GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Monogram
refrigerator is a
side-by-side configuration with
25.7 cubic feet of storage space
for non-dispenser models and 25.4
cubic feet for dispenser models.
It is a truly built-in product
that is designed to accept custom
panels.
The models listed in this manual
come in six (6) configurations. A
non-dispenser with and without an
evaporator fan relay. A dispenser
model with electronics that comes
with a choice of a white or black
dispenser recess front. A
dispenser model with electronics
that comes with a choice of a
white or black dispenser recess
front and with or without an
evaporator fan relay. When
connected it makes the fan run 100
% except during a defrost cycle,
even if the cold control opens .
The
fan relay allows the models to
meet certain energy requirements.
Currently, the product is shipped
from the factory in two separate
cartons. One carton contains the
cabinet and the other contains the
refrigeration unit. This
facilitates delivery through
doorways and elevators to the
consumer's kitchens. Plans are now
being made to ship the unit as one
complete unit. This would save
considerable time in assembly of
the refrigeration unit to the
cabinet.
Because
the
product is shipped in
two
pieces,
the cabinet and the
refrigeration unit
have separate
model and serial numbers.
The
cabinet and
refrigeration
units
have separate Mini-Manuals.
The
refrigeration's
mini-manual is
located behind the
top grille,
at
the left
side taped to the cooling
unit's housing.
The cabinet's is located behind
the grille and taped
to the top
of the cabinet next
to the guide
rail.

INSTALLATION -
After the product is delivered to
the consumer's kitchen, the hood
for the refrigeration unit is
assembled to the top of the
cabinet. Bolts and washers are
used to secure the sides of the
hood to the top of the cabinet and
sheet metal screws are driven in
along the rear. The cabinet is
then rolled into position, leveled
and permanently built-in, along
with the kitchen cabinets.
Panels, selected by the consumer,
are installed on the doors and
sides, as desired.
A 115 volt electrical receptacle
is provided behind the left side
of the hood. A copper water
supply line is connected to the
inlet of the water valve at the
right side of the hood. The
plastic water tubing, routed from
the outlet of the water valve
across the top rear corner of the
hood, is connected to the fill
tube grommet located in the left
rear corner of the cabinet top.
You must hook-up the water line
and fill tube before the
refrigeration unit is put into
place.

The cabinet top trim is removed
before the refrigeration unit is
put into place.
It is also easier to remove the
hinge covers if the top ~rim has
been removed. The top trim is held
in place with two phillips head
screws one in each end of the trim
and comes from the factory already
installed on the cabinet
Refrigeration Unit -
After the top trim is removed the
refrigeration unit is positioned
into the hood and secured with
five (5) hex-head bolts which seat
the air duct gasket on the top of
the cabinet.
It is very important that all 5
bolts be secured tightly. The
rear bolts are hard to reach
easily, so patience will be
required when installing them. It
is best to use a mirror and a
light to see if the holes are
aligned properly before tightening
the bolts. Do not tighten the
bolts all the way until all 5
bolts are started.
It is very important that all
bolts be tightened correctly. The
center rear bolt if not tightened
correctly will allow air to escape
from the freezer compartment and
cause a warm temperature
condition, a high run time and
possibly a sweat problem inside
the refrigeration compartment .

After the refrigeration unit has
been installed and bolted
securely, the electric wiring
harnesses must be connected.
A wiring harness is connected to
the water valve at the right side.
There is a connector on the water
valve and a connector corning from
the refrigeration unit, these must
be connected together.
The left upper hinge cover must be
removed to get to the cabinet
wiring harness and the defrost
sensor wiring harness, on models
with a dispenser.
The cabinet and sensor connectors
are extended from the left side of
the refrigeration unit. The
refrigeration unit's wiring
harness connector and the defrost
sensor's wiring harness connector
are connected to their respec-
tive harnesses corning from the
cabinet.

into the electrical receptacle,
turn the freezer cold control to
the off position.
Now connect the power cord to the
electrical receptacle at the left
rear corner of the unit.
Next turn the freezer cold control
to position 5 and note if the unit
starts and runs correctly.
The cabinet's top left hinge cover
is reinstalled and then the top
trim is reinstalled. Next the
front grille is installed.
The grille is attached to the
refrigeration unit's cover with
two phillips head screws. The
screws fit into the grille at the
upper edge and are screwed into
brackets attached to the cover's
flange.

GENERAL OPERATING INFORMATION
Temperature Control Settings
Separate temperature controls for
the freezer and fresh food
compartments are located up-front,
in the respective compartments.
Both controls have numbers 1
through 9 and initially should be
set at position 5. The freezer
temperature control regulates the
compressor run time and has an
"off" position. The freezer
control is an electric sensor
control and the capillary senses a
change in the air temperature and
controls the compressor run time.
The fresh food control is an
automatic air damper control that
regulates the amount of cold air
supplied to the fresh food
compartment. It has positions 1
through 9 and initially should be
set at position 5. The air damper
is controlled by a sensing
capillary that senses the
temperature of the air in the
fresh food and adjusts the air
damper accordingly.
Power saver switch -
There is a power saver switch
located in the fresh food control
console. It is in the right front
corner and has two positions.
Complete Water and Ice System
From the Pictorial, and in order:
1. The water valve location and
tube routing.
2. The water supply tank
3. Ice maker
4. Ice cube mold
5. Auger and dispenser bucket
6. Water tubing routed through
hinge and inside door panel to
recess.
7. Water dispensing location
Note the grille over the water
tank. This grille directs the
fresh food air over the water
tank. If the tank is too cold,
part of the grille louvers can be
blocked with tape on the right
side.

OPERATION
OF UNIT
The refrigeration unit contains
the complete sealed refrigeration
system, the evaporator fan, the
condenser fan and the defrost
system.
Air flow System
The condenser fan draws in room
air through the grille in the
front. Warm ai r, from the
condenser and compressor, is
expelled through the right side
and the front of the grille.
The evaporator fan supplies cold
air down to the freezer and fresh
food compartments through ducts
located in the respective
compartments.
Cold air is distributed into the
freezer compartment through
louvers in the front of the
freezer compartment above the
freezer control. The temperature
control capillary is located in
the freezer supply air path.
Accordingly, the compressor run
time is regulated by the freezer
supply air temperature. Warm air
is returned to the evaporator
through a duct at the bottom rear
and partition in the back of the
freezer compartment.
In the fresh food compartment
freezer air is also directed over
to the fresh food compartment via
a channel in the front. Cold air
passes through the thermostatically
controlled air damper and is
directed back to the rear of the
compartment and out through this
same channel and down into the com-
partment. Warm air is returned
to the evaporator through a passage
between the fresh food and freezer
liner wall. The air is directed to
evaporator via 6 fresh food air
returns located in the lower left
liner wall. As the air is being
returned to the evaporator it
passes over the fresh food control
capillary end which is placed in
the air path via a hole and
grommet through the liner wall.The
damper senses temperature changes
and supplies cold air on demand.

Defrost Drain System
1. Drain Tube and Auxilary con-
denser
Defrost water from the drain
trough, under the evaporator,
flows through a tube that extends
to the defrost water pan at the
right side of the refrigeration
unit. In addition to warm air from
the condenser fan flowing across
the pan, the auxiliary condenser,
positioned under the bottom of the
pan, helps evaporate the accum-
ulated defrost water.
For access to the defrost heater
and the drain trough heater, the
evaporator must be completely
removed. There is a piece of
styrofoam between the evaporator
coils and the housing on the right
side. This piece of styrofoam may
fall down when removing the
evaporator and must be replaced
when reinstalling.
2. Defrost Heater
The defrost heater is positioned
into the right side and rear of
the evaporator and held securely
by brackets at each end.
3. Drain Trough Heater
The drain trough heater is
positioned on the bottom of the
drain trough. The heater is
imbedded in an aluminum sheet, and
the sheet adheres to the bottom of
the trough. The heater can be
removed by peeling the aluminum
sheet off the drain trough.
4. Defrost Thermostat and Fan
Delay Thermostat
The defrost thermostat and the fan
delay thermostat are mounted, one
above the other, to the front of
the evaporator. The defrost fan
delay is connected in series with
the evaporator fan motor. The
thermostat closes at 25 degrees
and opens at 45 degrees. The
thermostat delays the fan for
about 10 minutes after a defrost
to allow the evaporator to pull
down sufficiently. These thermo-
stats must be removed from the
evaporator when removing the evap-
orator from the housing.

Electrical System
There are 4 different wiring
configurations on the 6 models. The
schematics shown represent the 4
configurations.
A short explanation will be
needed to clarify the diagrams.
1. On models presently sold in
California there is an
evaporator fan relay which
controls the run time of the
evap fan. The fan runs 100%
except when the unit is in
defrost. This relay is found
on both dispenser and
non-dispenser models. Models
affected are:

There is a new model which will
eliminate the relay and will be
sold universally - The Defrost
control timer has been changed
from a 10 hr - 35 min timer to
a 12 hr - 35 min timer. The
model affected will be:

2. On all other models there will
not be an evaporator fan relay,
and the only difference will be
whether the unit has a
dispenser. The models affected

3. The ladder diagrams are
basically the same for all
models except for differences
noted above. Wiring schematics
are included in the mini-
manuals.

Dispenser
The dispenser models are also
equipped with electronics. The
electronics found on the Monogram
models are the same as found on a
standard side by side.
The electronics portion of the
system is included in the
mini-manual for that model. You
can also reference Part #
162D2928P001 for electronic
control console removal, status
check list, and control board
connections.
Removal of Dispenser Recess
To remove the dispenser recess
from the freezer door, you must
first remove the freezer door
handle which also serves as trim
and panel rail. The handle is
held in place with 8 phillips head
screws.
After removing the handle, the
recess front cover panel must be
pried loose from the outer door.
It is held in place with double
back sealing tape. Pull the cover
forward and using a putty knife
work down the insi8e of the cover,
pushing back the double back tape
as you go. The cover will also be
held by guide post but these will
slip out of the holes easily.
After the cover has been freed
from the tape it is still being
held in place by the lower panel's
upper support rail.
Slide the upper decorative panel
out of the rails, and set aside .
