric recommendations may result in electrical shock or fire hazard, unsatisfactory performance,
or equipment failure. Installation information is available through pump manufacturers and distributors, or directly from Franklin Electric
at our toll-free number 1-800-701-7894.
This equipment must not be used by children or persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental abilities, or lacking in experience
and expertise, unless supervised or instructed. Children may not use the equipment, nor may they play with the equipment or in the
immediate vicinity.
If the power cord is damaged, it must only be replaced by qualified personnel.
CAUTION
• Keep work area clean, well-lit, and uncluttered.
• Keep safety labels clean and in good condition.
• Wear safety glasses while installing or performing maintenance on pump.
• Do not run pump dry. Fill pump with water before starting or pump will be damaged.
• Make sure all ELECTRICAL POWER IS OFF before connecting any electrical wires. Follow all device wiring instructions provided in the
“Installation: Electrical Wiring” section of this manual.

GETTING STARTED
This owner's manual provides you with the information required
to safely own and operate your flow control switch. Retain these
instructions for future reference.
This flow control switch is of the highest quality workmanship and
material. It has been engineered to give you long and reliable service.
Our products are carefully tested, inspected, and packaged, ensuring
safe delivery and operation.
Inspect Your Shipment
Please examine your product carefully to ensure that no damage
occurred during shipment. If damage is evident, please contact the
place of purchase or report this immediately to your shipping carrier.
They will assist you in replacement or repair, if required. In the case
of shipping damage, the carrier is fully responsible for the product's
safe arrival. Any claim for damage to the shipment, either visible or
concealed, must be made through the shipping carrier.

DANGER Do not use to pump flammable or explosive
fluids such as gasoline, fuel, oil, kerosene, etc. Do not use in explosive
atmospheres. Pump should only be used with liquids compatible with
pump component materials.
Hazardous Pressure
Booster pumps can produce significant
water pressure within a plumbing system.
This could cause damage to pipes and/or
fixtures. To prevent personal or property
damage, install a pressure relief valve
capable of conveying the entire water
volume to a drain. Relieve system pressure
before disassembling the device.
DESCRIPTION
This device activates your pump as water is used in the building.
Once the flow stops, the pump turns o. This will protect your pump
in case of a water shortage or dry run event. This product uses either
115 volts or 230 volts and can be installed on any surface-mounted
pump. When using this device, a pressure tank is not required, but
can be used as an optional accessory.

INSTALLATION: PUMP LOCATION
NOTICE Read and follow all instructions.
WARNING Liquid-tight cables or flexible conduit
and fittings must be used to maintain Type 4 rating.
Installation Procedure: Pump
Choose a clean, well-ventilated location that provides protection from
freezing, flooding, and excessive heat. Provide access for service and
draining of the device and pump.
The device can be installed directly on the pump discharge or
between the pump discharge and first water outlet. For proper
operation, Inline Controls must be installed vertically, as indicated by
the text on the product labeling of the control unit. Ensure the flow
direction arrow is facing upwards (Figure 3).
Auxillary Pressurized Bladder Tank Air Charge Setting:
Generally an auxillary pressurized bladder tank is not required, but
specific application driven conditions can facilitate the need for one.
For example, consider a system where the water flow starts/stops on
short intervals. If the system requires the motor to start beyond the
manufacturer's recommended number of starts per day, a bladder
tank can provide additional water supply, lengthening the total time
between motor starts (for Franklin Electric 4" Submersible Motors
see Table 1). For non-submerged, centrifugal pump/motors, regular
starts more frequent than 10 per minute would benefit from utilizing
a bladder tank.
Installation Consideration for 2-Wire 4" Submersible Biac Start Motors:
It may be necessary to use a small bladder tank with Biac
Start Submersible motors. The tank should be sized to provide
approximately 5 seconds of pressurized water allowing the biac switch
to cool and reset prior to the next pump start.

INSTALLATION: ELECTRICAL WIRING
WARNING Hazardous voltage can shock, burn, or
cause death.
CAUTION Improper wiring can result in permanent
damage to the system. Pump connection must comply with National
Electric Code (NEC) or Canadian Electric Code (CEC)
and all applicable local codes.
WARNING If you are not sure of the proper
electrical connections, employ a competent electrician for the
installation. This ensures the installation complies with all noted
electrical codes.
Disconnect power at electrical panel before making any electrical
connections. Supply voltage must be +/- 10% of device nameplate
voltage.
Low or high voltage can damage the device and will void the
warranty. Connect device to dedicated branch circuit with no other
appliances on it.
A fused disconnect switch or circuit breaker should be placed at
or near the pump as required by local electrical codes.
NOTICE Before installing the device, carefully check
the technical features and make sure they comply with those of the
pump and the system. The control label displays maximum pump HP.
Confirm compatibility between this device and the chosen pump.
NOTICE Follow all indications on the electrical
diagram shown in Figure 9.
WARNING Serious or fatal electrical shock may
result from failure to connect the pump and control to the service
entrance ground. Also ground metal plumbing and all other metal
near the device. When grounding these components, use a wire no
smaller than the power supply wires from the circuit breaker to the
device. To reduce the risk of electric shock, disconnect power before
working on or around the water system.
Installation Procedure: Wiring
1. Disconnect electrical power at the main breaker.
2. Confirm the voltage rating matches the pump/motor's voltage
rating and that the device's hp/kW rating is equal to or greater
than that of the pump/motor.
3. Verify that the dedicated branch circuit for the device is
equipped with a proper listed fuse/listed circuit breaker.
4. Remove the cover of the device by removing the screws as
shown in Figure 6. Cover features and label may vary based
on your model.
5. If mounting in wet environments, liquid-tight cables (Figure 7)
or flexible conduit fitting (Figure 8) are required (not supplied)
to ensure that the enclosure maintains a watertight Type 4
rating. Install the liquid-tight cables or flexible conduit fitting
into the conduit nuts in front of the power supply and motor
connectors (Figures 7 and 8).
WARNING Liquid-tight cables or flexible
conduit and fittings must be used to maintain Type 4 rating
(Figures 7 and 8). If you use water-resistant cables to run
electrical wire to the pump (Figure 7), tighten the supplied
cable/conduit connector to torque of 106 in-lbs (13 Nm).
If you use flexible conduit fittings to run electrical wire to the
pump (Figure 8), tighten the supplied cable/conduit connector to
a torque of 106 in-lbs (13 Nm), compressing the O-ring against
the outside housing of the flow control.

NOTICE Install the cable/conduit connector with
the arrow pointing towards the flow control, as shown
in the figures.
6. Route supply wires through the flexible conduit fitting into the
wiring chamber of the flow control.
7. Connect the supply ground wires to the ground lug in the
wiring compartment.
NOTICE The safety earth ground connection is
marked at its terminal using the symbol (Figure 9).
8. Connect the supply wires to the screw terminal marked
L and N (Figure 9). Use only copper wires rated for at
least 60 °C. Lead wire terminals should be tightened
to a torque of 4 in-lbs (0.5 Nm).
9. Connect the motor wires to the screw terminal marked
U and V (Figure 9). Use only copper wires rated for at
least 60 °C. Lead wire terminals should be tightened
to a torque of 4 in-lbs (0.5 Nm).
10. Replace the cover and tighten the screws. For proper sealing,
the screws should be tightened to a torque of 13 in-lbs (1.5 Nm).
11. Once the cover has been replaced, ensure that the pump has
been correctly primed and reconnect the main breaker.

OPERATION

Startup
Once the power is turned back on to the device, the green “Power On”
LED should be illuminated.
1. Open a service point or tap in the system.
2. The pump should start and the yellow “Pump On” LED
should be illuminated.
3. The pump will run for several seconds to start the system.
You should begin to see water flowing from the faucet.
a. If more time is needed to see water flowing from the
faucet, press and hold the “Restart” button until water
flows from the faucet.
4. Close the service point and the pump will shut o in a few
seconds. The yellow “Pump On” LED should now be o. If the
pump does not shut o, refer to the Troubleshooting section.
5. Your device is ready to control your pump every time you use
water in the building.
Hazardous Pressure
Booster pumps can produce significant water
pressure within a plumbing system. This
could cause damage to pipes and/or fixtures.
To prevent personal or property damage,
install a pressure relief valve capable of
conveying the entire water volume to a
drain. Maximum system working pressure
is not to exceed 174 psi (400 ft of head).
Anti Pump-Lockup Start
If for any reason the pump remains idle for 24 consecutive hours,
the device will carry out an autorun feature to keep the system free
of debris and clogs. The pump/motor will run for approximately
5 seconds during this test.
MAINTENANCE
This device is maintenance-free. In case of system maintenance,
review and understand the following safety warnings and product
instructions prior to performing any service.
Hazardous voltage.
Can shock, burn, or cause death.
Ground the device before connecting to
power supply. Disconnect power before
working on the device, pump, or motor.
Hazardous pressure.
Relieve system pressure before
disassembling the device.
WARNING Before disconnecting the
pump, be sure the fuse box leads are disconnected or the
power is turned o. After reassembling the pump, refer to
these instructions before running.
WARNING Hazardous voltage can shock, burn,
or cause death. Disconnect power to pump before servicing unit.
Draining
NOTICE Disconnecting the pump will not necessarily
drain all other parts of the piping system. If there are
any concerns with the proper procedure or necessity of draining
the suction plumbing, contact a water systems professional.
All piping and water tanks exposed to freezing weather should be
drained. If there are any concerns with the proper procedure to
drain the system’s pressure tank, contact the tank manufacturer
for assistance.

TROUBLESHOOTING
If the device and pump do not seem to be operating correctly
together by starting and stopping with water usage, first check
that the technical features of the flow controller and the pump
are compatible. Use the table and figures in this manual to
confirm compatibility.
For the flow control to properly operate the pump system, water
must pass through the device every time water is needed. The water
supply to the device and pump system is typically from a municipal
or utility water main line. The device can also operate on a cistern or
other non-pressurized water tank, but this should be located above
both the pump and the highest water outlet to ensure water flow
through the system.
Troubleshooting
