IMPORTANT PRODUCT SAFETY
Please review these important safety warnings, cautions and notes in order to assure safe and
effective use of your generator in wet weather.
WARNING
Always shut generator off before any fueling or maintenance procedures.
WARNING
Never position the refueling door on the same side of the generator as the exhaust muffler. Spilled
gasoline can result in fire.
WARNING
Never block or cover the generator exhaust muffler in any way. GenTent canopy must be installed
above generator exhaust muffler. Install GenTent electrical skirts such that they cannot block
exhaust in any way. Keep the GenTent canopy at least 6 inches away from direct contact with the
exhaust.
WARNING
Always install included washer between the knob and the clamp base AND between the bolt head
and clamp base. Tightening the knob without using the washer VOIDS the WARRANTY as it risks
breakage.
CAUTION
Over tightening clamps should be avoided. Two turns after the knob seats to the washer/clamp is enough. If
you notice the mouth of the clamp pulling aware from the frame, the clamping strength has been reduced and
the knob should be loosened.
CAUTION
Always grasp fiberglass rods firmly during installation to avoid the whipping motion that can occur when a bent
fiberglass rod is mistakenly released.
CAUTION
Avoid using your portable generator in hurricane force winds above 70mph.
NOTE
Should generator handle cause significant stretching of the elastic straps when extended; it is
advisable to release the elastics straps on the handle side of the generator before extending
generator handles.
NOTE
Should GenTent cover block pull starter, it is advisable to release the elastic straps on the pull
starter side and temporarily move GenTent canopy out of the way.
NOTE
When using GenTent during snow storms, it is recommended to periodically brush away any
accumulation that blocks the top vent.

Installation Overview
The GenTent installs in three easy steps***:
Clamp it: Install 4 clamps and set the telescoping rod length.
Frame it: Install frame rod to the center connector, then into the correct hole in the
telescoping rod and repeat.
Cover it: Slide the GenTent canopy over the frame and secure by sliding the elastic
straps over and behind the clamp telescoping rod.
Once the GenTent is installed, it can be left in place during generator storage or easily
removed and stored separately. Should you wish to store the generator with the
GenTent attached, we recommend releasing the elastic straps in order to keep them
fresh and ready.
***Note: In some cases adaptation of the portable generator frame is required to
create a proper mounting point for the GenTent clamps. Should your kit be a One Corner
(page 13) or Four Corner (page 15) bundle, please follow the instructions for installation
of the frame extender(s) or frame adapter(s) prior to installing the GenTent. Frame
adaptation is required when:
One Corner needs to be adapted because:
-A muffler heat shield or other panel is connected to a frame member that
otherwise blocks the GenTent clamp from attaching directly to the proper
location.
Four Corners need to be adapted because:
-The portable generator uses a square tubular frame that must be adapted to
the round openings of the GenTent clamps.
-The portable generator is a very small frame and requires length and width
extension (see Clamp Adjustment tables on page 8 and 9)
Special Frame Configurations Exist:
-Special cases are when the frame does not provide 4 cornered mounting points
such as:
Note: In any of these special cases a special frame kit is included in the
respective special product bundle (or will need to be ordered separately)
oRidgid RD series generators (except certain 5700W models) which do
not have vertical frame members at the front of the generator
oHonda EU6500is generator which do not have vertical frame
members at the rear of the generator
oGenerac GP15000/GP17500 where the fixed handles block the
canopy
oCertain other odd shaped frames such as the Briggs 01894 and Troy-
Bilt 01925

Install GenTent Clamps on Generator Frame
1) Determine whether the Rubber Sleeves are required
Your GenTent Clamp kit includes 4 rubber sleeve adapters meant for
use on frame diameters up to 1.25”. Please see the following matrix:
A (1 inch)
B (1.25 inches)
C (1.5 inches)
Use?
Yes
Yes
No
If you do not know the diameter of your frame tubes, simply cut out
the Frame Diameter tool (bottom of page) and wrap it around the
frame tube from right to left. Simply match the closest letter and
follow the recommendation above.
2) Assemble Clamp parts
Note: It is very important that washers always be used between
the knob and clamp body as well as between the bolt and the
clamp body.
- Slide telescoping rods into clamp bodies.
- Install set pins through clamp bodies and telescoping rods
- Install washer on bolt and bolt through one end and into clamp
- Loosely install washer and self-locking knob onto carriage bolt
3) Install Clamp on Generator Frame (or Frame Adapter)
- The top edge of the first clamp should be installed below the electrical panel on your generator at
the lower of these two measurements:
(1) 9” below where the gas tank meets the frame, or
(2) Directly below the electrical panel
Note: The goal is for the bottom of the main canopy to be at or slightly below where the tank
connects to the frame; this way water can’t get on the tank and trickle toward the outlets.
Further, the top of the clamp should be located under the bottom of the lowest electrical outlet --
the electrical protection skirt will cover at least to the top of the clamp.

Page: 8 of 20

- For frames up to 1.25”: slide rubber sleeve over frame member. Preferably position
the rubber sleeve opening to face outward toward clamp opening (fig. 3-A). (The rubber
sleeve opening can face away from the clamp opening if this is not possible).
- Push clamp opening straight onto frame opening (fig. 3-A). The clamp will pop over
the frame. If rubber sleeve used, slide clamp up and over (fig. 3-B). Do not over extend
the mouth of the clamp!
- Position clamp diagonally from sides of the generator frame (fig. 3-C);
- Tighten knob, centered on washer until clamp is firmly in place. This usually requires
only 2 full turns once the knob/washer seat to the clamp body. Note that clamp
strength is reduced by over-tightening as the clamp mouth pulls away from the frame.
In this case, slightly release the tension on the knob.
Tip: For 1.5” frames, apply electrical tape to the frame where the clamp will connect
for added grip
- Repeat procedure on remaining three sides; position clamps at generally the same
height.

4) Set Rod Adjustment Pin
- Reference Appropriate Easy Adjustment Guide (previous page) for GenTent 10k or
GenTent 20k
- Measure length and width of generator frame to the outside of the frame members
- Find corresponding pin setting number in Easy Adjustment Guide
- Set the telescoping rod location (Fig. 4-A and 4-B) based on the setting number from
the Easy Adjustment Guide and install ring pin to secure
Fig. 4-A Fig. 4-B
Settings Notes:
(a) Rod location for setting 0 and 1 are the same (Fig. 4-A). Use the inside frame
rod hole for setting 0 and the outside frame rod hole for settings 1-4.
(b) 4* indicates that we recommend the use of a Four Corner frame extension
kit. It is best to try the fit first and as long as the GenTent canopy is not
overly loose, it is at your option whether to use extend the frame.
(c) GTX/U indicates that the use of a Four corner frame extension kit is required.
The GenTent will be too loose on the frame otherwise.

Select and Install Electrical Skirt
-If your electrical outlets are on the short side of the generator, select
the short electrical skirt; otherwise select the long electrical skirt.
Only use one skirt!
-Flip the canopy overflap up from corner to corner on the side that is
over the electrical outlets (fig. 6-C).
-The left and ride sides of the electrical skirt are angled upward slightly
as compared to the main body of the skirt. The angle starts about 6
inches from either side and this corresponds to the respective corner
of the GenTent. Press either corner on first (fig. 6-C), then wrap the 6
inch section onto the adjacent side of the electrical panel and press
firmly. Now press the main skirt body over the electrical panel to the
other corner, and then wrap that edge around the adjacent side and
press firmly in place.
-Flip the overflap down and over the electrical skirt (fig. 6-D).
Fig. 6-C Fig. 6-D
Note: The intent of the electrical skirt is to cover the
electrical outlets in the front and about 6” around the
adjacent sides. Do not cover other parts of your generator
with the electrical skirts, especially the exhaust area!

Install the One Corner Kit (optional – where needed)
Your particular portable generator model may have a muffler heat shield or
other panel connected to one of the frame members in a way that the GenTent
clamp is blocked from directly connecting to the frame on one corner of your
portable generator. We also recommend using this kit in other special
circumstances such as certain portable generators whose exhaust blows
directly onto the frame at the height which the GenTent clamp should be
installed.
In the case that your portable generator is in this category, there will be a GTX
Frame Extender kit in your package. The GTX Frame Extender kit includes:
1 – GTX Frame Extender Tube: This is a black
anodized aluminum tube machined to 3” with
two screw holes (small) and two access holes
(large)
2 - #10 Sheet metal screws
Note: You will need a 9/16” drill bit
The GTX installs in these easy steps:
Locate and mark: where the GTX will be
installed.
Drill: Two holes for mounting the GTX.
Mount: Screw the GTX in place
Once the GTX is installed, follow the main GenTent installation instructions
from page 6.
Locate the GTX on the generator frame:
- The top edge of the GTX should be installed on the lower spot on the frame between
these two measurements
(a) 9” below where the gas tank meets the frame, or
(b) 1/2” above the bottom of the lowest electrical outlet on the electrical panel
The goal is for the bottom of the main canopy to be at or slightly below where the tank
connects to the frame; this way water can’t get on the tank and trickle toward the
outlets. Further, the top of the clamp should be located under the bottom of the lowest
electrical outlet -- the electrical protection skirt will cover down to the top of the clamp.

Fig. 7-B Fig. 7-C Fig. 7-D
Mark the GTX screw location on the generator frame:
- Position GTX against the frame member at the outer most corner (the point furthest
away from either side of the generator) (Fig. 7-D).
- Using the 9/64” drill bit, scratch a marker through the screw holes on the GTX (top and
bottom)
Drill and Mount GTX:
- Drill two pilot holes, using the 9/64” drill bit, at the locations previously
scratched/marked (Fig. 7-B)
- Using 5/16” nut driver, or flat blade screwdriver (nut driver recommended), screw GTX
to frame (Fig. 7-C)
Note: GenTent Clamp Installation Tip
- Install a GenTent rubber adapter onto the GTX before installing the GenTent clamp
(Fig. 7-E)
- Set the GenTent clamp rod one position less than the other clamps directly to the
generator frame (for example, if your normal clamp pin setting is 2, set the clamp pin
on the GTX side to 1)
- See page 9 for clamp pin setting adjustment guide

Install the Four Corner Kit (optional – where needed)
Your particular portable generator model may have a square tubular frame, be very
small and require some lengthening and/or widening, or have a muffler heat shield or
other panel connected to one of the frame members that blocks the GenTent clamp
from directly connecting to the frame on one corner.
In the case that your portable generator is in this category, or if you purchased one of
our universal fit GenTent bundles, there will be a GTU Frame Adapter kit in your
package. The GTU Frame Adapter kit includes:
4 – GTU adapter – this is a black molded part
that incorporates a squared angle with a
round mounting area.
8 – #12 Sheet metal screws
Note: You will need a 5/32” drill bit
The GTU installs in these easy steps:
Locate and mark: where the first GTU will be installed.
Drill: Two holes for mounting the GTU.
Mount: Screw the GTU in place
Repeat for Remaining Three GTUs
Once the GTUs are installed, follow the main GenTent installation instructions from
page 6.
Locate the GTU on the generator frame:
- The top screw hole of the GTU should be located on the lower spot on the frame
between these two measurements
(a) 9” below where the gas tank meets the frame
(b) 1/2” above the bottom of the lowest electrical outlet on the electrical panel
The goal is for the bottom of the main canopy to be at or slightly below where the tank
connects to the frame; this way water can’t get on the tank and trickle toward the
outlets. Further, the top of the clamp should be located under the bottom of the lowest
electrical outlet -- the electrical protection skirt will cover down to the top of the clamp.

Fig. 8-A Fig. 8-B Fig. 8-C Fig. 8-D
Mark the GTU screw location on the generator frame:
- Position GTU against the frame member at the outside corner at the measured
location (Fig. 8-A and 8-D).
- Using the 5/32” drill bit or sheet metal screw, scratch a mark on the generator frame
through the screw holes on the GTU (top and bottom).
Note: drill one screw hole on the right side of the GTU and the other on the left side.
Select top left/bottom right or top right/bottom left based on which gives the most
clearance for the drill and screw operations.
Drill and Mount GTU:
- Drill two pilot holes, using the 5/32” drill bit, at the locations previously
scratched/marked (Fig. A)
- Using 5/16” nut driver, or flat blade screwdriver (nut driver recommended), screw GTU
to frame (Fig. B)
GenTent Clamp Installation notes:
- Install a GenTent rubber adapter onto the GTU before installing the GenTent clamp
(Fig. D)
- Set the GenTent clamp rod one step in versus other clamps that are attached directly
to the generator frame (for example, if your normal clamp pin setting is 2, set the
clamp pin on the GTU side to 1)

Important GenTent Usage Tips
Electrical Skirt Tips – Clear Vinyl (Optional)
The optional clear vinyl skirts for the GenTent 10k and the GenTent 20k electrical skirts
can be stacked together for double height (Fig. 9-A) by connecting the top of one skirt to
the bottom of the other skirt. Use this as needed for the skirts to completely cover the
electrical outlets
Note: The intent of the electrical skirt is to cover the electrical outlets in the front and
about 6” around the adjacent sides. Do not cover other parts of your generator with
the electrical skirts, especially the exhaust area!
-The left and ride sides of the electrical skirt
are angled upward slightly as compared to
the main body of the skirt. The angle starts
about 6 inches from either side and this
corresponds to the respective corner of the
GenTent. Press either corner on first (fig. 6-
C), then wrap the 6 inch section onto the
adjacent side of the electrical panel and press
firmly. Now press the main skirt body over
the electrical panel to the other corner, and
then wrap that edge around the adjacent side
and press firmly in place. Fig. 9-A
Proper Door Sealing Tip
-GenTent now ships with the StormBracer™ door. This door wraps around the
adjacent sides of the GenTent much like the skirts, forming a brace against
storms. Each time you close the door, it must be pressed firmly back in place.
If this is not done, holes may exist between the pieces of Velcro® which can
allow water to seep in.
-In practice, the best way to achieve this is to close the door, then follow this
procedure:
oAlign the door properly so that the side Velcro and lower Velcro are
aligned as closely as possible and are touching
oThen starting at the top corner of the door pinch canopy around the
frame rods and slide your hand to the bottom while pinching.
oRepeat on the other side

& slide technique above to secure the sides. The bottom edge should cover the
