Child entrapment and suffocation are not problems
of the past. Junked or abandoned refrigerators are
still dangerous...even if they will sit for "just a few
days." If you are getting rid of your old refrigerator,
please follow the instluctions below to help prevent
accidents.
Before You Throw Away YourOld Refrigerator
or Freezen
ITake off the doors.
II Leave the shelves in place so that children may
not easily climb inside.
CFCDisposal
Your old refrigerator may have acooling system
that used CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons). CFCs are
believed to harm stratospheric ozone.
If you are throwing away your old refrigerator, make
sure the CFC refrigerant is removed for proper
disposal by a qualified servicer. If you intentionally
release this CFC refrigerant you can be subject to
fines and imprisonment under provisions of
environmental legislation.
USEOFEXTENSIONCORDS
Because ofpotentialsafetyhazardsunder certaincondi#ons,we strong/y recommend
against_e use ofanextension cord.
However, if you must use an extension cord, it is absolutely necessary that it be a UL-listed (in the United
States) or a CSA-listed (in Canada), B-wire grounding type appliance extension cord having a grounding
type plug and outlet and that the electrical rating of the cord be 15 amperes (minimum) and 190 volts.

The power cord of this appliance is equipped with
a 3-prong (grounding) plug which mates with a
standard 3-prong (grounding) wall outlet to
minimize the possibility of electric shock hazard
from this appliance.
Have the wall oudet and circuit checked by a
qualified electrician to make sure the outlet is
properly grounded.
If the outlet is a standard 2-prong ouder, it is your
personal responsibility and obligation to have it
replaced with a properly grounded 3-prong wall
outlet.
The refrigerator should always be plugged into its
own individual electrical outlet which has a voltage
rating that matches the radng plate.
This provides the best performance and also
prevents overloading house wiring circuits which
could cause a fire hazard from overheated wires.
Never unplug your refrigerator by pulling on the
power cord. Always grip plug firmly and pull
straight out from the oudet.
Repairor replace immediately all power cords that
have become hayed or otherwise damaged. Do not
use a cord that shows cracks or abrasion damage
along its length or at either end.
When moving the refrigeratoraway from the
wall,be careful not to roll over or damage the
power cord.
USEOFADAPTERPLUGS(Adapterplugsnotpermittedin Canada)
Because ofpotentialsafety hazardsunder certainconditions,we strongly recommendagainst
the useofan adapterplug.
However, ffyou must use an adapter, where local
codes permit, a temporaryconnectionmay be made
to a properly grounded 2-prong wail oudet byuse
of aUDlisted adapter available at most local
hardware stores.
The larger slot in the adapter must be aligned with
the larger slot in the wall outlet to provide proper
polarity in the connection of the power cord.
When disconnecting the power cord from the
adapter, always hold the adapter in place with one
hand while pulling the power cord plug with the
other hand. If this is not done, the adapter ground
terminal is very likely to break with repeated use.
If the adapter ground terminal breaks, DO NOTUSE
the refrigerator until a proper ground has been
established.

FREEZER FRESHFOOD
Initially, set the fresh food control at 5 and the freezer control at 5 and
allow 12 hours for the temperature to stabilize.
Several adjustments may be required. Adjust the controls one
increment at a time, and allow 12 hours after each adjustment for the
refrigerator to reach the temperature you set.
Setting the freezer control to Ostops cooling in both the fresh food
and freezer compartments but does not shut off electrical power to
the refrigerator.
Control settings will vary based on personal preferences, usage, and
operating conditions and may require more than one adjustment.

When to Replace the Filter on
Models With a Replacement
Indicator Light
There is a replacement indicator hght for
the water filter cartridge on the dispenser.
This light will turn orange to tell you that
you need to replace the filter soon
The filter carmdge should be replaced
when the replacement indicator hght turns
red or ff the flow of water to the dispenser
or tcemaker decreases

Installing the Filter Cartridge
O ffVou are replaong the carmdge, first
remove the old one by slowly turning It
to the left. Do nntpull down on the
cartridge. A small amount of water may
drip down
On models without a replacement
indicator light, apply the month and
),ear sacker to the new carmdge to
remind you to replace the filter in six
mont_
Fill the replacement carmdge with
water from the tap to allow for better
flow from the dispenser immediately
after installation.
Linmg up the arrow on the carmdge
and the carmdge holder, place the
top of the new cartridge up inside
the holder. 0o o0fpush it up Into
the holder.
Slowly turn it to the right until the filter
carmdge stops DONOT OVER71GHIEN.
As ypu turn the cartridge, it will
automaacafiy ruse itself mto posiaon.
Carmdge will rotate about 1/2 turn
Run water from the dispenser for 3
mmutes (about one and a half gallons)
to clear the system and prevent
sputtering
Press and hold the RESETWATERRLTER
pad (on some models) on the &spenser
for S seconds.
NOTE:A newly-installed water filter
cartridge may causewnterto spun'from
the dispenser.
Filter Bypass Plug
You must use the filter bypass plug
when a replacement filter carmdge LSnot
available. The dispenser and the icemaker
will not operate mthout the filter or filter
bypass plug.

out and then lift past the stop posmon.
Toreplace:
When replacing the drawer, make sure
mpush it firmly into place If it does not
go all the way back, remove it and rotate
the drive mechanism 1/4 turn. Then push
the drawer back agmn.
