1.0 INTRODUCTION
This manual describes the operation and maintenance of the GBA ST1C integrated bill validator
and stacker. It is intended to assist the user in the set-up, installation and operation of the
product.

The GBA ST1C has been specifically designed for use in Amusement and Vending applications;
however it can also be used in all applications previously served by the GBA vertical stacker range,
including Parking and Internet Kiosks. The following features are also offered:

2.2.1 Cassette Fitting / Removal
To fit a note cassette to the GBA ST1C validator, ensure that the cassette lid is level with purple
cassette clip of the GBA ST1C body. Line up the four cassette locating studs with the four location
slots in the channel and push the cassette firmly towards the validator body. The studs will locate
into the joints. To ensure that the cassette latch has successfully re-engaged, press down on the
cassette lid. Remove the cassette by sliding the cassette clip forwards (away from the cassette)
and lifting the cassette away from the GBA ST1C unit.

Currently available cassette option holds 300 notes. The cassette has the option to be locked for
security using two cam locks. To access the bills squeeze two tabs as shown below.

2.2.4 Note Guide & Faceplate Options
Note guides are available in two sizes:
1. USD – suitable for note widths up to 67mm
2. CAN – suitable for note widths up to 70mm
There is a different faceplate for each of the note guide widths, and both styles of faceplate are
available in either up or down stacking configuration.

To limit the impact of machine abuse is anticipated, the GBA ST1C unit is secured to the faceplate
using four screws. The validator can be mounted either with the faceplate showing at the front of
the host machine or with the majority of the faceplate concealed, and just the illuminated note
guide visible.

2.2.5 Interface Cable Assembly
The GBA ST1C is fitted with a 20 pin interface connector. All interfaces, with the exception of
NAMA MDB, utilise this connector for communication to a host machine. For further details
relating to interface and connection information, please refer to section 5.0 ELECTRICAL
INTERFACE SPECIFICATI N
2.2.6 Bar-coded Coupon Sensor
The ST1C can be fitted with a sensor for detecting and reading the barcodes on a printed coupon.
The sensor uses green light, so it can readily read thermally printed coupons. The sensor can only
scan one face of the coupon, so the coupons must be inserted with the barcode facing upwards
for the up-stacker arrangement, and facing downwards for the down-stacker.
The bar-coded coupons should be a similar size to the wider notes that the validator handles.
At present, only the ccTalk and GBA BSCP protocols provide the host with commands to read back
the content of the barcode as a text string.
Further details on the barcode reading function, including bar code printing sizes and the codes
read, are available from your regional Sales ffice.

3.0 INTERFACE PROTOCOLS
The GBA ST1C can communicate with a host (machine) via one of several base interface protocols.
These protocols are;
•NAMA MDB
•Pulse
•Parallel
•ccTalk
®
•Bi-directional serial protocol (“RS232”)
•SSP
•JVI/VCCS
Variants to some of these protocols are also available; please contact your regional office for
further details.
With the exception of MDB the GBA ST1C will be connected to the host machine using a cable
assembly terminated with a 20-way connector, as denoted in section 6.0 ELECTRICAL
C NNECTI NS.
For NAMA MDB, the interface cable terminates with a 6-way connector.
3.1 NAMA MDB
If the GBA ST1C is used in an MDB interface application, then it must be fitted with an optional 20
to 42 Volt power regulator and with opto-isolators on the communication lines, as required by the
NAMA MDB specification. This option must be specified when ordering the ST1C. An adaptor cable
is required to connect to a standard NAMA 6 pin connector.

3.2 CCTALK
®
If the GBA ST1C is used in a ccTalk® interface application, an alternative 20 pin harness is available
if the host controller uses a single data line for communications both to and from the validator.

3.3 USB
The GBA ST1C can be offered with an optional USB interface. The USB mini-AB socket is fitted to
the side of the unit, next to the 20-way connector power plug.
The USB interface can be used to connect directly to a USB PC host, where it then acts as a USB /
serial comms port, and can be used to transmit the BSPC RS232, SSP and ccTalk protocols. The
GBA USB Driver will need to be installed; please contact your regional office for a copy, and specify
which version of Windows you are using.

4.0 SOFTWARE CONFIGURATION

The GBA ST1C can be configured using either the on-board push button or via a Windows based PC
package (GBA Talk) or connecting a USB memory device to the USB port.
4.1 On-board Push Button
The on-board push button is located on the side of the main chassis – see figure 4.0.
This push button will allow access to on-board programming modes including note enable (1
press), note disable (2 presses) and Primary Calibration / Configuration (3 presses). A single long
press of more than 2 seconds will cancel the programming mode. In the note enable and disable
modes a sample note must then be inserted and scanned. If the operation is successful the
validator will return to normal operation mode. If it is unsuccessful, it will remain in the program
mode and the illuminated note guide will continue to flash until the push button is held for more
than 2 seconds.
If the push button is held for more than 5 seconds an error is reported (Status ED solid red).
4.1.1 Configuration Procedure – Enable Note
Procedure:
1. Push button x 1, the Status LED will flash green rapidly.
2. Insert a sample note of the specific denomination required to be enabled.
3. The GBA ST1C will scan the note in and then return it.
4. Enable complete. The Status LED will return to solid green.
