INTRODUCTION
Thank y u f r purchasing Master-Bilt Ice Merchandiser IM-23-HGP. This manual c ntains imp rtant instructi ns f r
installing, using, cleaning, and servicing ind r Ice Merchandiser. A parts list is included with this manual. Read all
d cuments carefully bef re installing r servicing y ur equipment.
STORE CONDITIONS
The Ice Merchandisers are designed t perate in a c ntr lled envir nment. The temperature sh uld be at 75°F r
bel w f r an ind r ice merchandiser, with relative humidity f 55% r less. At higher temperature r humidity
c nditi ns, the perf rmance f these merchandisers may be affected and the capacity diminished.
The Ice Merchandiser sh uld n t be p siti ned where it is directly exp sed t rays f the sun r near a direct s urce f
radiant heat r airfl w. This will adversely affect the ice merchandiser and will result in p r perf rmance.
If this ice merchandiser is t be l cated against a wall, there sh uld be at least 6” space between the wall and the back
f the unit. This space will all w f r the circulati n f air behind the ice merchandiser, which will prevent c ndensati n
n the exteri r surfaces.

Read this manual before installing, cleaning, or performing any maintenance on your cabinet. Keep the
manual and refer to it before doing any service on the equipment. Failure to do so could result in personal
injury or damage to the cabinet.

Improper or faulty hook-up of electrical components on the refrigeration units can result in
severe injury or death. All electrical wiring hook-ups must be done in accordance with all applicable local,
regional or national standards.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
1. Be sure the ice merchandiser is pr perly installed by c mpetent service pe ple.
2. Keep the ice merchandiser clean and sanitary s it will meet y ur l cal sanitati n c des. Clean the unit with a mild
detergent and water, then rinse.
3. R tate y ur st ck s that lder st ck d es n t accumulate.
4. D n t place pr duct in the ice merchandiser when it is s ft r partially thawed. Als , pr duct sh uld n t be put in
the ice merchandiser f r at least 6 h urs after it is started.
5. St ck ice merchandiser as quickly as p ssible, exp sing nly small quantities t c nditi n temperatures f r sh rt
peri ds f time.
NOTICE TO STORE OWNERS / MANAGERS
Moisture or liquid around or under the cabinet is a potential slip/fall hazard for persons walking by or working
in the general area of the cabinet. Any cabinet malfunction or housekeeping problem that creates a slip/fall
hazard around or under the cabinet should be corrected immediately.
If m isture r liquid is bserved ar und r under a Master-Bilt Ice Merchandiser, an immediate investigati n sh uld be
made by qualified pers nnel t determine the s urce f the m isture r liquid. The investigati n sh uld determine if the
ice merchandiser is malfuncti ning r if there is a drainpipe leaking.

MECHANICAL
Rem ve fr nt grille and check refrigerati n lines t see that they are free (n t t uching each ther r c mpress r).
Spin c ndenser fan blade t see that it is free.
The c mpress r is hermetic s it is internally spring m unted and ready t run.
ELECTRICAL
WARNING
Before servicing electrical components in the case or the doors or door frames make sure all power to case is
off. Always use a qualified technician.
Check v ltage and amps drawn n (Page 12-13) t determine pr per line and fuse r circuit breaker size. Check p wer
supply f r l w v ltage. If v ltage reads “115” with n l ad, and it dr ps bel w “100” when the c mpress r tries t start,
it is an indicati n f t small supply wiring r t l ng t run.
It is rec mmended that a separate circuit be run f r each ice merchandiser t prevent an ther appliance fr m bl wing
the fuse r breaker, causing l ss f pr duct.

MASTER-BILT ELECTRONIC REFRIGERATION CONTROL
Display Lay- ut
OPERATION
Compressor When p wer is first turned n the c ntr ller will g thr ugh the start-up. After the start-up delay the
c mpress r c mes n. The LED indicat r stays n while c mpress r relay is energized. Display will sh w actual b x
temperature. Picture ab ve is the display lay ut. The c mpress r will be cycled ff when the actual b x temperature
reaches its set p int. The COMP indicat r will be ff.
Fan The fans will run c nstantly except when a defr st is initiated, r when the evap rat r temp is ab ve the 30
F.
When in defr st m de the fan is ff until the end f the defr st and the 2 minute drip time has passed. There is 2
minutes delay after a defr st bef re the fan c mes n. If the Evap rat r temperature is 35
F r bel w the c ntr ller
will verride the fan delay. FAN LED indicat r is n while FAN relay is energized.
Defrost The c ntr l uses time defr st with 4 defr st per day. The defr st scheme can be re-set the f r special
applicati ns. During defr st the display will sh w dEF and the defr st LED indicat r n. The c ntr l begins timing the
defr st when p wer is turned n. F ur defr st per day means it will ccur every 6 h urs. T have defr st ccur at
8am, 2pm, 8pm, and 2am then p wer up at ne f these f ur times.
MANUAL DEFROST
Defr sting my als be induced manually by keeping the defr st butt n f r 3 sec nds. Once defr st has started, the
defr st will g thr ugh a defr st and drip time pull d wn cycle.

ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
The c ntr ller is pr vided with a screw terminal bl ck t c nnect cables with a cr ss secti n up t 2,5 mm

c nnecting cables make sure the p wer supply c mplies with the c ntr l’s requirements. Separate the pr be cables
fr m the p wer supply cables, the utputs and the p wer c nnecti ns. D n t exceed the maximum current all wed n
each relay, in case f heavier l ads use a suitable external relay r c ntact r’s.
PROBE CONNECTIONS
The pr bes shall be m unted with the bulb upwards t prevent damage due t casual liquid infiltrati n. It is
rec mmended t place the therm stat pr be at the warmest l acati n f return air streams t c rrectly measure the
average r m temperature. Place the defr st terminati n pr be am ng the evap rat r fins in the c ldest place, where
m st ice is f rmed, far fr m heaters r fr m the warmest place during defr st, t prevent premature defr st
terminati n.
