Overview
What to expect
It is normal for cool air to blow out the vents on the
rear shroud of the water heater.
The air is moved through the water heater by a fan
located at the back of the water heater near the top.
Adjusting water temperature
The water heater is preset to 120°F; the standard
setting for a new water heater.
This temperature is easily adjusted by touching
either the UP or DOWN arrow, then touching ENTER.
You may also refer to the use and care manual
included with the product for detailed instructions.
Cleaning the air lter
The water heater has an air lter that is removable
and occasionally needs to be cleaned.
When the lter requires cleaning, the red light above
the lter button will be illuminated and an audible
beep will sound.
To remove the lter, squeeze 2 tabs and lift the lter
from the top of the unit. The lter can be wiped
clean with a damp rag or rinsed with warm water.
The cost of operating a traditional water heater has been reduced because this water heater uses heat
pump technology. The heat pump removes heat from the surrounding air, heats the water, and moves the
cooler air back into the room.

Modes of Operation
Heat Pump Mode – most energy-efcient mode, uses only the sealed system. The time required to heat
water is longer, but should be adequate for normal demand households. It will take 3 to 4 hours to initially
heat a tank to 120°F at room temperature (4 to 6 hours in a colder room). It will take approximately 1 hour to
reheat from a 10-gallon ow.
Hybrid Mode – combines the energy efciency of heat pump mode with the recovery speed and power of
the electric elements. The control automatically uses the efcient heat pump mode, unless the majority of
hot water is consumed.
High Demand Mode – use this mode if your household has higher than average water usage. The control will
automatically use the efcient heat pump mode if water usage is normal, but when demand is higher, the
electric mode will be used.
Electric Mode – uses the upper and lower heating elements to heat the water. Heats water the fastest, but is
the least energy-efcient mode.
Vacation – Use this mode when hot water is not needed for an extended period of time. The control will drop
the temperature down to 50°F (10°C) and automatically return to the previous operating mode, heating the
water to the original temperature setting on the day before the total input of days selected.
Three Heat Sources
The water heater has 3 heat sources:
1. Upper Element
2. Lower Element
3. Condenser
Note: Only 1 heating source can be on at a
time. The upper heating element has priority.
If a large temperature increase is required,
the upper element is used (except in heat
pump mode).
