Introduction
The Infinity series of inkjet plotters provide continuous throughput on
constantly moving paper rolls. The Infinity is the most affordable plotter
of its kind.
The Infinity is ideal for plotting in an ultra wide format, yet small enough
to fit into any design or pattern making area. This compact upright
plotter is quiet, easy to install, uses minimal floor space and can be
conveniently set against a wall.
This getting started manual provides information that will quickly get you
familiar with the Infinity plotter. For more extensive information on the
plotter, open the Infinity User Interface on your workstation, click on the
HELP pull down menu, and then select Infinity Help.
Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment

Warnings and Cautions
This Gerber manual contains Warnings and Cautions that precede
steps or procedures. Always follow these precautions to avoid injury
or equipment damage.
Warnings are put before a procedure that could result in personal
injury, death, or equipment damage.
Cautions are put before procedures that could result in equipment
damage.
Dangerous Procedures
Always follow warnings and cautions. Follow all other safety
instructions that are necessary for safe operation of the

English
Moving Machinery
Keep hands away from moving machine parts to prevent
personal injury. Make sure no one else is near the machine
during operation.
Do not refill ink cartridges
Refilling processes and the use of incompatible inks may
disrupt the printing system, potentially resulting in damage to
the printing device, reduced print quality, and user
dissatisfaction. Order approved ink cartridges from Gerber
Technology. Refer to Consumables in the manual Appendix.
Ink Hazards
Ink used in the Bulk System (Infinity 85) may cause the
following health issues.
•Contact with skin or eyes may result in irritation.
•Inhalation may cause drowsiness or dizziness.
•Ingestion may result in nausea, vomiting, and
diarrhea.
Safe Removal of Bulk Ink Cartridge
De-energize the bulk ink system by pushing the Access
Pens button on the Infinity control panel (to move the head
off the parking position) before removing the bulk ink
cartridge (Infinity 85). Failure to comply could result in the
accidental discharge of ink from the bulk ink cartridge.

Operating the Infinity GERBERplotter
Basic Concepts
The Infinity is an easy to use, wide format, inkjet plotter that provides
features such as constant throughput, high reliability, accuracy, and
low operational costs. It is compatible with all GERBER and most
other CAD systems and it offers a Windows based graphical
interface for intuitive control and status messaging.
The quality and performance of the Infinity plotter is dependent on
three things: the inkjet cartridges themselves, how well the plotter is
calibrated, and the alignment of the paper path. Using genuine HP
inkjet cartridges is the best means of ensuring consistent print
quality. If the inkjet cartridge (Infinity 45), or a print head cartridge or
bulk ink cartridge (Infinity 85) is low on ink or has been damaged,
the print quality may suffer.
The output quality of the Infinity plotter is also dependent on how
well it is calibrated. The Infinity plotter comes with two main
procedures for calibration: Inkjet Cartridge Alignment and Plot
Length calibration. The Inkjet Cartridge Alignment compensates for
slight mechanical differences in cartridges and the Plot Length
calibration makes sure that paper is accurately being pulled through
the plotter. These two calibrations should be performed anytime
something on the plotter changes, e.g., new cartridges are installed,
new paper is loaded, or the plotter is moved.
How well the paper flows through the system has an affect both on
the quality of the plot and the consistency of the resulting take-up
roll. Leveling the Infinity plotter is an important aspect of how well
the paper moves through the plotter. If the plotter is not level, the
paper will not feed evenly onto the platen surface and will not wind
consistently onto the paper take-up core. Anytime the plotter is
moved, it should be leveled following the procedure in this manual.
Adherence to GERBER recommendations for preventive
maintenance makes sure that optimum mechanical performance of
your Infinity series plotter is achieved.

1 – Front Cover
The front cover provides access to change inkjet cartridges and to
load paper. The front cover must be in the down position for the
Infinity to plot.
2 – Drive Roll
The drive roll moves at a constant speed and “pulls” the paper
through the plotter.

3 – Paper Supply Mandrel
The paper supply mandrel holds the roll of paper that will be used to
plot on. The paper supply mandrel is adjustable so that different
widths of paper may be used.
4 – Paper Take-up Mandrel
After a plot is complete, the Infinity plotter can either drop the plot
onto the floor or wind it up onto an unused paper core. The paper
take-up mandrel is driven by a motor and is used to wind the
completed plot onto the paper core.
5 – Bulk Ink Cartridge
This pressurized cartridge holds the ink for the Infinity 85 plotter.
Access Pens must be pushed before removing the bulk ink
cartridge. Failure to comply could result in the discharge of ink from
the pressurized bulk ink cartridge.
6 – Control Panel
The control panel is used to provide direct control over the Infinity 45
and the Infinity 85 plotters.
