aftertherefrigeratorisunpacked.Childrenshouldneverusetheseitemsforplay.
Cartons covered with rugs, bedspreads, plastic sheets, or stretch wrap may
becomeairtightchambers that can quickly causesuffocation.
• Remove all staples from the carton. Staples can cause severe cuts, and ruin
finishesiftheycomeincontactwith otherappliancesorfurniture.
• An empty, discarded ice box, refrigerator, or freezer is a very dangerous
attraction to children. Remove door of any appliance that is not in use,
even if it is being discarded.
•Refrigerator must be plugged into its own 115 Volt, 60 Hz, AC only
electrical outlet. The power cord of the appliance is equipped with a three-
prong grounding plug, for your protection against shock hazards. It must be
plugged directly into a properly grounded three-prong receptacle. The
receptacle must be installed in accordance with local codes and ordinances.
Consult a qualified electrician. DO NOT USE AN EXTENSION CORD OR AN
ADAPTER PLUG.
• If voltage varies by 10 percent or more, performance of your refrigerator may
beaffected. Operatingtherefrigerator withinsufficient power candamage the
compressor. Such damage is not covered under your warranty. If you suspect
your voltage is high or low, consult your power company for testing.
• Toprevent therefrigerator from beingturned offaccidentally,do notplug the
unitinto anoutlet controlledbya wallswitch orpull cord.
• Do not pinch, knot, or bend the power cord in any manner.

follow these important first steps:

Installation
• Donotinstallrefrigeratorwheretemperaturewilldropbelow60°F(15°C),orrise
above110°F(43°C). Compressorwill notbeabletomaintain propertemperatures.
• Ina recessed installation,allowan extra 1/2inch (10-15 mm) oneach side for
easeofinstallation.
• Ifthehinge sideofthe unitwillbeplacedagainstawall,allowa1-3/4inch (44
mm) space between wall and refrigerator to permit proper door swing.
Door Opening
For best use of drawers and freezer basket, refrigerator should be in a position
where both the refrigerator and freezer doors can be opened about 135°.
Leveling
• Refrigeratormustbeleveledwithallbottomcornersrestingfirmlyonasolidfloor.
Adjustfrontrollers tolevelcabinet bothfront-to-rearand side-to-side.Keep
cabinetaslowaspossibleforstability. Neveradjustcabinetrollerssofrontislower
thanrear.
•Toadjust frontrollers: Open refrigeratorand freezerdoors. Removetoe grill
bypullingitstraightout.Adjustrollersbyturningeachrolleradjustingboltwith
anadjustablewrench,asocketwrench,oranutdriveruntil refrigeratorislevel
andstable.Rearrollersarenotadjustable.
• Checkboth doors to besureseals touch cabinet evenlyon all four sides.
• Iffreezerdoorishigherthanrefrigeratordoor,raiserightcornerand/orlowerleft
corneruntildoorsalignacrosstopofcabinet.
• Ifrefrigeratordoorishigherthanfreezerdoor,raiseleftcornerand/orlowerright
corneruntildoorsalignacrosstopofcabinet.
•Toreplacetoegrill: Line uptabs withholes,andpushgrillstraighton.
Cleaning
• Wash the inside, all removable parts, and the outside with mild detergent and
warm water. Wipe dry. DO NOT USE HARSH CLEANERS ON THESE SURFACES.
• Do not use razor blades or other sharp instruments that can scratch appliance
surface, when removing adhesive labels. Any glue left from the tape or energy
label can be removed with a mixture of warm water and mild detergent, or touch
gluewith stickysideof tapealready removed.
• DO NOT REMOVE SERIAL PLATE.

Connecting Ice Maker to Water Supply
Do Not Install Ice Maker Tubing Where Temperature May Fall
Below Freezing.
Check to be sure your water connection will comply with local plumbing codes.
Waterqualitydeterminesyouricequality.Itisbesttoconnecttheicemakertowater
thatis not softened.Chemicals from amalfunctioning softener candamage the ice
maker. If the ice maker is connected to soft water, ensure that the softener is
maintainedand working properly.
Theice makerrequires a 1/4inch (6.4mm) copper watersupply line(with shutoff)
fromyour householdwater system.Allowenough tubingbehind yourrefrigeratorto
permitmovingout toclean floor.
Waterlinekit5308950117isavailablethroughyourDealeratextracharge.Thiskit
includes25ft(7.6meters)of1/4 inchdiametercoppertubing pluspartstoconnect
toyourcoldwaterlineincludinga saddlevalveassembly.You willneedtopurchase
a1/4 inch brass compressionnut and ferrule fromyour local hardwareorplumbing
store.
1. Turn ON water supply and flush out copper tubing. Turn OFF water supply
(Figure1).
2.Unplugrefrigerator(Figure1).
3.Install WATER SUPPLYLINEas follows (Figure2):
Slidebrassnut, thenferrule,ontocopper tubing
Pushendofcoppertubingasfarintothemetalwatervalvefittingasitwill
go(1/4inch).Slideferruleintofittingandthreadbrassnutontoinlet,
tightenfinger tightplusone-halfturn withwrench.
NOTE: Some models may have a cap on the valve. Unscrew the cap and
discard.
4. Secure copper tubing with STEEL CLAMP and screw to rear panel at location
show (Figure 3).
5.Route watersupply intocoil asshown (Figure 3).
NOTE: To prevent vibration noise and wear, leave a space between all
tubingandothersurfaces.
6. Turn on water supply and check all connections and leaks (Figure 3).
7.Plugrefrigeratorcordintowalloutlet(Figure3).
IMPORTANT
Iceproduction willbeginwhen freezerreaches normal operatingtemperature.
Air in new plumbing lines may cause ice maker to cycle two or three times before
makingafulltrayofice.
Newplumbingmay cause ice to bediscoloredor have poor flavor.Discardice made
duringthefirst24hours.Afterinstallation,ifyouwishtoshuttheicemakeroff,lift
shutoffarmuntilitclicksandlocksinUPposition.

Refrigerator midpoint (some models)
• Installtherefrigeratorinthemostcoolpartoftheroom,outofdirectsunlightand
awayfromheating ductsorregisters. Donotplace therefrigeratornexttoheat-
producingappliancessuchasarange,ovenordishwasher.If thisisnotpossible,
asectionof cabinetryoran addedlayerof insulationbetweenthe twoappliances
willhelptherefrigeratoroperatemoreefficiently.
• Leveltherefrigeratorsothedoorsclosetightly.
• Refertothis Owner'sGuideforthesuggestedrefrigeratorsettings.
• Periodiccleaningofthecondenserwillhelptherefrigeratorrunmoreefficiently.

• Do not overcrowd the refrigerator or block cold air vents. Doing so causes the
refrigeratorto run longerand usemore energy. Shelvesshould not belined with
aluminum foil, wax paper or paper toweling. Liners interfere with cold air
circulation,makingtherefrigeratorlessefficient,whichcouldcausefoodspoilage.
• Coverfoodsandwipe containersdrybeforeplacing themintherefrigerator. This
cutsdown on moisture build-upinside the unit.
• Organize the refrigerator to reduce door openings. Remove as many items as
needed at one time and close the door as soon as possible.
Setting the Controls Cool Down Period
Toensuresafe foodstorage,allow therefrigeratorto operatewiththedoorsclosed
forat least 8to12 hours beforeloading with food.
Refrigerator Control
• Therefrigeratorcontrolshouldbesetatthemidpointofthedialforatrialperiod
of24 hours.
• After24hours,adjustthecontrolasneeded.Forcoldertemperatures,turnthedial
a notch toward COLDEST. For warmer temperatures, turn the dial a notch toward
COLD. Adjust temperatures by one increment at a time.
Freezer Control
• Thefreezercontrol shouldbesetatthe midpointofthe dialfora trialperiodof
24hours.
• After24hours,adjustthecontrolasneeded.Forcoldertemperatures,turnthedial
a notch toward COLDEST. For warmer temperatures, turn the dial a notch toward
COLD. Adjust temperatures by one increment at a time.
Note: Whenfirstsettingthecontrols orwhen changingasetting,wait24 hoursfor
thetemperature tostabilize beforemakingadditionalchanges.
Turning the freezer control may change temperatures in both compartments. For
example,ifthefreezer controlisturnedtoacoldersetting,therefrigeratorcontrol
may have to be adjusted to a warmer one. Turning the refrigerator control will
changeonlytherefrigerator temperature.
IMPORTANT: If the freezer control is turned to OFF, cooling stops in both
compartments.
Youmayhearthe"FrostFree"systemworking.Afancirculatesairintherefrigerator
andfreezer compartments. Forgood circulationandmaintenance ofproper cooling
temperatures,do notblock coldair ventswithfood items.Water draininginto the
defrostwater pan andhissing soundsare normal duringthe automatic "FrostFree"
cycle.

Fresh Food Storage Door Storage
Doorbinsandshelvesareprovidedforconvenientstorageofjars,bottlesandcans.
Itemsusedoftenareavailableforquickselection.
Thedoorbinscanbemovedto suitindividualneeds.Remove binsbyliftingstraight
up.Place binsin thedesired positionand lowerover thesupports.
Dairy Compartment:
The Dairy compartment is warmer than the general food storage section and is
intendedfor shortterm storageof cheese,spreads, orbutter. In somemodels, the
dairy compartment module is removable and interchangeable with any other bin on
therefrigeratordoor.Touse theadditionalstorageshelfmoldedintothetopofthe
dairy compartment module, place module down on the next set of shelf
Tall Bottle Retainer (some models):
Theretainer keepstall containers inthe binfrom fallingforwardwhen openingor
closingtherefrigeratordoor. Toinstall,holdtheretaineratthetop,andslideitover
the outside wall of the bin, as shown. Note that the retainer works best with the
use of a bin snugger.
Micro-Serve Dishes (some models)
Food can be stored, cooked*, and served in micro-serve dishes provided in some
models.Thesedishesslide easilyintotheirown tray,whichhangsbelowadoorbin,
convenientlyfreeingshelfspaceforotheritems.
* Remove plastic lid before cooking. Lid is intended for storage only.
Crisper
TheCrisperdrawer,locatedunderthebottomrefrigeratorshelf,isforstoringfruits
and vegetables. Most produce should be washed in clear water and drained before
placingin thisdrawer. Items withstrong odorsor highmoistureshould bewrapped
beforestoring.
The Humidity Control (some models) allows you to adjust the humidity within the
Crisperdrawer.Thiscan extendthelifeoffreshvegetableswhichkeepbestinhigh
humidity. Leafy vegetables, however, keep best when stored with the Humidity
Control set on HIGHER, or in a drawer without a Humidity Control. This keeps
incoming air to a minimum and maintains maximum moisture content.
Meat Keeper
The Meat Keeper is located at the bottom of the refrigerator. The temperature in
thiscompartment can bemade colder thanthe rest ofthe refrigerator compartment
by sliding the Chilled Air Control knob within the COLDEST or COLD range. Meat
willbepartiallyfrozenandmay bekeptfreshlongerthanifstored onarefrigerator
shelf.
Beforeplacing itemsin theMeat Keeper,follow thesesteps tokeep themeat fresh:
1. Carefully handle meat with clean hands and always keep the compartment
clean.
2. Storemeatinitsoriginalwrapper.Ifnecessary,overwrapinplasticwraporfoil
topreventdrying.Wrap fishtightlytopreventodortransfertootherfoods.
3. Ifspoilage everoccurs, disinfectthe compartmentwith liquidchlorine bleach
followinglabeldirections. Thenrinsewith asolutionof bakingsodaandwater.

To install, slide wine rack onto the shelf with the curve facing in. To
remove, slide wine rack out. Install on either side of a Spillsafe™ shelf.
Slider-FlipShelf(some models)
Your Spillsafe™ slider-flipshelfprovidesmorespaceandorganizationoptions. Theslider-
flipshelfisadjustable,likeyourothershelves. Cleanyourslider-flipshelfasyouwould
anyotherinsiderefrigeratorpart(pleaseseetheCareandCleaningSection).
Tosuityourneed,“flip”theflipshelfasshownbelow. Theshelfwillstayinposition.
Theslidershelfportionslidesinandout,likeyourotherrefrigeratorshelves. Remember

Automatic Ice and
Water Dispenser
The ice and water dispenser on the freezer door conveniently dispenses chilled
water, and either ice cubes or crushed ice, depending on the model. Some models
feature a slide knob selector for ice and water dispensing, while other models
feature a touch pad selector for dispensing.
To operate the dispenser, press the pad or slide the knob for the selection of your
choice and press a glass against the dispensing arm. Hold the glass as far up as
possible to catch all ice. To stop dispensing, pull glass away from dispensing arm.
When dispensing ice, release the dispensing arm before the glass isfull, but donot
removetheglassuntiltheicehascompletelydispensed.(Complete instructions for the
dispenseroperationare attachedtotheinside ofthefreezerdoor.)
Asmall heatedarea beneaththe dispenserfloor catchesand evaporatessmall spills.
This drip tray is removable and dishwasher safe. Do not pour water or excess
cubes into this area because there is no drain.
Light
The dispenser has a light which can be turned on and off by sliding the knob to the
desired position or by pressing the "Light ON/OFF" pad. The light also turns on
automatically when ice and/or water is dispensed. Replace light bulb with an
appliance bulb of the same wattage.
How the Water Dispenser Works
The water tank is located behind the drawers in the refrigerator compartment. As
thewaterisdispensed,thetankis automatically refilled. For properoperationofthe
dispenser, the supply water pressure must fall between 30 psi and 120 psi.
After the refrigerator is installed and the plumbing connections are complete, the
water tank should be filled by drawing one glass of water. It may take about 1-
1/2 minutes after depressing the dispenser arm before water works its way through
the plumbing connections and begins to fill this first glass. Draw and discard 7 more
glasses to be sure that the tank and plumbing connections are rinsed of any
impurities.The waterdelivery systemhas a builtin shutoff devicethat will stopthe
water flow after 3 minutes of continuous use. Simply release the actuator button to
reset the dispensing mechanism.
How the Ice Dispenser Works
The ice maker and ice storage bin are located in the top left corner of the freezer
compartment.After therefrigerator is installedproperly andhas cooledfor several
hours, the ice maker can begin making ice. To begin ice production, lower the wire
signal arm to the "down" or ON position. As cubes are made, they are stored in the
storagebin. Withno usage it will take approximately 2 days tofill thebin. However,
the dispenser may be used after the first batch of ice is made. The ice maker turns
offautomaticallywhen theice storage binis full.
Because of new plumbing connections, the first production of ice cubes may be
discolored or have an odd flavor. These should be discarded until the cubes made are
freeofdiscolorationandtaste. Remember that water quality deter-
minesyouricequality. Itisbesttoconnecttheicemakertowaterthatisnotsoftened.
Chemicals from a malfunctioning softener can damage the ice maker. If ice maker
is connected to soft water, ensure the softener is maintained and working properly.

Tostop the ice maker, lift the wiresignal armuntil it clicks, and locks in the
"up" or OFF position.

To help prevent unwanted use, your dispenser is also equipped with a lock out
feature that allows you to disable the entire ice and water system for operating. To
activate,simplypressthepictureof the padlock (seeillustration)untiltheredlight
comes on in the window above it (3-5 seconds). To deactivate the lock out feature,
repeat the above procedure until the red light goes out. Your ice and water
dispensing system is again ready for normal use.

Ice Dispenser Tips
1. Ice cubes stored too long may develop an odd flavor. Empty the container and
returnit to theproper position.The ice makerwill thenproducemore ice.
2. Occasionallyshake thecontainer tokeepice separated.
3. Ifthe dispensingarmis pushedin formorethan 4minutes, thedispensermotor
mayoverload andstop. Theoverload protectorwill resetautomatically after3
or4minutes.Ifalargequantityofice isneededatonetime,itisbesttoremove
cubesdirectlyfrom theicestoragebin.
4. Certain sounds are normal when the ice maker is operating. They are:
• Motor operation
• Ice being loosened from the tray
• Icedropping into the storage bin
• Running water
• Water valve opening or closing

5. Stop the ice maker when cleaning the freezer or for long vacations.
6. Iftheicemakeristobeturnedoffforalongperiodoftime,turnthewatersupply
valvetotheclosedposition.

Cleaning the Ice Dispenser
Cleanthedispenserandicestoragebinatregularintervals,particularlybeforeyou
takeavacationormove,oriftheice dispensersticks.
1. Stopice productionbylifting thewire signal armto the"up" or OFFposition.
2. Removeice storagebinby liftingup andout.Empty andcarefully clean thebin
with milddetergent. Donotsubmerge thebinwhile cleaning.Rinse with clear
water. Do not use harsh or abrasive cleaners. Allow ice bin to dry completely
beforereplacinginthefreezer.
3. Remove ice chips and clean the shelf and chute that supports the ice storage
bin.
4. Replace the ice storage bin. Lower the wire signal arm on the ice maker to the
"down" or ON position and the ice maker will resume production.
IMPORTANT: When removing or replacing the ice bin, do not rotate the auger
intheicebin.Iftheaugerisaccidentallyturned,youmustrealigntheaugerby
turningitin90°turnsuntiltheicebinfitsintoplacewiththedrivemechanism.
Forfurtherinstruction,seethelabelontheicebucket.
Remove and empty the ice storage bin if:
1. An extended power failure (one hour or longer) causes ice cubes in the ice
storage bin to melt and freeze together and jam the dispenser mechanism.
2. Theicedispenserisnotusedfrequently.Icecubeswillfreezetogetherinthebin
and jam the dispenser mechanism. Remove the ice storage bin and shake to
loosenthe cubes.
NEVER use an ice pick or similar sharp instrument to break up the ice. This could
damage the ice storage bin and dispenser mechanism.
PureSource Plus ™ Ice and Water Filter (some models)
NOTE: If you purchased a refrigerator with a PureSource Plus ™ Ice and
Water filter, please read the following use and care information. This ice and
waterfiltersystemfilterswatertoyouricemakerandwaterdispenser. Itislocated
in the upper right back corner of the fresh food compartment (see Figure 1 on the
following
page).
System Startup:
Water supply does not need to be turned off, however do not use ice and water
dispenserwhileinstallingfilter. RefertoFigure1asyoucompletetheseinstructions.
Thefiltercartridgehasalreadybeeninstalledinthefilterhousingatthefactory.Refer
tothe"How The Dispenser Works"section to properly fill thesystem with water.

IMPORTANT
Afterreplacingthefiltercartridge, itwillbenecessarytoreset thefilteruseup
indicatorthatislocatedontheiceandwaterdispenser(seeillustrationonpage7).
Pressthe"ChangeWaterFilter"pad.Iftheindicatorlightwasredoramber,youwill
needtopressthepadfor3-5secondstoreset.Ifthelightwasstillgreenyouwillneed
topressthepadfor10-12secondstoreset.Thelightwillflashonandoffwhenreset
iscomplete.Pleaserefertothecompletedispenseroperatinginstructionsattached
totheinsideofthefreezerdoor.

Changing the Filter:
Waterqualityvaries throughout the world. To ensurethe highest possible water
quality,changewaterfilterevery6months, or200gallons. Also,iffilterhasbeen
ina refrigerator thathas not beenin use forawhile (duringmovingfor example),
changefilterbeforereinstallingrefrigerator. Notedispensersystemwillalsooperate
withoutfiltration(withfiltercartridgeremoved).
Tochangefilter:
RefertoFigure1asneeded. Itisnotnecessarytoturnthewatersupplyofftochange
thefilter.
1.Set icemakerlever (wiresignal arm)to theOFF(up)position.
2.Hold filtercup firmly,and unscrew counterclockwise (Figure1). (Somewater
couldleak outas you removecup. Thisis normal.) Filtercartridge shouldcome
downwithcup. Ifcartridgeremainsinhousing,pulldowngently,whiletwisting
filterbackandforth.
3. Empty cup of any substance.
4.Thelargeo-ring(Figure1)thatsealsthefiltersystemsetsintheo-ringgroove
downinsidethecup.Shouldtheo-ringfalloutduringfiltercartridgereplacement,
simplyplace itback inthe grooveprior toscrewing thecup backin place.If the
o-ring becomes damaged, you will need to order one from the Consumer
AssistanceCenter.
5.Discardoldfiltercartridge.
6.Removenew filtercartridge frompackaging,and install.
7.Place filtercartridge incup.Theendwith thesmall o-ringshould beup, out
ofthecup.
8. Screw cup, with filter, back onto housing. DO NOT USE WRENCH TO REINSTALL
CUP.Filtercartridgewillself-alignascupistightened.Besurecupiscompletely
tightened with PureSource Plus™ logo facing outward. DO NOT TIGHTEN PAST
STOP.
9. Set ice maker lever on the ON (down) position.
10.Checkforleaks.Openrefrigeratordoor.Wipeanywaterdropsfromthefiltercup.
Runaglassofwater.Ifthereisaleak,unscrewfiltercup,andreinsertthefilter
cartridge.CheckplacementoflargeO-ring(seeFigure1).Reinstallfiltercup,
makingcertainitistightenedcompletely.
11.Toconditionfilter systemandpurge airfromwater line,runseveralglassesof
water through waterdispenser.This will alsoassure that thepurest water
possibleis storedin watertank.
