Intended Use
The elmeg DECT handset is a cordless DECT telephone for connection to elmeg PABX systems using the elmeg sys-
tems DECT 300 or DECT 400.
Safety notes
•Mind the storage and operation temperatures for the device listed in the technical specifications.
Only connect the device when the permissible ambient operating temperature has been reached.
Please note that condensation on or in the unit must be prevented when moving from cold to warm surroundings.
Only remove the unit from the package when the permissible ambient operating temperature has been reached.
•You should not make calls or connect or disconnect any lines during thunderstorms.
•Only attach the connecting cords at the connections provided.
•Make sure phone cables are installed in a safe manner to prevent tripping.
•Avoid the following:
Direct sunlight
Sources of heat (for example radiators)
Electronic devices (for example stereo components, office equipment or microwave devices
Ingress of moisture or liquids
Aggressive fluids or vapors
Dusty environment
•Do not use the unit in excessively humid rooms or hazardous locations.
•Only open those sections of the device specified in the assembly / operating instructions.
•Do not touch plug connectors with pointed, metal, or moist objects.
•If you do not permanently mount the device or any accessories, be sure to place it/them on a non-slip surface.
•When required, clean the unit with a slightly moistened cloth.
•Only use approved accessories.
•Only terminals with SELV and/or which comply with ETS 300047 may be connected to the unit. This regulati-
on is fulfilled when approved terminal devices are used as intended.
Mains connection (230VAC)
•Ensure that the electrical installation (grounding outlet) for the unit (and for additional devices where requi-
red) is installed by a qualified electrician to prevent personal and material risks!
•Connect any operational grounding provided for your device before connecting the device to the mains power
supply.
Plug-in power supply
•Use only approved power plug-in units.
•Do not use power plug-in units with visible defects or damage (fissures, cracks, etc.).
Working on an open device (e.g. terminal panel)
•Unplug the connector before removing the cover and working on the cable terminal bay. Replace the cover be-
fore reconnecting the mains connector.
Battery-operated devices
•Use only approved battery packs.
•Use the battery pack only as intended. Never use a damaged or exhausted battery pack.
•Do not allow contact between the charging and battery contacts and conducting objects such as keys, paper-
clips, rings, or bracelets.

•It is possible in some cases that medical devices are affected by powered-up radio devices. Please comply with

Changing the battery
Open the battery cover (2), remove the screw (3) from the handset back(1) and then take off the round cover (4).Use
a screw driver (5) to lift the cover (2) out of the battery compartment. Please refer
to the accompanying figure. Connect the battery plug with the jack in the battery
compartment. Place the battery in the battery compartment with the labeling fa-
cing upward. Replace the cover and tighten the screws.
Charging the battery
Thebatterymustbechargedafterit has been installed. Todothis,firstconnectthe plug-in power unittothecharger.
Place the handset in the charger.
The handset is then charged. The charging status is shown on the 3rd line in the display. The LED flashes while char-
ging is in progress and lights up permanently when charging has been completed.

Initial charging lasts around 3. 5 hours and should not be disrupted. Charging should only take place at room tempe-
ratures between 5 and 25 C°. The battery pack must be charged when »Battery empty« appears in the display,
or when the handset can not be switched on.

You can set the volume for a call using the two keyson the right side of the handset. The volume is increased/decrea-
sed in increments each time you press one of these two keys.
Activating / De-activating the handset
To switch off the handset, press and hold down the OK key for more than 3 seconds. The handset is then completely
switched off (power save mode) and can not be reached by the system. Calls are no longer signaled.
To reactivate, press and hold down the handset key longer than one 1/2 second.
Connection with a base station
If your handset is logged on at an elmeg DECT system, the symbol Fis shown in the display, indicating that the hand-
set is within the range of the elmeg DECT system.
Attention: If the handset is outof the range of the base station,this symbol will go out. When you returnto within the
range of the base station it may take as long as 30 seconds before this symbol re-appears in the display.
Logging on the handsets at an elmeg DECT 300 system
You can enroll (log on) up to 8 handsets at an elmeg DECT300 system. A new (non-programmed) system is put di-
rectly into the programming mode for logging on the first handset as soon as the plug-in power unit is connected.
This first handset automatically becomes the »master handset«and retains the sole privilege of logging on further

Enrolling other handsets
You can enroll (log on) the other new handsets at the systemafter the serial numbers for the units have been entered
in the system using the master handset. The procedure for the handsets is the same as the one used for the master
handset (see page 4).
Logging on the handsets at an elmeg DECT 400 system
The DECT400 system is designed for being connected to elmeg ICT pabx systems. After the DECT module has been
assembled and started, 8 DECT-subscribers are automatically configured. The possible number of DECT-subscri-
bers depends on the pabx system being used and can be programmed using the Professional Configurator.
Loggin on a DECT-subscriber into the system must first have been enabled. Enrolling the handset is enabled using
the Professional Configurator, or with the code ** - PABX PIN - 782* entered on a telephone connected to
the PABX. The LED on the PABX module flickers as long as enrolling is possible. To enroll the handset, proceed as
described on page 4. The handset is stored at the next available position of the DECT module and the corresponding
internal extension number is assigned to it.
If you wish to assign a specific internal extension number to that handset, store the handsets’ serial number at the de-
sired position of the DECT-module (Professional Configurator). Then proceed as described on page 4. The handset
is stored at the selected position and the corresponding internal extension number is assigned to it.
To enroll a handset, an unassigned DECT-subcriber must be available.

Setting the volume
You can adjust the volume of the speaker individually during a call usingthe two separate keys on the right side of the
handset.
The top key increases the volume.
The bottom key decreases the volume.
Thesetvolumeisindicatedbyabardiagram. The bigger the bar, the higher thevolumeforthespeaker.Thevolumeis
reset to the default setting given under the »Profile« menu item on conclusion of the call.
Muting
You can temporarily mute the microphone during a call.

The microphone is re-activated by pressing the OK key again.
Headset
A jack for connecting a headset is located on the left side of the handset 400-40. The built-in microphone and the
speaker are then deactivated automatically.
Enquiry button
The Recall flash button is used for transferring calls within the PABX systemand for initiating the features Conferen-
ce call and Broker’s call. For more details refer to the operating manual of your PABX system.
Muting the call signaling tone
You can temporarily deactivate the call signaling tone by pressing the menukey and then the rhombus key. “Mute” is
then shown in the display.
In this status, incoming calls are signaled only by the LED and (when activated) the vibrator (only for handset
400-40).
You can deactivate muting by pressing the menu key and then the rhombus key again.
If a call is already being signaled, press OK to switch off the ringing tone. The ringing tone is re-activated by pressing
the OK key again.
Key lock
You can lock the keypad by pressing the menu key and then the asterisk key.
The message: »Key locked« then appears in the display.
You can still accept incoming calls using the handset key when the keypad is locked. All other buttons are, however,
locked.

You can also activate the automatic key lock feature during profile programming. The key lock activates automati-
cally 60 second after the last key was pressed.
Deactivate the keypad lock by pressing the menu key and then the asterisk key again.
