Introduction
Thank you for purchasing the American Hometec
®
Electric Tankless Water Heater.
In order to ensure proper installation, safe operation, and long life, please carefully
read the instructions. Installation should only be completed by licensed
professionals. The use of electrical and plumbing professionals ensures the
installation is in full compliance with all required building, plumbing and electrical
codes.
KEEP THIS MANUAL for future reference. This booklet includes useful information
about the product, maintenance requirements and the details of your product
warranty.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
When using this electrical equipment, basic precautions should always be
followed, including the following:
(a) READ AND FOLLOW ALL INSTRUCTIONS.
(b) CANADA: A green terminal (or a wire connector
marked "G", "GR", "GROUND", or "GROUNDING") is
provided with the control box. To reduce the risk of
electric shock, connect this terminal or connector to
the grounding terminal of the electric service or supply
panel with a continuous copper wire in accordance
with the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I.
(c) This product shall be protected by a Class A
ground fault circuit interrupter.
(d) SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS
FAILURE TO FOLLOW INSTALLATION, OPERATING OR

Mounting
1. Choose location
1) Orientation : Only install unit vertically with inlet and outlet connections
on the bottom. DO NOT install horizontally or upside down.
2) Install indoors. Product not designed for outdoor installation.
3) Caution: DO NOT INSTALL IN A BATH ENCLOSURE OR SHOWER STALL.
For Canada Only (required standard language that does not apply to this
Coilless Technology® tankless water heater): DO NOT CONNECT TO A SALT-
REGENERATED WATER SOFTENER OR A WATERSUPPLY OF SALT WATER
4) Do not install the water heater in cold location, below the freezing point of
water (32oF / 0oC).
5) Clearance required: 2” above, 5” below, 1” to each side.
2. Prepair for Mounting the Unit
1) Use the mounting template and a pencil to mark the location of the
holes. The template will ensure clearance requirements are maintained.
2) Attach the wall mounting bracket (B) to wall using the screws provided.
3) Lift the water heater and slide the tab of the mounting bracket on the back
of the water heater (A) over and into the opening on the wall mounting
bracket (B) as shown in Figure 3. Do not Mount the unit at this time simply
check for clearances and measurements of electrical cables and piping.
4) The actual Mounting of the unit will take place during the Connect
Electrical section to follow.
5) Note: Only licensed professionals should open the cover panel of unit.

1. Determine the power capacity setting for the application (2.4 kW or 3.4
kW).

2. The unit requires a power cord be installed. The power cord selected will
be rated to handle up to 300 Volts and be of the wire size specified in the
chart above. To install the power cord, please follow these steps:
a) Open the front panel of the unit by removing six small screws from the
back of the cover and then lift the front cover out.
b) Unscrew and remove the cable clamp.
c) Feed the 10 or 12 AWG electrical cable (not provided) into unit through

cable aperture on the side of unit. Connect the wires to the terminal
block.
d) Reinstall the cable clamp to secure the wire.
e) Reinstall the front cover.
3. Position the unit on the wall as in the Mounting section above. Now fasten
the unit to the mounting bracket with the supplied screws. Note: Do not
connect the water at this time this will happen in the Connect Water section
of this manual, connecting water at this point would cause electric damage
to the unit and potentially your property.

4. The units can be connected to a plug and plugged into the corresponding
receptacle (refer to Figure 5) or it can be hardwired in a junction box to a
correctly sized breaker and AWG wire size. Check with your local electric
codes if the hardwire option is to be selected. The NEMA and HBL prefixed
number under each plug configuration refers to the NEMA and Hubbell
Incorporated model of this plug. The L, N, G refers to Load, Neutral and
Ground respectively.
a. CAUTION: CONNECT ONLY TO A CIRCUIT PROTECTED BY A
CLASS A GROUND FAULT CIRCUIT INTERRUPTER.
b. USE COPPER CONDUCTORS ONLY.
c. CANADA: USE BONDING CONDUCTOR IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE
CANADIAN ELECTRICAL CODE, PART I. A green terminal (or a wire
connector marked "G", "GR", "GROUND", or "GROUNDING") is
provided with the control box. To reduce the risk of electric shock,
connect this terminal or connector to the grounding terminal of the
electric service or supply panel with a continuous copper wire in
accordance with the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I.
Holding the ON/OFF button down for 5 seconds to
switch between 3.4KW and 2.4KW. 3 LED lights
flashing indicate 2.4kw. 4 LED lights flashing
indicate 3.4kw.

5. Turn power on. Set power capacity by holding down the On/Off button for
5 seconds to switch between 3.4KW and 2.4KW. If 3 lights blinking for 3
times, it is set to 2.4kw. If 4 lights blinking for 3 times, it is set to 3.4kw.
Once set turn off power once more.

CAUTION: Do not switch on power. This will be done during start up steps.
Connect Water
1. Notes
Arrows on the unit near the connections indicate cold water inlet ( ↑ ) and hot
water outlet ( ↓ ).
Use a PTFE based pipe sealant or tape to ensure leak free connections.
Do not sweat fittings or weld pipe to unit.
Isolation valves are recommended.
Hard connections or flexible braided tubing connections are bothacceptable.
However, flexible braided tubing is preferred.
CAUTION : DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN, MAY BREAK THE PIPE CONNECTION ATHEATING
ELEMENT.
2. This unit does not require a pressure relief valve. However if local codes require,
install the supplied pressure relief valve (C) .

3. Install the inlet water filter (D) in the cold water inlet. Install the filter such that it
is easily removable for inspection and cleaning.
4. Test water connections for leaks. Turn on water and purge water through the
water heater and system. Flow for 1 - 2 minutes. Ensure all air is eliminated.
Start Up
Open water inlet and outlet. Turn on water and let water flow through unit forone to
two minutes and double check to ensure there are no leaks. CAUTION: DO NOT
OPERATE UNIT DRY.
1. If no leaks are found, turn on the power to unit at breaker.
3. Turn on the water heater power switch located on the control panel on
the frontof the unit.
FOR REFERENCE: Temperature for bathroom sink is typically set to 98
o
F / 37
o
C and for
kitchen istypically set to 110
o
F / 43
o
C. Adjust temperature to meet your comfort needs.
However,temperature should not exceed 125oF / 52 oC due to possibility of
scalding.
4. Adjust water flow to a normal setting.
5. Set temperature to display Celsius or Farenheit.

6. Adjust the desired water temperature by pressing power level “UP” or
“DOWN”on the control panel. Increasing the power level will increase
the watertemperature. Decreasing the power setting will result in
cooler water. Note:incoming water supply temperature may change
seasonally. For optimal energysavings, an adjustment may be required in
the winter or in the summer. Thepower setting can be adjusted as
follows:

Operation
Power indicator light
Power level indicator lights. 4 lights are available
for power level 1 to 4 when unit is installed at
3.4kw. 3 lights are available for power level 1 to 3
when installed at 2.4kw.
UP and DOWN buttons for adjusting power levels
ON/OFF POWER button for turning heater on or off.
When heater is powered on, unit is on standby until
there is a hot waterdemand. Unit will heat water
whenever hot water faucet is turned on and
incoming water temperature is lower than 125
o
F. If
the heater will not be in use for a long time (such as
during vacation), this POWER button is recommended
to beturned off. Pressing ON/OFF button for 5
seconds, if 3 lights blinking for 3 times, it is set to
2.4kw. If 4 lights blinking for 3 times, it is set to
3.4kw. Wire accordingly for installation.

The heater supplies a constant amount of energy to heat the water based
on the power setting and power level selected. If water flow rate is
reduced, the water temperature will increase. If water flow is increased,
the temperature will decrease
Please allow hot water to run approximately 5-10 seconds for water
temperature to be regulated before hand contact
During colder seasons the ground water temperature will be lower. This
results in a lower hot water temperature. Press UP on front panel or
reduce water flow at faucet toincrease the power setting which will
result in warmer hot water
Do not block the discharge of the pressure relief valve (if installed)
This unit is designed with safety features to protect against scalding. The
following required information is provided to the consumer:

The unit is designed to withstand freezing temperatures during standby,
but the unit and piping must be thawed prior to operation. Attempting to
operate the unit while frozen will cause irreversible damage.
A flow rate of > 0.4 gpm is required to enable the unit. Continuous
operating at very low flows can result in damage to the heating
mechanism.
The hottest water temperature from the unit is 125oF (52oC). An internal
temperature switch automatically disables the heating if the temperature
exceeds 125oF (52oC)

Maintenance
Particles in the inlet water will be removed by the inlet filter (D) .This filter
should be inspected and cleaned on a regular basis. If the filter is clogged,
the unit canfunction improperly or it may even be damaged or destroyed.

Themanufacturerwarrantsthiswaterheaterand itscomponents to be freefromdefectsinmaterial
and workmanship accordingto the termsherein.
The heating mechanism within this product is warranted against manufacturer defects for the
lifetimeoftheproductupto15yearsforresidentialwaterheatingapplicationsorupto5yearsfor
commercialandindustrialapplications.Theremainingcomponentsoftheunitarewarranted against
manufacturer defects for a period of 12 months. The warranty is to the original owner of the
equipment at original installed location and is transferable only with original receipt showing date

of purchase. The warranty applies to heaters installed within theUS and Canada by licensed
professionals in accordance with the manufacturer’s installation and operating instructions and all
applicablecodes. The warranty covers parts for the repair or replacement of the defective portions
of the unit and labor for a period of 12 months for residential applicaitons. The effective date of
the warranty is the verified date of purchase (original receipt) or the date of manufacture plus
ninety days.
