Location of yourrefrigeratoris
important. Avoid locating it next
to your range,a heating ventor

Don’t open thedoormore often

Close the door as soon as possible,
particularly in hot, humid weather.
Defrostthe ice storage
compartmentwhenever frost
becomes 1/4-inchthick.

This refrigerator mustbe
properly installed
in accordance
with the Installation Instructions
before it
is used. Seegrounding

This refrigerator should not be
recessed
or built in-it isdesigned
for free-standinginstallation only.
If model SC2 or TA2 is placed
on a countertop
or stand, the front
surfaceof the door should
be 3" or
more back from the edge ofthe
countertopor stand to avoid
accidental tippingof the appliance
in normal usage.
Never unplug your refrigerator
by pulling on thepower cord.
Always grip plug firmly and pull
straightout from theoutlet.
Repair or replace immediately
all electric service cords thathave
become
frayed or otherwise .
damaged. Do not usea cord that
showscracksor
abrasion damage
along
its length or at either theplug
orconnectorend.
After your refrigerator is in
operation, do not touch the cold
surfaces, particularlywhen
hands
are damp or wet. Skin may adhere
to these extremelycold surfaces.
Don't refreeze frozen foods
which have thawed completely.

and shouldnot be eaten. Thawed
ice cream should bediscarded.
If
the odor or colorof any food is
poor or questionable,get ridof it.

vegetables, andprepared foods.

than that of many
otherfoods. Use refrozen

Do not use any electrical
deviceor any sharpinstrument
in defrosting your refrigerator.
If yourold refrigeratoris still
around thehouse but not in use,
be sure toremove thedoors. This
will reduce the possibility of
danger to children.

How to connect
electricity
For personal safety,
thisappliance must be
properly grounded.
The power cordof this appliance

Use of adapter plug
Becauseof potential safety
hazardsunder certain conditions,
we strongly recommend against
use of
an adapterplug. However,if
you stillelect
to use an adapter,

TEMPORARY CONNECTION may
be madeto a properly grounded
two-prongwall outlet
by use of a
UL listedadapter (Fig. 2) available
at most localhardwarestores.

CAUTION: Attachingadapter

surethe outlet isproperly
grounded.
When disconnecting the power
cord from the adapter,
always
hold the adapterwith onehand.
If
this isnot done, the adapterground
terminalisvery likely to break with
repeated use.
Should the adapter ground
terminal break, DO NCrr USE the
appliance until a proper ground
has again been established.
Use of extension cords
Because of potential safetyhazards
under certainconditions,
we
strongly recommend against the
use of an extension cord. However,
if youstillelectto use an extension
cord, it isabsolutely necessarythat
it
be a UL listed 3-wiregrounding
type applianceextension cord
having a groundingtype plug and
outletand that theelectricalrating
of the cord be 15 amperes (minimum)
and
120 volts.
The refrigerator should
always be plugged into its own
individual electrical outlet-
(115 volt, 60 Hertz, singlephase
AC). This isrecommended for best
performanceand to prevent
overloading house wiringcircuits,
which couldcausea possible fire
hazard from overheating wires.

free-standing installation
only. It
should not
be recessed or built-in.
Install the refrigerator on a base
strong enough to support
a fully
loaded refrigerator.
If the base is
not level, adjustthe feetof the
refrigerator.
If the refrigeratorisin a
40°F. or
colderroom, it willoperatebut
it will notcool
foods properly.

Operating Your
Refrigerator
Temperature
Control Dial
The temperaturecontrol dial has
settings from
‘“IN” to “MAX”
plus ‘‘OFTI’

“MIN” is the warmest.
“MAX” isthe coldest.
Initially set the temperature
control dialatthe midpoint.
After using the refrigerator for
24 hours, adjustthetemperature
controlto the settingthat is best
suited to your needs.
Note:
If this refrigeratorisunplugged
or turned off, you must allow 3
minutes before restarting it or
plugging it backin. If youattempt
to restartit inless than 3 minutes, it
will not start.
Note:
Turningtemperaturecontrol dial to
“OFF” stopscooling but doesnot
shut off power tothe refrigerator.

Food Storage Suggestions Ice Service
Multi-Position Shelves
(Models SC4 and TA4)
Two of the shelvescan be moved to
different levels tosuityour varying
food storage needs.
Deep Door Shelves
(Models TA2 and TA4)
Shelves onthe door provide
convenient storage for frequently-
used items. Allof the shelvesare
deepenough to holda six-pack.
In addition, the doorhas an
extra-tall-bottlezone.
Model TA2
Ice Tray Compartment
This compartmentisdesigned
for productionof icecubes and
short-termstorage (afew daysat
the most) of some commercially-
frozen foods.
The icetray compartmentshould
not be used to freeze foods.
When storing foods in your
compact refrigerator, follow
these suggestions for best results:
Meats, Fish &. Poultry
Always remove storewrappings.
Rewrap infoil, film or wax paper
and refrigerateimmediately.
Cheese
Cheeseshould be wrapped well
with wax paper or aluminum foil,
or put ina plastic bag.
Carefully wrap to expelair and
help preventmold.
Store pre-packagedcheese in its
own wrapping
if you wish.
Vegetables
Crispnesscan be maintainedby
covering vegetables witha moist
towel.
As a furtheraid tofreshness,
pre-packaged vegetables can be
stored
in their originalwrapping.
Leftovers
Open dishes of food, especially
leftovers, should be covered.
Leftovers shouldbe used within
2 days.
Ice Trays
For most efficient ice service,
place trays side by sideon the ice
tray compartmentfloor.
To release ice cubes, hold the tray
upside down over anice bucket or
bowl, andtwist tray at bothends.
If the ice tray freezes to the floor,
pour a littlelukewarm wateraround
it to loosenit.
Do not use boiling
water which can damageplastic
parts, or sharpmetal objectssuch
as a knife or screwdriver whichcan
damage the cooling system tubing.
Wash trays
in lukewarm water only.
Do not put them in an automatic
dishwasher.

Defrosting
Defrost whenever frost on the
wall ofthe icetray compartment
becomes
1/4” thick.
Never use a sharp
or metallic
instrument to remove frostasit
may damage the cooling coils.
(A
punctured cooling coil will cause
serious problems and void the
warranty.:)
We recommend using
a plastic scraper.
Do not use any electrical device
in defrosting your refrigerator.
To defrost, remove foods and ice
trays from the ice tray compan-
mcnt, put drip tray
in place, and set
temperature control dialat
“OFF”
position.
Defrosting, usually takesa few
hours.
To defrost faster, keep the
door open. Also, pouringwarm
(not hot) water on the frosted part
may speed defrosting.
Do not use
boiling water-it
may damage
plastic parts.
After defrosting, empty water
fromthe drip tray. Wash thedrip
tray in warm water. Wipe the ice
tray compartment with adamp
cloth. Then
turn the tempcrature
control to the desired setting and
return food and ice traysto the
refrigerator.
Note: If ice buildup is very thick,
it may keep the ice tray compartment
door from openingor closing
completely. Don’t try to force it
open; after defrosting, thedoor
will open andclose easily.
Care and Cleaning
Cleaning-Inside
Unplug the refrigerator and remove
food, shelf and trays. Wash inside
with warm water and bakingsoda
solution-about two tablespoons
of baking soda toa quart of water.
Then rinseand dry.
Don’t use cleansers suchas soaps,
detergents, scouring powderor
spray cleaners-they may cause
odors inside the refrigerator.
Wash ice cubetrays, driptray and
shelf
in mild detergent solution and
dry with a soft cloth.
To help preventodors, leave an
open box ofbaking sodain the rear
of the refrigerator, on theshelf.
Change the box every threemonths.
Wipe outsideof refrigerator with
a soft cloth dampened with soapy
water or Appliance PolishWax
Cleaner (Cat.
No. WR97X0216),
available from
GE Appliance Parts
Marts.
Use only mild, soapy water to
clean thedoor gasket.
Never use acids, chemical thinner,
gasoline, benzineorthe like for
cleaning any part of the refrigerator.
Boiling wateror benzine may
deform or damage plastic parts.
Do not wash anyplastic parts
from your refrigerator in
your automatic dishwasher.
When going on vacation.. .
For extended vacations or
absences, unplug the refrigerator
and clean the interior.To prevent
odors, leave an open box ofbaking
soda inside and leave thedoor open.
For shorter vacations, remove
perishable foods and leave the
control at regular setting. However,
if room temperature is expected to
dropbelow
40 OF. follow the same
instructions as for extended
vacations.

When you move.. .
Disconnect the power cord from
wall outlet, remove food and defrost
refrigerator. Then clean and dry the
interior.
Secure all loose items such as ice
trays anddrip tray by taping them
securely
in place to preventdamage.
Be sure refrigerator stays in upright
position only during actual moving
and
in van. Refrigerator must be
secured
in van to prevent movement.
Protect outsideof refrigerator
with
blanket.
