Powering Up
Check to make sure the AC Adaptor has an output of DC12V, 3A for 817-0700
(Mini), 817-0701 (Small), and 817-0702 (Medium). Output of DC12V, 5A for
817-0703 (Large) and its plug has a center-minus polarity configuration.
Make sure that the On/Off Switch of the Light Box is in the “Off” position and
then plug in the AC Adaptor.
Flip the On/Off Switch to the “On” position to turn on the Light Box.
IMPORTANT: Allow the lamps a couple of minutes to warm up to provide
consistent exposure and color results. The Light Box is now ready for use.
Shooting Positions
Shooting from the Top
(a) Remove the Top Opening Cover. The Reflective Front Door should be
closed to avoid unnecessary loss of light.
(b) Camera Mounting – Mount the camera to the Up-Down Adjustment Knob.
(c) Position Adjustment – As the names imply, the Up-Down Adjustment
Knob, Left-Right Adjustment Knob and Rear-Front Adjustment Knob are
for making position adjustments in the respective directions. To adjust
position, simply loosen up the knob, slide the camera to the desired
position and tighten the knob to lock the camera in place
Note: Camera Mounting Bracket. The short bracket will hold most standard
cameras. The long extended bracket will hold Single Lens Reflex (SLR) or
larger cameras.
Shooting from the Front
(a) Remove the Reflector Front Door by lifting it off the rail.
(b) Place the Top Cover in position to provide consistent lighting effects.
(c) The Light Box provides enough light to allow the camera or phone to be
hand-helded when shooting from the front or the top. If using an older
camera it might be necessary to use a tripod to hold the camera steady.
Light Intensity Adjustment
The Light Box is equipped with four separate light panels. The intensity of all
of these can be adjusted independently of each other. Each panel is provided
with an adjustment knob on the front of the Light Box for making lighting
adjustments. The four light panels are as follows:
1. Back light Panel – see E in diagram on page 2
2. Floor/Base light Panel – see F in diagram on page 2
3. Front Light Panel – see G in diagram on page 2
4. LED Light Switch – see C in diagram on page 2
By changing the combination of intensities of the light panels, various lighting
effects ranging from virtual shadow-free to dramatic shadowed images can be
achieved.

External Accent Lighting (Using Light Wands)
Included are three different color LED light wands; white, blue, and green. This
auxiliary lighting can highlight the color and facets of precious stones. Hold
directly in the box and close to the stone. Crop out the wand using the camera
zoom or afterward in the camera editing mode or by using photo editing
software such as Photoshop
Holding the Light Wand close to jewelry.
Propping Up Jewelry
In order to shoot subjects in various positions try using Gesswein Positioning
Wax (Item# 817-0758), clear tape, or fishing line. Use Positioning Wax or
tape to position the jewelry to the floor or back of the lightbox. Fishing line
may be used to hang jewelry from top opening; to keep it steady allow the
piece to touch the floor. If done carefully these props will not show.
Camera Settings
To achieve better photographic results, the use of cameras with “White
Balance” and “Manual Exposure” features is recommended.
On cameras that allow you to set the white light balance, enter 5000k for the
color temperature or follow camera instructions for setting white light balance.
Color adjustments can also be made afterward using the camera editing mode
or by using software such as Photoshop.
