•Avoidaccidentalstarting.Ensuretheswitchisintheoffpositionbeforepluggingin.
Carryingpowertoolswithyourngerontheswitchorplugginginpowertoolsthathavetheswitch
oninvitesaccidents.
•Removeanyadjustingkeysorwrenchesbeforeturningthepower
tool on. Awrenchorkeythatisleftattachedtoarotatingpartofthetoolmayresultinpersonal
injury.
•Donotoverreach.Maintainproperfootingandbalanceatalltimes.Lossofbalancecan

TOOL USE AND CARE
• Secure the work piece. Useclamporotherpracticalwaytoholdtheworkpiecetoa
stableplatform.Holdingtheworkpiecebyhandoragainstyourbodyisunstableandmayleadto
lossofcontrol.
•Donotforcethepowertool.Thetoolwillperformthejobbetterandsaferatthefeed
rateforwhichitisdesigned.Forcingthetoolcouldpossiblydamagethetoolandmayresultin
personalinjury.
•Usethecorrectpowertoolforthejob.Don’tforcethetoolorattachmenttodoa
jobforwhichitisnotdesigned.
•Donotuseatooliftheswitchdoesnotturnitonoroff.Anytoolthat

•Feedtheworkpieceinthecorrectdirectionandspeed.Feedthework
pieceintoablade,cutter,orabrasivesurfaceagainstthedirectionofthecuttingtool’sdirection
ofrotationonly.Incorrectlyfeedingtheworkpieceinthesamedirectionmaycausethework
piecetobethrownoutathighspeed.
•Neverleavethetoolrunningunattended,turnthepoweroff.Donot
leavethetooluntilitcomestoacompletestop.
•Neverstartthepowertoolwhenanyrotatingcomponentisin
contact with the work piece.
SERVICE
• Have Your Power Tool Serviced by a qualified repair person using
only identical replacement parts. Thiswillensurethatthesafetyofthepowertool
ismaintained.
•ServiceYourPowerToolperiodically.Whencleaningatool,becarefulnotto
disassembleanyportionofthetoolsinceinternalwiresmaybemisplacedorpinched.

EXTENSION CORDS
Grounded tools require a three wire extension cord.Doubleinsulatedtoolscan
useeitheratwoorthreewireextensioncord.Asthedistancefromthepowersupplyoutletincreases,
youmustuseaheaviergaugeextensioncord.Usingextensioncordswithinadequatelysizedwire
causesaseriousdropinvoltage,resultinginlossofpowerandpossibletooldamage.Refertothe
tableshownbelowtodeterminetherequiredminimumwiresize.
Thesmallerthegaugenumberofthewire,thegreaterthecapacityofthecord.Forexample:a
14-gaugecordcancarryahighercurrentthana16-gaugecord.Whenusingmorethanoneextension
cordtomakeupthetotallength,besureeachcordcontainsatleasttheminimumwiresizerequired.
Ifyouareusingoneextensioncordformorethanonetool,addthenameplateamperesandusethe
sumtodeterminetherequiredminimumwiresize.
Guidelines for Using Extension Cords
• Ifyouareusinganextensioncordoutdoors,besureitismarkedwiththesufx“W-A”(“W”in
Canada)toindicatethatitisacceptableforoutdooruse.
• Besureyourextensioncordisproperlywiredandingoodelectricalcondition.Alwaysreplacea
damagedextensioncordorhaveitrepairedbyaqualiedpersonbeforeusingit.
• Protectyourextensioncordsfromsharpobjects,excessiveheat,anddamporwetareas.

•Makesurethebenchgrinderisonarm,levelsurfaceandproperly
secured toavoidinjuryfromunexpectedmovement.Firmlyclamporboltthebenchgrinder
toasupportsurfacetopreventslippingorslidingduringtheoperation.
• Unplug the tool before making adjustments, repairs, maintenance
or storing.
•Alwaysswitchoffthetoolbeforeunpluggingittoavoidaccidentalstarting
whenrepluggingthetoolintoapowersource.
•Weareyeprotection.Donotweargloves,necktie,orlooseclothing.
•Donotoperatethebenchgrinderuntilitisassembledandinstalledaccordingto
thismanual’sinstructions.
•Alwaysmakesurethewheelguardsandeyeshieldsareinplace,properly

•Useonlyattachmentsratedfor3600RPMorhigherwitha1/2"arborhole
orappropriatesizedbushing.Neveruseanattachmentratedlowerthan3600RPMorattemptto
machineanundersizedwheeltotthearbor.
•Alwaysusethewheelangesfurnishedwiththistooltomountgrinding
wheelsonthegrindershafts.
•Donotovertightenthewheelnut.Excessivetighteningcancausethewheelto
crackpriortoorduringoperation.
•Inspectgrindingwheelsbeforestartingthemachineforvisibledefects
suchasssures,cracksorchips.Replacedamagedgrindingwheelsimmediately.
•Keepthesparkguardsclosetothewheelandreadjustthemasthe
wheel wears.
•Adjusttoolrestdistancefromthegrindingwheeltomaintainaseparation
of1/8"orlessasthewheeldiameterdecreasesfromuse.
•Donotuseagrindingwheelthatvibrateswhenused.Ifdressingthe
wheeldoesnotsolvethevibration,replaceit.Alsoinspectthemachineforothercausesof
vibrationsuchaswornbearingsorbentshaft.Repairorreplacebrokencomponentsimmediately
beforereusingthemachine.
•Donotusethemachineiftheswitchdoesnotturnitonandoff.Defectiveswitches
shouldbeimmediatelyreplacedbyanauthorizedservicecenterandthemachinenotusedunder
repairsarecompleted.
•Donotrapidlyturnthemachineonandoff.Thisactioncancausethewheelto
loosenandcreateapossiblehazard.

•Nevergrindonacoldwheel.Thegrindershouldalwaysbestartedandallowedto
runatidlespeedforonfullminutebeforeapplyingworktothegrindingwheel.
•Nevergrindonthesideofthewheel.Alwaysgrindonthefaceofthewheelonly.
•Neverapplycoolantdirectlytothegrindingwheel.Coolantmayweaken
thebondingstrengthofthewheelcausingittofail.Dipthehotworkpieceintowatertocoolit.
•Neverstartthegrinderwiththeworkpiecepressedagainstthegrindingwheelor
otherattachments(wirebrushes,bufngwheels,etc.)
•Alwayseasetheworkpieceagainstthewheelwhenstartingtogrind.Use
lightpressurewhenapplyingtheworkpiecetothegrindingwheel.Excessivepressurecan
causethewheeltocrackoroverloadthemotor.
•Avoidawkwardoperationsandhandpositionswhereanunexpectedor
suddenslipthatcouldcauseyourhandorngerstomoveintothegrindingwheel,wirebrush,
bufngwheel,etc.
•Alwayskeephandsandngersawayfromrotatingattachments.
•Alwaysholdtheworkpiecermlyagainstthetoolrest.Besurethetool
restissecurelytightenedinplacetopreventmovementduringuse.
•Donotgrindmagnesiumoraluminum,remayresult.
•Grindingcreateshazardoussparks,neveroperatethegrindernear
ammablegas,liquids,orinanexplosiveatmosphere.
•Dressthegrindingwheelfaceonly.Dressingthewheelsidescancauseitto
becometoothinforsafeuse.
•Ifanypartofthegrinderismissing,damagedorfailsinanyway,
orshouldanyelectricalcomponentfailtoperformproperly,shutofftheswitch.Removethe
machineplugfromthepowersourceandhavedamaged,missing,orfailedpartsreplaced

NOTE: Alwayschecktoensuretheeyeshieldsarecorrectlyattachedandthesparkguardsare

eachgrindingwheel.

FollowthestepstoattachtheSparkGuardandEyeShieldon
theLEFTsideofthegrinder.
1.InsertBracketLockingKnob(H)throughabiglockwasher
(M),abigatwasher(K),theeyeshieldbracket(B)andthe
LEFTsparkguard(C),thenscrewintotheholeintheleft
wheelguard.Tightensufcientlytoholdthesparkguard
andtheeyeshieldbracketinplace.(SeeFIG3)
2.Adjustthesparkguardtomakeitsloweredgeabout1/8"
(3.2mm)awayfromthegrindingwheelface.Rotatethe
wheelbyhandonerevolutiontoensurethewheelcanrotate
withoutcontactingwiththesparkguard.Firmlytightenthe
lockingknob(H)tosecurethesparkguardandeyeshield
bracketontothewheelguard.

Thetoolrestsarerequiredforeachhighspeedgrindingwheel
toassistinthegrindingoperation.
WARNING: Never use a bench grinder on
which tool rest has not been attached or where
the tool rest has not been correctly adjusted.
NOTE: Thereisaleftandarighttoolrest.Thetoolrestwith
v-groove(E)istheleftsidetoolrest(SeeFIG5).Whenproperly
mountedwiththeslottedportionofthetoolrestboltedushto
thetoolrestbracket,thetoolrestwillbepositioneddirectlyin
frontofthegrindingwheel.
1.HoldtheLEFTtoolrest(E)inthecorrectpositionagainstthetoolrestbracket(2)onleftwheel
guard(seeFIG6).
2.Inserttoolrestbolt(O)throughtoolrestbracket(2)andtoolrest(E),followedbyasmallatwasher
(J),asmalllockwasher(L),andthetoolrestlockingknob(I).
3.Tightenthelockingknob(I)sufcientlytosupportthetoolrestbutstillallowingthetoolresttoslide
inwardsandoutwards.

Mounting Bench Grinder
Ifduringoperationofthebenchgrinderthereisanytendencyforthegrindertoslideor"walk"orto
tipover,thenthegrindermustbesecuredtoaworkbenchorothersupportingsurfaceusingfasteners
(notsupplied)throughthetwoholesinthegrinderbase.
Beforemountingthegrindertoaworkbenchorsimilarsurface,determinetheidealmountingposition
byperformingaseriesofnon-poweredtestswithitemsthatwilltypicallybeusedonthegrinder(e.g.
lawnmowerblades,scissors,knives,woodchisels,woodturningtools,etc.)Thesetestsrunswillhelp
determinehowneartheworkbenchedgethegrindershouldbemountedsothatthebenchtopdoes
interferewithgrindingoperations.Besuretheworkbenchorpedestaltowhichthebenchgrinder
willbemountedisat,level,andsturdyenoughtobeartheweightofthegrinder,othertools,andthe
materialbeingworked.
Changing the Grinding Wheels (FIG 7)
WARNING: Useonlygrindingwheelsratedfor3,600rpmorhigherwith
a1/2"arborholeorappropriatesizedbushing.Neveruseagrindingwheel
ratedlowerthan3,600rpmorattempttomachineanundersizedwheeltot
the arbor.
1.Removethethreebolts(1)attachingtheprotectivesidecover(2)to
thegrinder;thenremovethesidecover.
2.Preventtheshaftfromrotatingbyplacingawedgebetweenthe
wheelandthetoolrest.
3.Facingthefrontofthebenchgrinder:toreplacethewheelon
theleftside,turnthearbornut(3)clockwisetoloosenand
counterclockwisetotightenthearbornut.
4.Toreplacethewheelontheright:turncounterclockwisetoloosen
andclockwisetotighten.
NOTE:Manygrindingwheelsuseremovableandadjustablearbor
bushingstoallowadaptationtovariousmachinearbordiameters.
Savethisbushingforfutureuseifnotneededtoinstallthe
replacementwheel.
5.Removethearbornut(3),outerange(4)andtheoldwheel.
6.Installthereplacementwheelandouterangeontheshaft.Make
surethewheelisslidet(notloose)ontheshaft.
7.Replacethearbornutandtighten.
8.Replacethesidecover.Reinsertthethreeboltsandtightentheside
coverinplace.
9.Re-adjusttoolrest,sparkguardandeyeshield.
10.Rotatethewheelbyhandtocheckfreemovementandproper
adjustments.
WARNING: Do not overtighten wheel nuts when installing grinding
wheels. Tighten the wheel nut enough to drive the wheel and prevent slippage.

OPERATION
IMPORTANT:Before each use of the bench grinder, inspect its general condition.
Check for loose screws, damaged electrical wiring, cracked, chipped, or damaged
wheels and misalignment or binding of the moving parts. If bench or pedestal
mounted, check that all fasteners are in place and tight.
CAUTION: Keep your bench grinder clean by removing dust from working parts,
the lower portion of the wheel guard assembly, and the work area surrounding the
grinder.
ON/OFF Switch (FIG 8)
TheSwitch(1)islocatedonthefrontofthegrinder.
To turn the grinder "ON",pushtherighthandportionof
theswitch,withthewhitedot,down.
To turn the grinder "OFF", pushthelefthandportionof
theswitchdown.
Work Light
Yourgrinderisequippedwithtwoexibleworklightsforbettervisibilityintheworkareaduring
operation.Whenthetoolisturnedon,thelightswillturnonautomaticallyandstayonuntilthetoolis
turnedoff.
WARNING: Always be sure that the tool is switched off and unplugged
from the power source before adjusting, adding accessories, or checking a
function on the tool
.

willyieldmoreaccuratework.
Dressing a Grinding Wheel
Whenthegrindingwheelisoutofbalance,wornoutofshape,ordull,loadedandglazed,itmustbe
truedanddressed.Truingordressingthewheelisbestdoneusinga"star-wheel"dresser,silicone
carbidesticktypedresseroradiamondfaceddressingtool(notsupplied).Dressthewheelbymoving
thedresserforwardonthetoolrestuntilitjusttouchesthehighpointonthefaceofthewheel,then
dressthewheelbymovingthedresserbackandforthacrossthewheelface.Repeatthisprocedure
untilthefaceofthegrindingwheeliscleanandthecornersofthewheelsaresquare.
BASIC GRINDER OPERATIONS
WARNING: Always wear safety goggles or safety glasses with side
shields during operation of any power tool. If the operation is dusty, wear
appropriate protective mask.

WARNING: Never sharpen or grind anything made of or containing
aluminum or magnesium.
Becausegrinderscanremovematerialrapidly,afreshlydressedwheelandtheamountofworkpiece
pressureappliedtothewheelarekeystoefcientgrinding.Usethefollowingbasicguidelinestoaid
inworkingmetalsandavoidoverheating:
• Neverforcetheworkpieceagainstthegrindingwheel.
• Alwayskeeptheworkpiececonstantlymovingagainstthegrindingwheelwithlightpressure
andevenmotion.
• Keeptheworkpiececoolbymaintainingacontainerofwaternearbyfordippingthework
piece.
• Alwaysusethefaceofthegrindingwheelwiththewheelmovingdownward,intotheobject
beingworked.
• Donotperformgrindingoperationsonthesideofthewheel.
Lawn Mower Blades
Asyoupreparetosharpenthelawnmowerblade,ensurethereisadequateworkingspaceto
maneuvertheblade.Lawnmowerbladesaregenerallysharpenedonthebeveledsideandthen
dressedupslightlyontheothersidewiththegrinderorle.
Firstremoveanynicksthatmaybepresentonthecuttingedgebyrestingthebladeatonthetool
rest,movingthebladesidetosideuntiltheedgeisnickfree.Tosharpenthebevel,eitheradjustthe
toolrestangletomatchtheblade’sbevelangleorholdthebladeatthebevelanglewhilerestinga
portionofthebladeonthetoolrestforaddedstability.Usealighttouch,removingaslittlemetalas
possibletoattainthedesirededge;thenlightlydress-uptheatbacksideoftheblade.Ideally,lawn
mowerbladesshouldnotbehonedtorazorlikesharpness;thisincreasesthelikelihoodofnickingand
promotesrapiddulling.Usealeorthebenchgrindertolightlyfacethecuttingedge.
Afterthebladehasbeensharpened,besuretochecktheblade’sbalancewithanappropriateshop
madejigorcommerciallyavailableunit.Balancethebladebyprogressivelyremovingmetaluntil
balanceisattained.
WARNING:An unbalanced lawn mower blade may cause excessive
vibration, causing damage to the mower and engine shaft.
Sharpening Twist Drill Bits:
Sharpeningtwistdrillscanbeatrickyoperationthatevensomeexperiencedmechanicsnevermaster.
Sharpeningtwistbitsfreehandwillrequireconsiderablepracticeanddryrunswiththegrinder
"OFF"toacquiretheskillofrotatingthebitwhilemaintainingtheoriginalcuttingedgeangle.Ifyou
anticipatesharpeningnumerousbitsconsiderpurchasingaspecializedsharpeningjig,availableat
mosthardwareandhomecenters.Atypicaltechniqueforsharpeningatwistdrillbitisasfollows:
1.Setthegroovedtoolresthorizontaltothefaceofthegrindingwheel.
2.Holdthedrillshankbetweenthethumbandindexnger,restingthebackoftheindexngeronthe
toolrest.
3.Besurethatthecuttinglipisstraightacrossthefaceofthewheelbeforebeginningeachstroke
4.Whenthedrillcontactsthewheel,pushthedrillshankdownwardandtotheleftataslightangle.At
thesametime,rotatethedrillsotheotherlipisjustvisible.
5.Repeatthisprocessontheotherliptosharpentheentiretwistdrill.

1.Thechiselcuttingedgemustbefreeofnicksandbe90°tothechiseledge.Withthetoolrestat,
lightlydressthecuttingedgeifnicksarepresentorit’soutofsquare.
2.Adjustthetoolrestangleto25-30degreestothefaceofthegrindingwheel.Restthechiselon
theangledtoolrestandmoveitlaterallyacrossthefaceofthewheel.
3.Besuretooccasionallycoolthetoolinwatertomaintainitshardness.
4.Continuegrindingthecuttingedgeandbeveluntilthelengthofthebevelisroughlytwicethe
thicknessofthechisel.Removeonlythematerialnecessarytoachievethedesiredbevelangle
withasharpandsquarecuttingedge.
5.Thisprocessproducesasharphollowgroundbevelwithasmallamountof"wire"burrwhichwill
beremovedbynalhoningonawhetstone.

Refurbishing Screwdriver Tips:
Screwdrivertipsoftengetwornorbentoutofshapeandmustbereshapedbygrindingtoperform
properly.
1.Selectaat-headscrewwithaslotthesamewidthasthescrewdriverbladetip.
2.Grindscrewdrivertipsquareandremoveallgaps,nicks,andtwistsinthescrewdriverblade.
Applyonlylightpressuretothebladewhilemovingitbackandforthacrossthegrindingwheel
face.
3.Turnthescrewdriverfrequentlytokeepbothsidesparallel.
4.Ifgroundcorrectly,thetipshouldtcompletelyintothescrewslotwithnovisiblegaps.

CLEANING
Avoidusingsolventswhencleaningplasticparts.Mostplasticsaresusceptibletodamagefrom
varioustypesofcommercialsolventsandmaybedamagedbytheiruse.Usecleanclothstoremove
dirt,dust,oil,grease,etc.
