When asurface unit is turnedon, coilsbeneath the
surfaceunit radiate heatthroughthe glass to the

maintainyoLlrselected control~etting.With poor
cookware, you wi~lsee frequentcycling of the unit
off and on. Good, flat cookwarewill minimize
the cycling.
Use only flat-bottomedcookware. Do not let pots boil
dry.Overheated metal can bond to glass cooktop. An
overheatedcopper pot will leave aresidue that will
ar]manently stain the glass.
~:~Ggaluminum cookwareacross the glass may.-, .’
cave metal marks. These metal marks will appear as
all scratches. They can be removed with Cook Top
aning Cremc and arazor scraper.
Even afterthe surface units are turned off, the glass
ceramic cooktopretains enough heat to continue
cooking.To avoid overcooking,remove pansfrom
the surfaceunits when the food is cooked. Avoid
placinganythingon the surface unituntil it has
cooled completely.
The Hot SurfaceLights will stay lit untilthe cooktop
is safe to touch. It is not unusualfor the lightsto stay
lit for 30 minutes.
Differences BetweenHalogenandRadiantunits

COOKWAW Tws
fol!owi~lgillforlllation will help you choose
ware which willgive good performance.
STainless Steel: highiy recommefzded
Especially good with asandwichclad bottom. The
sandwich bottom combinesthe benefits of stainless
steel (appearance,durability and stability)with the
advantagesof aluminum or copper(heat conduction,
even heat distribution).
Alun]inum:heavy ~veighrrecommended
Good conductivity.Aluminum residues sometimes
appear as scratcheson the cooktop, but can be
removed if cleaned immediately.Because of its
low meltingpoint, thin weight aluminum shouldnot
be used.
Porcelai~namel:
Good performance only with athick, flat, smooth
bottom. Avoidboiling dry, as porcelain can melt and
fuse to the surface.
Copper Bottom: heavy vveightrecomnzeizded
Good performance, but copper may leave residue
if pot is allowed to boildry.Overheatedmetalcan
bond to glass cooktops. If pot boils dry, leavinga
residue on the glass,clean immediately.
Glass-ceramic: Ltsable,butnot recommended
Poor performance.May scratch the surface.
Stoneware: usable,butrxotrecommetzded
Poor performance.May scratchthe surface.
Cast Iron: usable,but]zotrecommended
Poor performance.May scratch the surface.
HowtocheckPanPerformance
Use of correct cookware can affect the cooking
formance and cleaning of your cooktop.
correct cookware reduces the temperature of
ooktop surface and minimizesthe chance of
overs burning onto the cooktop.
must use pans with perfectly flat bottoms.
Some pans may have curved or rounded bottoms or
may be warped. If you are unsureof the fiatness of
your pans you may do this quick test.
Turn yoLIrpan upside
down on the countertop,
place :1ruler flat against I’))l!l Lti
the pan surface. The
bottomof the pan and the b~
straightedge of the ruler
shouldfit flLIshagainst each other all the way across.
Turn the ruler afull 360 degrees, checking for any
space between the ruIer and the bottom of the pan.
Pans with rounded, curved, ridged or warped bottoms
are not recommended.
Another simpletest to determineeven heat distribution
acrossthe cookwarebottomis to put one inchof water
in the pan. Bringthe waterto aboil and observethe
locationof bubblesasthe water startsto boil.
Good flat cookware willhave an even distributionof
bubblesover the bottomsurfacearea of thepan.
Bubbleslocalizedin only aportion of the bottom
indicateuneven contactof thepan to the surfaceunit,
uneven heat transferor an unsuitablepan.
Use pans that match the diameter of the surface
unit. Cookingperfollnance will notbe as good if
the cookware is either smalleror larger than the
surface unit.
